A Necessary Resource for Anyone Preparing to Teach in a Behavior Classroom
2008-05-01
I worked for years in a special education environment, and I found this book to be a refreshing, straightforward look at the reality of working with students in this type of classroom. For once you don't have a "teacher" urging you to encourage your students to reach the same goals as mainstream students. Instead, it focuses on giving these students precisely what they need-a classroom geared toward their personal needs that will give them the best chance of success. Whether you have worked with children for years or are preparing to step into your first classroom, this book is a must-read.
Awesome

I ordered this book for my sister in law who has a son who fits the description that Don Rainwater speaks of. I ended up glancing through it before I gave it to her and finished it. It was amazing and I will definately refer back to it as I am pursuing my masters of science in counseling adolescents and adults. I think it will be really helpful later on. It was a great read for sure.
Terrific resource book

While I am not a teacher and my children are now adults I found this book to be an enlightening and interesting read.
I think it will be a wonderful resource for teachers and parents alike. I enjoyed the Author's empathic and candid approach and found the tips contained within the pages to be practical and logical.
I'd recommend this book to anyone dealing with behavior issues in children, teacher or parent.
So Glad I Found This

I am so glad I found this book! I tutor a young, behavior student and even though I observe in the classroom I really haven't had much formal training to help tutor while dealing with behavioral issues.
Just reading this book helped me with so many things I and my student have been struggling with the last few weeks. I'm excited for future sessions and I can't wait to try out some of the things I read today.
I highly recommend this book for anyone in the classroom with any student, there is a lesson in here for everyone. And even though I only tutor a single student at a time and not an entire classroom, it was very relevant and helpful.
Exciting, informative, constructive, timely

Excellent work with new insights for teachers and parents alike. There is always a challenge in the classroom with each new group of students. I have been using some of the ideas presented here with much success. Thanks to the author for your thoughtful work and understanding.
Challenges and All; They Are Still Children

Some people ask me why I wrote this book. I am not an expert in behavior but I have earned a master's degree in special education and I have also worked with emotionally disabled and oppositional defiant children for the last six years. Though most mainstream teachers and even some special education teachers shun the behavior classroom, I found that the behavior classroom is the best place to connect with children and help them through difficult times of stress and frustration.
Incredibly useful for teachers and parents alike

As the homeschooling mother of three boys with ADHD and emotional issues, I found this book to be very informative. It details everything from the classroom environment to rewards and consequences, field trips and sports, staying on task, and many of the behaviors you can expect to see from the behaviorally challenged child.
While written primarily for teachers, parents of children with behavior issues will find this book to be a treasury of information and coping techniques. Putting these ideas into practice both at home and in the classroom will help the child to feel secure that the adults in his or her life are working with the child to help them become more capable of handling day to day life and responsibilities.
This Book will make a Teacher's Day.

This is one of the most informative books I have ever read regarding behavioral issues in children. The perfect tool for parents with children that have some form of emotional and physical disabilities, this book reviews common behavioral challenges that many of today's students and teachers face. Not only is this book extremely informative for the teacher and parent who cares for children in the classroom with behavioral issues, it also a wonderful learning tool for parents of normal children to gain further knowledge of day to day activities in their daily classroom surroundings. This book also shows you how to deal with childhood behavioral problems should they ever arise. A very thorough "How to" chocked full of information and guidance. Well written!
Very thorough and easy to understand

I am a new father of a pretty rambunctious toddler. My parents tell me that his fierce independence and inability to focus on things outside his immediate interests is exactly how I was growing up. Since becoming a parent they have taught me many things that DIDN'T work for them, but this book allowed me to see these behaviors from another perspective. In my own experience, I learned (many times the hard way) how to deal with social situations. I hope to be able to prepare my son in a way that is focused and consistent while at the same time not breaking his will. This book goes a long way in giving me the tools I will need to do that. After reading the book I was also left with a strong admiration to those who choose to take on these challenges as a full-time profession.
Such Valuable Information

Until I had my youngest child I had never experienced raising such a strong-willed and emotionally based child. Although he is still only a toddler this book gave me many recommendations that I can do at home that may help him to avoid having to attend a behavior classroom. This book also gave me the motivation and strength that I need to keep up the good fight. Even though dealing with the temper tantrum every time I say "no" to him is exhausting, I nom know that it is the right thing to do in order for him to learn an important life lesson. This is a very good book that I highly recommend.
