Editorial Review
Pickle-Chiffon Pie is a story without a villain. No fighting, no bloodshed, but still exciting and fast-moving. It is a tale that stretches the imagination: the reader must accept a juggling lion (six cans of root beer at once!) and a sixteen-foot Gazoo. Not a hard assignment for a child, but perhaps a bit more difficult for a wordly grown-up.

Take heart, you staid elders. The story has elements running throughout that should appeal to adults as well as children (how 'bout mice that paint in the fashion of Picasso, Matisse, Grant Wood and even Toulouse Lautrec?) because the author knew that if a story IS A REALLY GOOD ONE, parents everywhere would be commanded by their children to read it aloud again and again. And maybe even once more...

Another Great Book! 2008-08-13
Sad to say, I'd never heard of Jolly Roger Bradfield before... until I found an original book at an Antique Book Fair. It was a bit too pricey for me so I checked out Amazon... YES! They're all here! Very cute stories and GREAT artwork. I will be getting them all!

One of my true favorites 2008-06-20
This book is fabulous through and through. I love the creative, quirky illustrations and the imaginative storyline, but what really sets this book apart is the beautiful message: that the right prince for a princess is the one who shows kindness and consideration for others. A great message for girls among the princess-fantasy filled world of books.

The Platinum Standard 2008-03-06
A reprint of a children's classic - entertaining storyline, whimsical illustrations, timeless moral lessons. It recently captured and held the attention of my son's entire kindergarten class as effectively as it did mine over 40 years ago. The lesson: compassion and thoughtfulness is worthy of the biggest rewards in life.

One of my absolute favorites as a child 2008-01-18
I've looked for this book for years, wanting to read it to my own children. How lucky I am that it has been republished and that I still have children young enough to properly enjoy it, and how sad that my older children missed it when they were in the prime audience age range!

This is a beautiful, thoroughly enchanting story which illustrates how woefully wrong it is to sacrifice the well being of others in striving for your own personal joy and success. I recall how taken I was with the colony of artist mice painting mini masterpieces and the pie making creature, how much I would have wanted them for my own even without the promise of a princess' hand in marriage (or prince's for that matter, though at age six I wasn't interested in either) as a reward. I was awed by Bernard's show of respect for creatures I would have had difficulty recognizing as anything other than toys before learning they had lives and purposes of their own. Some people go through their entire lives without learning that.

I absolutely love this book! 2007-09-20
I had this book when I was a little girl and it's always been my favorite kids book! I'm in the process of getting one to read to my kids also. Seeing the cover on here takes me back 20 years and that's very cool :)

After all these years! 2007-06-11

sweet book 2007-05-17
My four year old is not old enough to read this one by himself, but what a great lesson! It has humor that he understands and a moral (a giving heart is more important than stuff) that makes me happy to read it again and again.

perfect for children and adults 2007-02-06
This book has fun pictures, full of colorful textures, of imaginative creatures and places. The story is well told of three princes seeking the hand of a sought after princess. The ending is uplifting and teaches each of us to think with our hearts first. I loved it.

An enjoyable tale with a moral to the story 2007-01-10
I instantly fell in love with this book when I first read it and have since donated to the school library and given it as gifts. Fabulous story where it pays to care about others and make right choices.

Nostalgia 2006-11-10
I had this book when I was really little, and I remembered loving it. That's the whole reason for my buying it, but when I received it in the mail and opened it, two of my nieces were there and were very excited about it. They love the book and ask if they can read it everytime they remember. Good book. Really cute. But that could just be the memories talking.
