Editorial Review
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 166 children is born with autism. Tenna Merchent is only too familiar with this frightening statistic as she feared her own son might suffer from this devastating disorder. When her son was born, he seemed healthy. But by the time he was six weeks old, the infant cried for hours each evening if he wasn't constantly nursed. As the months went on, Clay frequently was seriously ill. By the time he was two years old, he could say only a few words, would bang his head for no apparent reason, often walked on his toes, was severely allergic to numerous things, constantly sick, and suffered from nose and chest congestion. He had systemic yeast, was terrified by sudden noises, wouldn't sleep for more than two hours straight, and was unhappy most of the time. All of his symptoms pointed to the possibility of autism. And to make matters worse, Merchent herself became seriously ill. This book describes her journey through traditional medicine, then the move to alternative care. The miracles begin when she discovers a master herbalist who reveals to her the primary cause of their ill health: aluminum. The simplicity of fully curing both herself and her son is astounding, and she illustrates the art of releasing in detail here. Also included is an invaluable list of remedies for common ailments, as well as a section on resources for herbs and homeopathies.

Read this book 2008-04-10
Tenna Merchent's honest account of her efforts to recover her little boy "on the brink" of autism addresses the many elements necessary for recovery when a family is confronted with the trainwreck of metabolic causes and issues that underlie this disorder which the medical community still overlooks in diagnosing autism as a whole-body disorder (as opposed to simply a "behavioral problem"). For any parent starting out on this rocky road, I would recommend this book. Merchent's relentless and brutally honest inquiry led her to some unconventional cures. Her faith, courage, and trust in herself as the trailblaxer of her child's return to health demonstrates clearly what it takes to get the job done. For other parents starting down this path, this book is a warm companion. You will no longer feel that you are alone.

Anybody and ANY illness can benefit from this book 2008-03-03
It was like this Christian author opened my life and wrote a book about it. The amazing part was that I was not reading the book for information on autism, it was recommended so I could learn about alternative healing for cancer and other illnesses. What was so amazing is my child had very similar problems without the autism.....multi allergies..he beat his head from headaches, etc. and I too was sick and exhausted all the time. The medical field was ruining my sons little 18 month old body. I am rescued by honest people like Tenna Merchent who share the key to what God intended us to have. Healthy body and mind Naturally. Take note....We ALL can learn.

DISAPPOINTED 2008-02-28
I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED IN THIS BOOK. THE AUTHOR SEEMED TO JUMP AROUND QUITE A BIT AND THE TIMELINE WAS HARD TO FOLLOW. BOTH HER AND HER SON HAD MANY ALLERGIES WHICH SEEMED TO MAKE QUITE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR SYMPTOMS. THE STORY LEFT ME A BIT CONFUSED.

Don't miss this book 2008-02-19
Reviewed by Dr. Carol Hoyer for Reader Views (2/08)

Ms. Merchant, if nothing else, is an exceptional mother and advocate for her child who the medical profession felt "at a high risk for autism." The long journey she and her family made for two years to figure out what was going on with her son, as well as herself, was long, hard and often heartbreaking. I can think of no family that I have worked with during my tenure as a Psychologist with families with special needs that did a complete 360-degree turn as Ms. Merchent did.

At times during the reading of this book, I almost felt as if Ms. Merchent was almost aggressive to the point of being annoying. However, after reading all the failed treatments, diagnosis and pushing of vaccines by medical personnel she had a right to be this way.

My knowledge by reading this book has only added reinforcement to my own professional views that doctors aren't always right. I also found the information she provided on toxic aluminum and systemic yeast very informative and something I think every child should be tested for while looking at diagnosis of autism. Since alternative medical treatments have not been overly publicized, it is one area that I think all parents should explore. I know I found her experiences with alternative medicine exciting and least harmful to the body.

This reader not only as a parent, but as a professional, would recommend "He's Not Autistic, But..." be reading for every parent, parent-to-be, special education personnel and school resource staff as well as up and coming medical professionals.

A Mother's Determination 2008-02-19
He's Not Autistic, But. . . by Teena Merchant

Teena Merchant has written a very timely, amazing book that allows us to share the struggles she has gone through with her son, Clay.

This family's struggle to find the reasons for her tiny son's illness is heroic. After going to countless medical professionals and finding no solution for her son's illness, she persevered and finally found that alternative medicine was able to diagnose and treat her son thereby keeping him from regressive Autism.

Every parent of a young child should read this book. It gives hope to others who may be going through undiagnosed problems with their own children.

Congratulations Ms. Merchant.

Has alot of great information. 2008-02-13
First thing I'd like to say is that this book has alot of really good information. The story and conclusion are both inspiring as well. A must read for anyone who wonders about their own child's predisposition towards autism. That said, I feel that some of the therapies are a bit questionable, bordering on "the power of the mind to overcome". Which I do believe in. In one part in particular, I just couldn't tell exactly what that master herbalist did. Herbalists deal with herbs, so I guess they might have done something that helped instantly. Overall I do recommend this book. Alot of great information.

Compelling, inspiring, empowering 2008-02-08
This book is the powerful, compelling account of a determined mother's battle to bring her son from a downward spiral of compounding illnesses back to health. The author herself experiences severe illness during her son's struggle. Merchent is courageous in the personal details she shares. Her turn from conventional to holistic treatments shows the strength of the author's open-mindedness to consider all possibilities, all solutions. To see Merchent journey through the pages of this book from desperation to relief to gratitude for her son's healing and her own is very moving. The power of this mother's faith and the power of her love are deeply inspiring. An empowering book.

A must read book 2007-12-28
I found this book to be very interesting. I agree with the author's conclusions in the book. Don't ever allow a doctor to pressure you to vaccinate your child until you have taken the time to educate yourself on the very real dangers associated with vaccines. Also, you as a parent need to retain your "power." You as a parent love and know how to care for your child(ren) better than anyone else can. Don't ever allow yourself to be pressured to do something you don't feel right about. And remember the very REAL power of prayer. The author also talks about the link between allergies and autistic behaviors. I have an [...] daughter who displayed some autistic behaviors from the time she was an infant. I am so glad I found this book-it's a must read for anyone who has a loved one with autistic behaviors.

Dizzying array of alternative approaches 2007-11-13
This amazing little books presents a number of fascinating alternative healing approaches to ASD, using the diagnosis and treatment of the author's son as a framing device. It's a good introduction to the concepts, and provides suggestions for additional resources and paths to follow. Recommended for parents of children on the autism spectrum or with sensory intergration issues, who know their regular doctors just aren't helping, and who know they should be doing something else but don't know where to start in the alternative healing world.
