This is a great book and for many this type of plan is the way they have gotten any results. Another less expensive book on this is same kind of plan is http://www.amazon.com/Number-Secret-Permanent-Weight-Loss/dp/1448600839/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245377772&sr=1-1
Great South Beach Diet

I recommend the South Beach diet book because it is not only an
excellent reading book but also a learning experience.I'm on Phase two
and have lost over seven pounds but not only has my weight gone down
so has my blood sugar.Being a diabetic type two for many years has
resulted in many health issues for me and also having the insulin
resistance, caused my weight loss efforts to fail.Even my doctor, an
endocronologist was amazed at my A1C improvement that she took me off
of the diabetic oral drugs. She also praised my weight loss and lower
blood pressure through this diet. This is a great way to lose weight and
improve one's health by eating the good carbs and good fats. Thanks.

Almost perfect

This is the only diet that I have ever been able to lose weight on. My favorite part is that you lose it fast and it comes off the belly first! The first phase might seem tough and a little boring at first, but after a few days you will be in love with it! I was amazed to see that only after the first week I completely lost all my cravings for junk food including my favorites: pizza and ice cream! I only wanted to eat healthy food, especially veggies, which usually made me gag before. My only complaint is that this diet is a little expensive and requires a lot of cooking, but I am about to buy some of the other South Beach Diet books which I have heard have less expensive options and less cooking. I would definitely recommend this diet because it doesn't just cut calories like most diets, it's actually healthy, and it is a scientific diet in the way it is designed to fix your blood sugar and re-train you to make healthier choices.

This is a very good book with great information. An easy read and easy to understand. You will read the book through, but don't get rid of it, because you will find yourself going back and reading up on different information. Once you are past phase one, you will go back and refresh your memory on phase two... If you want to lose weight but eat healthy, this is the diet for you.
Never recieved it!!

When Dr. Agatston set out to develop a palatable, safe diet to ensure the long-term health of his chronically overweight heart patients, he also caused an overnight sensation among South Beach's body-conscious beachgoers. Why? With Dr. Agatston's plan, you shed pounds fast-right from the waistline and belly. His scientifically proven program offers immediate results, helping dieters shed 10, 20, 30 pounds while radically changing their blood chemistry, reversing diabetes, and lowering high cholesterol. The diet works in three stages to change your metabolism and then maintain it, with a healthy assortment of meat and fish, cheese, healthy oils and nuts, vegetables, and even small amounts of carbohydrates and sweets. And it does all this without the dangerous long-term effects of the Zone, Atkins, or other severely restrictive diets, which is why The South Beach Diet earned the support of the American Heart Association, which has warned against many other popular diets. The diet will show you how to: -Shed pounds-without breaking a sweat (no mandatory exercise) -Banish frustrating cravings in 2 weeks -Forget willpower-diet relies exclusively on the physiology of appetite and metabolism
Amazing results!

My husband and I bought this book on the recommendation of family, and the results are terrific! The book spells everything out, provides menus and recipes, and explains logic behind the food changes! It's fabulous!

I highly recommend this book and the program/diet if your doctor agrees you are healthy and that your doctor agrees that its guidelines will benifit your present health. I find that I can control my eating with South Beach because I never feel truly hungry, I nearly always feel satisfied so I'm not thinking about food, instead I'm thinking about other things in life that I want to accomplish and I can focus on something other than my next meal. FREEDOM is a good word for the South Beach Diet, it will set you free in many ways that will enhance your life. Many people where I work have used these guidelines and were living proof to me that it's possible to reduce and maintain. Many of the others at work who followed South Beach have maintained anywhere from 1 year to 5 years and they look fantastic. Their weight fits their frames.
This Diet Is Doable

The diet gave me the impression I could eat as much as I wanted, as long as I ate the right things. I don't think so. The diet still requires moderation and cutting back on portions. For me giving up bread, beer and deserts, then cutting back on fats and pastas (which I love), is making a differnce, about 5 pounds in two weeks. Have been experimenting with the less fatty (good & expensive) types of steaks for the leaner and cheaper cuts, and trying to tenderize them. Still the easiest way to get the protein. The one glass of red wine, is real easy to end up being two or three. But probably better than 2 or 3 beers. I would like to get off my meds, the weight loss will be the (bonus) deserts that I miss. Good Luck.
Get Sally Fallon's book instead

I did the South Beach diet, and you can definitely lose weight with it (at least in the first phase, which is tough to maintain); but a good diet has to consider much more than that. You need saturated fats, which Agatston has us avoid. He's right that we should stay away from processed foods and sugary rubbish, but there's nothing new here. A better way to lose weight is to do some regular fasting, or at least some kind of cutting back of how much you eat, and keep a traditional diet, such as advocated by Sally Fallon or Jordan Rubin.
