Good product.

Kids seem to like it, but get bored within 15-20 minutes, but I do see a lot of progress...

A definate would buy again! I figure 15-20 mins with progress is great! Better than otehr things we have tried where they refuse to do it at all.........

Great Reading Tool

The HOP series is a great tool for teaching children to read. It introduces a lot of phonics, but also sight words
(high frequency words.) My son just turned 4 and he completed the Kindergarten box and is half way through the 1st grade box. But he can now read mini-chapter books we get at the Library, i.e. I Can Read series.
This is a good guide for helping parents know where to start. However, you have to get other books at the library or bookstore to read at least 15-20 minutes additional each day to really build confidence and comprehension.

Amazing Results!

Hooked on Phonics Learn to Read is a wonderful way to spark a child's love for reading! It offered a motivation for our son using both the progress charts/stickers and a gradual change in the level of difficulty that we could not find elsewhere. He successfully completed the Kindergarten Edition and is now reading the chapter books in the 1st grade HOP program with confidence. The stories have all been age appropriate with wonderful content. Thanks to HOP, we feel ready for our 1st grade year!

Good, but not as good kindergarten edition

My 4 year old went through the kindergarten edition in about 6 weeks so I ordered the first grade edition. It's the same process as the kindergarten edition- learn the sounds, read the review words and the story, and learn the helper words. The stories are longer so lessons take a longer time to do. The only problem I found was with the CD. The lady is speaking much faster and my child had trouble keeping up. We're not using the CD in this first time around. If my child masters the lessons well, we might use it in the second time we go through this. Other than the CD, we had no problems with the HOP's first grade edition.

I was concerned about my child reading

This product is great and really builds confidence with your child, be careful when your child begins to use this site looking for movies that are rated x I put in a search for a movie called sunshine pg 13 and checked the other new and used button and what it turned up in the search was x rated pictures of women on the cover of the movies do not let your child on the site alone.
The hooked on phonics is a great system and Iwould recommend it

I am very satisfied with the product. I homeschool my 2 children. I used hooked on phonics learn to read for kindergarten with my son last year. Hooked on phonics is a terrific, easy to use way to teach phonics. I would't use anything else. The price @ Amazon was less (even with shipping) than @ any learnng store I have shopped at, as well as the hooked on phonics website price!

I ordered this kit when my six year old grandson was having a terrible time learning his letters and even recognizing simple words. He had to stay back in kindergarten a second time, and his teacher was actually suggesting that he be tested for a learning disability. I was ready to do whatever it took to get him on the right track. At first he fought it, and didn't want to pay attention, but with the right incentives(bribes, etc.) I finally got him to settle down and do the program. I have to say that he doesn't always have the patience to do each of the sessions all at one shot, so sometimes I have to break them up, or give a time limit of no more than 15 to 20 minutes, but it has been a HUGE breakthrough!! He is totally caught up with his class and is sounding out words as well as all the other kids. His teacher says she no longer believes he has any type of learning disorder, and has vastly improved. I'd recommend this program to anyone who has a child having trouble catching on to spelling and phonics - you can adjust it to your childs needs and attention span and it still works. We do it about three or four times a week, and it's GREAT. And wait till you see how proud of themselves they are when they can actually read a story by themselves! It makes them want to keep going. I love this program!!

Great product

My first grader needed an extra boost in his reading skills. I decided to try this product out. We've only used it for a couple of weeks and I can see the improvements already. Not to mention the increase in his confidence level. This is money well spent.
