NOT GLUTEN-FREE 2008-06-10
There are other great books out there that explore eating healthy whole foods that are gluten and dairy-free. This book is unfortunately not gluten-free. I have 2 sons with ADHD who are on the GF / CF diet. I was hoping this book would provide some new recipes for our family - there are some that we have found - but most of them take a while to prepare. Two of my favorite books are The Gluten-Free Vegan: 150 Delicious Gluten-Free, Animal-Free Recipes and The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook: Whole Foods Recipes for Personal and Planetary Health. Both books have tons of healthy recipes that are gluten, dairy, and egg-free!

Awesome Cookbook, A Life Saver for the Allergic Person! 2008-06-03
I just purchased this book a few weeks ago and I love it. Every recipe I have tried so far has turned out fantastic. I have to be on a very restrictive diet while breast feeding my very food allergic daughter and it was just so wonderful to be able to cook a meal the entire family could eat and enjoy.

Microwave your onion? 2008-05-30
The book is compliant to it's mission of providing recipies for those with allergies.
But it is not for the experiences cook.
If you are a novice in the kitchen and need some help,
this book may be for you.
But if with a creativity and thought, the experienced
gormet can come up with their own wonderful allergy-free recipies.

Bon Appetit!

I know how to Cook Non-allergenic food like Speghetti & Grits - Nothing amazing at all about the recipes 2008-05-28
This book is simply a recipe book which replaces eggs & nuts in recipes with name brand egg-substitutes and such. There are tons of references to specific brands of ingredients.
And the remainder of the recipes are simple every day recipes.. that dont have eggs in them in the first place.
Yes.. I know how to cook oatmeal, grits, or speghetti without using eggs and nuts.
There are much better books out there.

Great Variety of Recipes!!! 2008-05-21
I have used about 15 recipes so far and liked everyone of them. Sometimes it is hard to get the same results(with texture)compared to cooking with allergenic foods(such as butter), but that is to be expected. I have used coconut milk for the creamy-based soups, which works very well. Also, she gives you guidelines if you want to switch out an ingredient to a more allergenic one(such as eggs), since for an example my daughter is not allergic to eggs. And Finally...there is a good variety of recipes to choose from and most require ingredients that I typically keep on hand. Word of caution...not a gluten-free cookbook

excellent and tasteful.. 2008-05-21

NOT WORTH IT AT ALL 2008-04-14
DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT - ALL THE RECIPES ARE DIFFICULT AND REQUIRE ALL SORTS OF FANCY INGREDIENTS THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON DOES NOT HAVE IN THEIR KITCHEN. MOST OF THE RECIPES DO NOT EVEN SOUND GOOD! I WASTED MY MONEY WITH THIS BOOK.

Better than decent 2008-04-07
Some good resources and recipes. My issue is multiple allergies so while a recipe might be dairy free or gluten free, there are very few combination recipes. This means a lot of substitutions, which for my money, I can do on my own with recipes from online.

Life saving recipes 2008-02-13
I purchased this cookbook because I had to go on a no-dairy, no-soy, no-egg diet due to the food intolerances of my baby who I am breastfeeding. I initially started trying to cook foods from scratch that I had in the past and removing the dairy/soy/egg with my own substitutions. Although this worked for a while my variety was extremely limited as I did not know how to substitute ingredients in baked goods and/or more complicated recipes. This cookbook has provided a great source of help and inspiration. The recipes are quite good and you no longer feel deprived because there are recipes for everything from appetizers and snacks to desserts. I particularly like the baked goods, although I did have to experiment a bit altering cooking times and at times adding a bit more baking powder in order to get things just right (which I believe has something to do with my oven not the recipes). The book has been extremely helpful for my family as we can continue to eat together and have good healthy food. I was even able to have a great chocolate cake for my birthday--something I thought I would not have until after my baby stopped breastfeeding. One thing to keep in mind is that if you are not a cook (which I am not) it will take time to feel more comfortable creating the recipes as the recipes are not always simple. However, the end product is well worth it. Also note that some of the necessary ingredients will likely not be readily available in a standard grocery store and you will need to head to the health food store or a store like Whole Foods to get several of the ingredients. I would recommend this book and have to my daughter's pediatrician in the event there are other parents in my position.

A God Sent Cookbook! 2008-01-31
My son was recently diagnosed with multiple food allergies and I was at a loss of how to cook for my family. Does he get special meals while we eat as a family? Do we all eat plain chicken and potatos every night? Will he never enjoy sweet treats?
The Whole Foods Allergy cookbook has allowed me to cook delicous (and normal!) meals for my whole family that are safe for my son. My husband is very picky and a cheese lover, but he has also loved the recipes. I can't stop raving about this cookbook and keep trying to find people with food allergies so I can tell them about the book.
So far we have really enjoyed the turkey meatloaf, Lady from Naples Sauce, turkey meatballs and the favorite dressing. I have also made the oatmeal cookies and corn chowder which were pretty good. I look forward to trying more recipes.
Get this book if you have anyone in your house with food allergies and want to try to live a normal life!
