Borderline Personality Disorder Demystefied

This book was informative, but troubling to read. Though it promises to reassure those struggling with this disorder, the prognosis looks pretty bleak to me, even after reading the book. Could that be a part of the disorder, or could it just be that this book failed to reassure me? In any case, I am still looking for the answers to the tough questions that BPD pose to the sufferer.

I bought this book to gain an understanding of borderline personality disorder (BPD).

I think the book contains a lot of information. I ordered this book along with Sometimes I Act Crazy: Living with Borderline Personality Disorder. For the average reader, I think the other book is slightly better, but they contain a lot of similar information. This book is good, don't think I am giving it a bad review. It gives a good background on the history of the disorder, and it helps give some ideas. The section on pharmacology might be helpful for some, too.

Has some good info, but has a poor writing style. Repetitive use of words; talks down to the reader.

Jerold Kreisman books highly recommended instead.

Truly demystifies BPD

As the mother of a BPD, my lifelong "sense" of something being wrong as been explained. I've read other books but this one integrates many of the behaviors I've observed and couldn't understand. It has allowed me to forgive myself and her.

Perfect Book for Borderline Personality Disorder

I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar II and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This past September. Not only did I not understand this disease, but I didn't understand how or where I got it from. I think I have probably orderdered every book on Amazon relating to BPD. All of them seemed to be a blame game. Feeling sorry for the spouse and family and those close to the person with BPD. The books that tried to explain it to the borderline were useless, There wasn't a whole lot of explaining of what the disease really was and what to do about it. I was lucky, I had a mental and physical breakdown. They did a Neuropyscholical Evaluation on me and that is how scientifically, came to the conclusion and diagnosis of BPD. It's a very difficult disease to diagnose because there are often underlying other issues that go along with it, ADHD, Bi-Polar, Depression, Anxiety etc... This book was not a cry baby book. It gives straight medical facts and tells you how to get help and the right people to get it from. It also goes into genetic factors and medications used to help BPD. Since I have been on the right medication (which is a lot of mix and match to find the meds and dosage that is right for you). It can be frustrating, but don't give up! Your Psychologist will find the right meds after he diagnoses you properly. Thaerapy is also crucial. It teaches people how to function in a strange world that we don't understand. I recommend it to anyone close to you also, so they can get a better understanding about what our inside lonely world feels like. Good Luck!

Very good insight into a very complex and baffling disorder. Makes it easy for a non-psychologist to understanding the condition.

An Aid in Understanding

This book was an excellent resource for me and my family when I was first diagnosed. It really described how I felt and it helped my friends and family understand a lot of why I do things the way I do them and that it really isn't all about me being a brat and manipulative, it's a disorder and the person with BPD suffers just as much as the family. However, I do feel that if you have internet access the info in here is only going to mirror that. But if you are a loved one is diagnosed and you don't want to spend hours searching for relevant information or you just want your family to understand it's a great guide!

A little hard to get into, but what I've read so far makes so much sense. I had a mother with borderline Personality, and never really knew what was wrong with her until now.
