A new spin on an old song

When my daughter picked this book up at the local library, I wondered if it was just a song book. She was into the whole teapot craze, wanting to have tea parties, singing the tea pot song, etc. What I found when we got it home, however, was a delightful surprise.
The many verses in this song take children through many different cultures on a great exploration. From China to Mexico to outer space! After checking the book out numerous times from the library, I decided to go ahead and buy it. As we'd drive along in the car during the day, I'd hear my two year-old reciting the lines to the book. At night, she would study the book from page to page trying to find the alien, who had surprise appearances throughout the book. When she sat alone, I'd watch her identify boys and girls by the color of their clothes, by the way the wore their hair, by the place she thought they might be from.
This is a very creative book with fantastic illustrations that pull you in with its lyrical flow and excellent rhyme. What a great way to broaden a child's horizons!
Fabulous for the imagination and more!!!

Both my daughter (4) and son (2) absolutely love this book. We usually sing it from start to finish and the illustations have little details which you can use as conversation points. My daughter now invents her own adventures for the teapot to add to the numerous ones in the book. The music for this is on the back page which you can either play or sing. Both my children run their fingers over the notes and sing "la la la" as they go. Great for developing an early interest in reading music!
Beautifully Illustrated and Fun to Read (or Sing!)

We own 4 Iza Trapani books, and this is my favorite (the other books are The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Baa Baa Black Sheep, my other favorite). All of these books are just beautifully done. Ms. Trapani takes favorite nursery rhymes and turns them into entertaining stories that just beg to be sung (she even puts the music on the last page in case you don't know the tune). Her exceptional drawings really add to the fun. My 5-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter absolutely adore these books and they are short enough that I don't mind reading them every night (only Twinkle Twinkle sort of wears me out singing it). I'm a Little Teapot takes readers all over the world on an imaginative adventure, then ends up back at home among family and friends. It's a beautiful, fun-to-sing story.
Wonderful for toddlers

My 2 year old takes this book to bed with her every nap/night and I hear her singing at the top of her lungs along with the book (we've read it to her many times too). It is her absolute favorite book and has provided hours of entertainment.
A great buy for the toddler set!!
Good, not great

Join our rambunctious teapot as he gets all steamed up just waiting to share his imaginative adventures with you. Grab your coat as you sail down the river on a boat to China, run off to Mexico to fight a bull, race with the hounds on a fox hunt, and hide
It's Good but Not Great

Based on the hyperventilating reviews here at Amazon, I ordered this book for my toddler and got it last week. It's certainly a good book - the papers are high-quality gloss, and the colors of the artwork are very vivid.
That said, there is nothing extraordinary about this book. This is not to damn this book with faint praise - it's that it's just one of the thousands of children's books that are above average. The artwork is certainly mediocre - the humans look stiff, weird and joyless, and the space alien creeps out my son - and me as well. If you want to see amazing artwork, see the 'Old Turtle' by Douglas Wood. But you don't have to be a great 'artist' to please children. Richard Scarry is certainly not a great artist, but his simply - even crudely - drawn characters radiate joy that toddlers seem to pick up right away. Scarry's 'Best ABC Ever' video is one of my sons' all-time favorites.
The story line of this book also feels forced, and the rhymes don't sound natural when you read them out aloud. My son did not take to the art/text of this book like he did with 'Green Eggs and Ham', which is an example of an extraordinary classic. However, the price of this book is ok, and it's a fair purchase for your toddler.
Baby's favorite thing!

We got a free copy of this book when our daughter was born, and within several months, it was her favorite thing. She loved it to death, so to speak, so we bought her the boardbook version. She's 16 months and version 2 is a casualty of love. I'm about to get yet another copy.
While the lyrics lack a bit if you want to teach your child about traveling or the world, the premise of the story is cute, and my child loves to have this sung to her. It is the first thing she picks up every morning.
If you have the patience to sing the "I'm a Little Teapot" tune over and over and over again, I would highly recommend this book.
Iza Trapani has done it again!!!

This women is amazing!!! I love the way she makes the teapot the main character in the story. Iza Trapani's books have been our all-time favorites. She has a way of taking already wonderful children's songs and making them even more memorable.
The theme of the book, is a teapot wanting to share it's dreams with the children (brother and sister). The book takes the chidren on a wonderful, imaginitive, adventure to China, Spain, and even outer space. There's a jungle adventure where the little teapot plays peek-a-boo with the children. My kids like finding the children in the picture (and the other hidden animals from previous verses). The illustration is wonderful. As you can see by the cover, the teapot is drawn with cherub-like soft curvy lines (as are the childern).
The finale is adorable. The childern are having tea with their entire family, even the characters from all their teapot adventures (including the alien from outer space!). Can you spot them all?
I must also HIGHLY recommend "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
This is my favorite Iza Trapani book!

I love the wonderful pictures and the rhyme is so much fun! The pages are sturdy and have been in the hands of my toddler countless times. This and Itsy Bitsy Spider are the only books of this kind that my oldest son can hold the tune to throughout all the verses! "I'm A Little Teapot" will always be my favorite but my kids love "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" the best!
