As a retreat facilitator I am always looking for books to add to our library for both singles and couples. I found the couples kit by Gary Chapman and like it so I decided to purchase this book. This edition deals with how to communicate with anyone and offers tools and advice that anyone can use and understand.
Five Love Languags for Singles 2007-10-19
This is a really great book! It is amazing how much insight it gave me into my relationships not only with the opposite sex but also with my two son's, my siblings and my parents. I would highly recommend this book as well as "The Five Love Languages for Couples" for ANYONE who would like to improve any reltionships in their life. Understanding exactl what it is that makes us feel loved and also identifying what makes others feel loved is a wonderful and fulfilling experience and has helped to enhance all my relationships, even those I did not believe needed improving to begin with.

I think there are very few books out there that literally anyone could benefit from. Singles, couples, kids, anybody. I recommend this book a lot, if nothing else just for the sheer value of people becoming more aware of their relationships.
I know my parents marriage was in part saved by this book and some of the deeper understanding it brought them.
If it were up to me, there would be a copy on every book shelf.
Simple and sophiscated at same time 2007-08-21
Over the years I have counseled many people purchased many, many excellent relationship books, despite the slight Religious References this book is among the top ten, no the top 3 under essential reading. Here advice seems simple untill you start practicing, it takes a bit of work, but the results are excellent! I intend to buy more copies of this and her book for couples on The Five love Languages, to give away. Her advice is excellent for anyone who wants to get along better with someone in their life, family, friends, business associates well as Significent Others.
A must read! 2008-07-20
I learned about "The Five Love Languages" from a former coworker who found it incredibly helpful in his marriage. Not being married myself, I purchased this version for singles.
I have recommed this book (or the original) to just about everyone I know and a many I don't!
The concepts are so simple but yet profound. Understanding the primary love languages of my friends, family and even coworkers has been very helpful and has strengthened our relationships.
The only negative feedback I would give is in regards to the Physical Touch chapter... it isn't until then that you truly realize this is a Christian book! I deeply respect Mr. Chapman but think he should know that people have pre-marital sex and it is not a sin! Aside from that, this (or the original) is a MUST READ!!!

I enjoyed the book. It was light, easy to read, apply, and understand. I plan to use it for all relationships in the future

I thought this book was very helpful. While some of the information seems like common sense, there are some valuable lessons to be learned. It really helps you understand other people and the way they both express and need love. It has allowed me to see certain things people do as expressions of love, rather than hum-drum everyday deeds or comments. I have a new perspective on how to express love to my friends and family in a way that they will see it as love. You may only find certain chapters or stories applicable, but either way, this book is worth skimming and it is an enjoyable easy read!

Okay first of all, I read this entire book in about 3 hours. This was part of a study we were doing at a bible study group; and I have to say I'm cynical about this book even from a Christian's perspective.
First, take a look at the cover. See those ridiculously happy nicely dressed perfect looking people? Well if you're not one of them, this book isn't for you. It's full of superficial and contrived mini-stories. To me
they just don't seem to fit in with real life situations that people have with all the hurting and complicated lives we go through. The stories remind me of those how-to educational films from the 40's
The basic message of the book is this: learn what makes people in your life feel loved, follow the golden rule, etc. etc. It's pretty much intuition. I don't think however that it will lead to some miraculous change in how you deal with people nor will it do anything to help you establish new relationships.
Not just for "Romantic Relationships" 2008-03-06
The title of the book is a little misleading. When the group I am in started studying this book, I thought it was going to be a waste of time for me because I am not in a relationship. Well, was I ever wrong!!! If you have a parent, family member, co-worker, friend, or just even know anyone---then you have a relationship. This book gives wonderful insight into understanding those around you and building better relationships. It also helps you understand yourself better and explains why we react the way we do to seemingly innocent gestures. Highly recommend this book, in fact I ordered it for a friend. It was so helpful, I also ordered the Love Languages for Children and for Teens.
