Never received 2008-09-11
Since I never received it and supplier will not response to email request on order I recommend not ordering it unless you just want to lose your money.

The Secret De-CODE-er Book 2008-07-26
I've worked my way through the NEC and taken Residential Electrical training, but this book made sense out of the chaos. In simple terms the author explains, not only the code, but the reasoning behind it ... and then offers a common sense approach to wiring a home not just to meet code, but to meet the needs of today's home owner. I build for Habitat for Humanity. Economy and common sense are our stock in trade. Ya gotta have this one!

Professional advice 2008-06-12
This series, For Pros by Pros, is the very best series for practical, detailed information on Do It Yourself projects. Too many books just give general information that leaves you hanging if your situation is not exactly like the description in the book and don't give you sufficient information to completely describe what to expect. This series actually helps you complete the job by telling you what you really need to know.

Full of helpful hints, well worth the money 2008-06-04
As other reviewers have pointed out, this is an excellent book for someone with a bit of house wiring experience. It doesn't cover all the basics, and it doesn't completely cover everything one would need to wire a house, but it is chock full of ideas for doing a better wiring job, and making sure you are following the National Electric Code. I especially like the Above Code recommendations--all of which aren't applicable for wiring my cabin, but I've incorporated quite a few.

I'll be going back to this book again and again as my wiring progresses through the final stages. I highly recommend this book as an addition to a library of house wiring resources.

Great book!! 2008-03-25
We are building a log home & doing everything ourselves. Picked up this book after reading a framing book in the same series (For pro's by pros). This book covers all the basics, & includes many pictures, diagrams, anything you could ever want.

Highly recommended.

Good supplement to a code book 2007-12-10

Lots of good reviews here already. I would add that this shouldn't be
the only book you get. It's got lots of really good tips that you
don't find other places, but it is by no means a substitute for a
good NEC code book or textbook like Ray Mullin's.

It's also an intermediate book and assume that you know something.
If you grab Fine Homebuilding every month, you're the ideal reader.

Excellent book for the DIY'er 2007-11-01
An excellent book for doing home wiring projects. The photos and diagrams are very helpful, and the tone of the book isn't in the oft-used "you will die if you do your own wiring" style. He does explain the dangers involved, and suggests that some projects are beyond the average DIY'er (service-from-the-pole installation being one, in my opinion...stay on your side of the master breaker), but not in a Cassandra-ish way. The "above code" sections are also useful for doing an above average job, especially as the author explains the "why."

After following the suggestions and instruction in the book (which, you should read through completely before starting a job), I've gotten several compliments from licensed electritians about my work.

Great reference for intermediate to rooky 2007-09-28
This is a very readable, very well organized how-to book. Anecdotes help illustrate the points and Rex covers a little of practical real-world stuff that is missing from other wiring guides. Clear diagrams and photos. Best of over ten recent books that I surveyed - I bought this one and use it often.

Fantastic. 2007-09-03
Fantastic book for novice to intermediate electrician. Wow this book was written very well and was very helpful. Best of several books I have on the subject.
