Wonderful Spanish Book for Kids (& Adults) 2007-03-11
This word book is great! My son already knows more Spanish than I do, but I was in search of a book to help with every day words and this book is great! I have learned alot from it and the pictures are a plus too!

Great for Beginners 2007-01-20
My toddler loves this book because of the photos of objects and children. Other books I looked at had illustrations but were harder to understand. This one is great!

EXCELLENT BOOK FOR KIDS EDUCATION, TO LEARN ENGLISH OR SPANISH

Great supplement to Spanish curriculum- or any class! 2005-12-31
I use this book in all my Spanish classes, ages 3 to 18, to build vocabulary. It has photos of items, so there's no guessing as to what the vocabulary is about - it's large enough to hold at the front of the classroom (it's not a huge room, but you get the idea) and point as we repeat the words and then to quiz the students, or drill one at a time. A great resource to boost your child's vocabulary or review items from a workbook or other program - the only drawback is there's no phonetic spelling and no CD, so if you're not sure on pronunciation, that may be something to think about.

Excellent Resource for kids and grown ups 2005-09-23
Even after years of academic Spanish, I have turned to this book when at a loss for a word. My kids love it and ask to read it all of the time! There is so much in terms of photos and words that we usually just go through a few pages at a time and leave a bookmark. It helps to know a bit about pronunciation since this book doens't provide a "dummies" guide like the Dora englis/spanish books that my kids also love. This is by far the most comprehensive that I have seen. Excellent for the family room or coffee table!

What fun and excitement - the thrill of language! 2008-06-19
My nephew just loves this book! I find myself learning so much with her and it supplies plenty of laughter. This book instills plenty of confidence as the words are learned and new words are tried out. Plenty of fun.

it is just okay. 2008-05-09
my son liked the book. i wish it told you how to enunciate the words.

Great book if you know some Spanish 2008-05-07
My native language is English, and I speak Spanish fairly well at a conversational level. I am speaking Spanish to my young son so that he will be bilingual. Much of my Spanish vocabulary is business- or government- related, so I got this book to learn words for everyday things. When chosen for that purpose, this book is wonderful. To give one example: beginning Spanish students usually learn "camisa" for shirt and "pantalones" for pants. This book has two large pages of words for specific articles of clothing (pajamas. shorts. raincoat, sweatpants, etc.) As other reviewers have mentioned, the pictures are outstanding and I'm sure my son will like looking at the pages when he's a little order.

You do need a basic grasp of Spanish, and a good Spanish-English dictionary, to use this book most effectively. It does not have a pronunciation guide, so you need to be able to pronounce the words (which isn't hard, since Spanish reads phonetically). Also, most of the words are nouns or verbs, so to really be able to practice using them you need to know how to construct a simple sentence in Spanish.

Be careful and check with a native Spanish speaker or with a dictionary if something doesn't seem right. As another reviewer has mentioned, the usage in this book seems to be South American (I would guess Mexican, but I'm not an expert.) I've found a couple typos ("el peinilla", for example, which should have been "la peinilla"). Also, it pays to check translations of unknown words in a dictionary. For example, there is a picture of a beaded bracelet with the English word "beads" and the Spanish word "pulsera". "pulsera" doesn't mean beads, it means bracelet.

Quick way to look up the basics for our younger children. 2008-02-08
This is just the basics. Our son loves learning Spanish. He's 3 and I want to encourage it. My old tapes are coming back to me from Jr. High and High School Spanish. I'm able to help him with simple sentences using the words from this book. He really likes the pictures. Some of the words are different than in other versions. This can be a bit confusing. Not sure which is correct all of the time, but it serves our purposes. We have two other versions of this dictionary and cross reference. My son likes it because he knows it guarantees more reading time with mom.

a little outdated... 2007-08-01
I bought this book to help me learn Spanish vocabulary and I like it a lot. The pictures are very cute and it is also good to have the Spanish and the English. The only problem I have is that some of the words are words that are no longer used in Spain, or words that are only used in South America. If you are trying to learn South American Spanish, then it is the perfect book for you, but if you want to learn Spanish from Spain, then it is helpful if you have someone that can go through the book and point out the words NOT to learn.
