Editorial Review
The Lonely Doll Makes New Friends continues Dare Wright’s classic series that began with publication of The Lonely Doll® in 1957. The new authors, Brook Ashley, Brett Wilbur and John Ogilvie, have photographed this latest Lonely Doll book in vibrant color. Edith and the Bears are the originals that Dare Wright used in her books. Edith’s friends are Lenci dolls from the 1920s and 30s. Edith is a doll who lives with her companions, Mr. Bear and Little Bear. Rejecting Little Bear’s offer to play baseball with her, Edith begs Mr. Bear to send her to a summer camp where she can learn how to become a refined young lady. Mr. Bear reluctantly agrees to let her go, but reminds Edith that it’s her behavior and being true to herself that will make her special, not what she wears or how hard she tries to impress the other girls. Edith learns the wisdom of Mr. Bear’s words, but only after a series of misadventures that bring her a new appreciation for Little Bear and the realization of what it really takes to make true friends.

Sweet little book! 2007-05-21
I liked this book because it was styled like Dare Wright had done her Lonely Doll books. Edith, Mr. Bear and Little Bear are back to their adventures. The real Edith doll and bears from the Dare Wright books were used in the photos. The way the storyline went was similar to how Dare Wright created her books. I loved the color photos in this new book. In the original Dare Wright books, the photos where in black and white. Edith and the bears got a really nice update with color photos. It was a very good idea to bring Edith, Mr. Bear, and Little Bear out of retirement. Not only do older Lonely Doll fans get to see Edith and the Bears again but Edith and Bears get a whole new generation of friends in color as well. We all need to learn how to be good friends even when we meet new friends along the way!

Thank you Brook Ashley 2007-02-24
As the only heir to the Dare Wright Lenci dolls and Bears, and a true life long friend of Dare Wright, Brook Ashley has the special insight needed to create such a charming and heartfelt book for today's children.
This colorful book teaches many lessons todays children need. The lessons of being yourself and not relying on what is on the outside to win friends are not only relevant to children but adults, as well. It teaches lesson's about trusting adults and getting along with others, such as an exuberant little bear.
I am reminded of the same lessons taught by Mr. Rogers and Big Bird. Brook Ashley is in this league! Well done.
Thank you Brook.

Wecome back Edith! 2007-02-12
Loved the ability to have NEW stories about Edith & Little Bear.(Not just for children to love)
Wish it was in Blk & Wht though....like the first books.
The charm of seeing those wonderfully composed photos from Dare Write.
Wish they would re release the full series of books, so this new generation can enjoy!

I agree. 2006-10-10
Wow. Too bad, indeed. Please do check out the real Dare Wright books. They're brilliant.

A Fine Addition to the Lonely Doll Series 2006-06-19
The Lonely Doll Makes New Friends is a new book in the beloved series of childrens books from the 1950s by the late Dare Wright. The author,Brook Ashley, whose relationship to Dare was like a daughter, has lovingly created a new story, in the spirit of the old, using the original bears and Lenci doll from the 1950s. The main difference is that this new book has been photographed in beautiful color. There are many photographs of Edith, the two bears, and two other Lenci dolls, Edith's new girlfriends. In my opinion, this book would appeal both to a child and an adult Lonely Doll collector.

Hooray! They're back! 2006-05-24

WONDERFUL BOOK & UTTERLY ENCHANTING EDITH BOOK 2006-05-17
ALL OF THE EDITH BOOKS WRITTEN BY DARE WRIGHT WERE WONDERFUL BOOKS, THAT AS A CHILD I FOUND SO FACINATING. THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE AMAZING, AND YOU CAN TELL HOW MUCH EFFORT WAS PUT INTO IT. THE FOLLOW UP WRITTEN BY BROOKE ASHLEY IS SUCH A GREAT ADDITION TO THE COLLECTION. IT IS SUCH A CHARMING TALE OF A LONELY DOLL WHO FINALLY FINDS SOME FRIENDS, OTHER THAN HER EVER PRESENT BEAR COMPANIONS. EDITH IS AN EXTRORDINARY DOLL, AND TO SEE HER IN FULL COLOR IS SUCH A TREAT. THE BOOK IS WELL WRITTEN, AND THE PICTURES ARE VIBRANT. THERE ARE SO MANY SMALL DETAILS ATTENDED TO IN THE POSING OF THESE DOLLS AND BEARS, AND THE STORY LINE INCLUDES LIFE LESSONS AND GOOD MORALS. THIS IS GREAT BOOK FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS OF ALL AGES. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. THE STORY LEAVES YOU WAITING FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER IN EDITHS STORYBOOK LIFE.

A charming story that continues Edith's endearing adventures 2006-05-12
Three generations of my family have read and absolutely love this book! In this adventure, Edith expresses questions and concerns that many young girls have today. Little Bear and Mr Bear along with afew new friends, help Edith to understand that friends like you for who you are and not for what you wear or how you look-- and that just being yourself, is most important. The photographs in this book are as charming and realistic as those in the original Lonely Doll books. Brook Ashley has done a beautiful job continuing Edith's story. We all hope that Edith's adventures continue and look forward to future Lonely Doll books. My family would highly recommend this book--especially to families with young girls!

What a sham. 2006-05-11
Sorry to see this, because Dare Wright's book are so exquisite. This is some really insensitive exploitation with no flavor of the books to which it refers...I will treasure my entire collection of the real thing.
