Misrepresented facts

I'm all for parents being alerted to the dangers of vaccines but this book really miscontrues things that are factually correct to lead you to illogical reasoning. First he speaks of thimerosal and how dangerious it is, but fails to mention that except for the flu shots NONE of the vaccines have this in them anymore. Another big argument he uses is that the diseases were declining already before vaccines were there so that means they're ineffective and unneeded. So what if they were declining they would not have been ELIMINATED or reduced to the number they are now at without vaccines. There are many points that are flawed that he makes especially the links between rising crime and vaccines and things of that nature. If you really want to learn about the dangers of vaccines than read "The Vaccine Book" by Dr. Robert Sears, it's one book where the whole attachment parenting crap is left OUT of it (except for breastfeeding) and it's really very informative as to the issues that parents TODAY (not a decade ago) face about childhood immunizations.

This book is a fantastic presentation of all of the statistics regarding vaccines. I am a researcher into the vaccine issue and know all the statistics myself. This is by far the best, most accurate, and easiest reading presentation of the information. Miller truly does a great job explaining each disease, vaccine, trends, and statistics. It is a quick and easy read. I have given it to family and friends many times. It is so easy to understand. It is a great starting place if you are just learning about the issues around vaccines and will help you make an informed decision.

Two other recent reviews on this book say that this book is wrong and that it's statistics are inaccurate. I have done my own research and disagree.
This is an excellent book to get the no-vaccine or delayed vaccine opinion. It is not perfect, but then again the CDC's vaccines statistics are inaccurate too!
This is an good resources to be very informed about vaccines so that you can make the best desicion for your child.
EVERY Parent should read this 2007-07-02
This book is fantastic! It is very informative and the facts are well researched with many sources cited. I planned to vaccinate my children and a friend let me borrow this book while I was pregnant (she got it from her chiropractor.) I was extremely sceptical- until I started reading. People will accuse those who don't vaccinate of being bad parents but if you educate yourself about the vaccines you'll realize that not vaccinating is one of the best things that you can do for your child. This book gives pros and cons for each vaccine but the cons far outweigh the pros. Many of the vaccines can have devastating impacts on short-term and long-term health, cause disorders and even death. Read this book- for your children!
Very well researched, informative book! 2007-06-05
I have read many books on this controversial subject and this is by far the best, most well researched book to date that I have read. If and when I do decide to vaccinate it will be on a delayed schedule and they will be selective, the benefits of vaccinations just don't outweigh the risks, especially if you are breastfeeding, your child has natural immunity to many illnesses.
In the end each parent has to make the best decision for their child but personally knowing a parent who's child was perfect and alert and then received his 6 month "routine" vaccinations and become like a zombie and now has autism, it really meakes you think.
Even medical doctors are acknowledging the fact that vaccines are risky when given in the combinations they are dispensed in. In Dr. David Perlmutter's book "Raise a smarter child by kindergarten" he discusses how in 1991 the US gvt. added 3 additional vaccines to the required number and in that same year the rates of autism went up 1500%. Coincidence?
He suggests a delayed vaccine schedule and using single dose vials, which supposedly contain less thimerosal. Decide for yourself!
PS- For all those angry 1 star reviewers, why don't you talk to a parent of a child that has had an adverse vaccination reaction and see how angry they are!
Another anti-vaccine nonsense book

One wonders why there seems to be an industry that picks on the single most effective public health measure in human history, vaccines. Vaccination ranks up there with good nutrition and flush toilets as the main reasons we are alive and healthy today. Mr. Miller plays with our collective amnesia for what it was actually like before widespread vaccination was adopted in the 20th Century. I guess it will actually take a series of epidemics before people realize that everyone should be vaccinated.
This book is filled with pseudo-science, blatant falsehood, and limited understanding of what these diseases are actually like. It would be almost laughable it it wasn't so dangerous by discouraging people to vaccinate their children.

All the so called "educated" doctors do not even read this book. All the pediatricians I have spoke to in Arizona and now in Virgina know nothing about the book. Even though the book is scientific with references to JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association) and many others that Doctors read! Pharmaceutical companies make money at the expense of you and your child!

"I would urge you to discuss the matter with your pediatrician. I would also strongly urge your to take this book with a grain of salt if you read it."
That is just crazy talk, as pediatricians are brain washed by the medical schools who are funded by the pharmaceutical companies.

Grain of salt to me is trusting your pediatrician! This author has the evidence in science and history with the Medical Journals worldwide to back it up, that is hardly a grain of salt!
For the skeptics and the ones against this book or pro-vaccinations: If you believe so much in vaccines, then why is it that you fear my child that is NOT vaccinated being around your child? !! a so-so book. very slated, and very difficult to read. there are other books that cover this topic better but if this was your only choice it would work.
Excellent research and wonderful charts 2007-12-02
This book is easy to read and contains numerous understandable charts that are footnoted to credible sources. I buy this book 10 copies at a time and keep them in my car so I can give it to women I meet that are expecting. I normally say "Have you heard about the vaccine debate?" If they're at all open to the subject, this book saves a very detailed discussion of vaccine pros and cons.
He has a whole chapter on the following vaccine disesases, polio, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B, chickenpox, haemophilus influenzae type B (that the hib vaccine is given for), pnuemococcus, meningitis C, hepatitis A, RSV, flu, anthrax, and smallpox.
He says that several studies have shown that injections increase susceptibility to polio. He has an awesome chart that shows the increase in polio following the introduction of diphtheria and pertussis vaccines. He also has charts demonstrating that the polio death rate was already significantly decreasing before the vaccine was introduced. Then there's another chart that shows how reported cases of polio actually increased following mass vaccination.
In the pertussis chapter, he has a great chart that again demonstrates how significantly the death rate had decrease prior to the introduction of the vaccine. About 1 in 200 children that received the full DPT series suffered a serious reaction. It really scared me that babies die at a rate 7 time greater than normal within three days of a pertussis shot!
He quotes surveys in medical journals that say that 87% of doctors do not think the hepatitis B vaccine is needed by their newborn patients. The groups at highest risk of contracting hepatitis B are IV drug users, prostitutes, and sexually active gay men. It is given at birth, 1 month, and 6 months.
He explains that Hib-vaccinated children are up to 6 times more likely to contract Hib during the week following their vaccination versus non-vaccinated children. Research shows that antibody levels actually decline immediately following vaccination. A landmark study of 200,000 children was done in Finland and published in the British Medical Journal. The group that received 4 doses of the Hib vaccine had 26% more cases of diabetes than the non-vaccinated group. The study concluded that the "increased risk of diabetes in the vaccinated group exceeds the expected decreases risk of complications of Hib meningitis"
He has another pie chart that graphically shows that 70% of doctors and nurses do not get flu shots.
One of the most shocking charts was the one that shows that in a survey 82% of doctors admitted they don't report a serious vaccine reaction! That's how many doctors admit it. How many don't admit it?
This is a wonderfully easy to understand book. While it is based on solid research, it was written by a lay person, which may account for how easy it is to read. I recommend it to anyone who is considering vaccinating.
