Stargate SG-1 Season 8 (Thinpak)
I am a Stargate Fan from way back, esp. when Richard Dean Anderson was on the show so Seasons 1 through 9 I guess are the ones I want to collect. I have Season 1 & 8 now and am very pleased with both DVD's I have ordered. I have ordered mine new, and felt the prices were very reasonable. The quality of the DVD's are exceptional, and I will continue to order mine from Amazon.com.
One of the better seasons of SG-1
2008-09-12
My children and I have been going through each of the Stargate videos starting with the original movie (and editing out the one nudie scene in "Children of the Gods", which is otherwise a very good episode). They love it. We're now in Season 8 and many story lines are coming together, it's a very satisfying season.
It's pretty funny when I'm reminding my 7 year old about something and she replies, "You blow up one sun and everybody expects you to walk on water!"
enjoyable sci-fi storytelling
2008-09-09
although I enjoy Battlestar Galactica and Farscape more than SG1.... SG1 is an enjoyable ride in the sci-fi television universe. Amanda Tapping is especially good in the well-written role of Lt. Carter that she plays with enthusiasm.
fun series to rent and watch over the weekend.
Love the Series

FIRST TV SERIES PURCHASE
2008-06-18
This is the first time I have ever spent money on a season of TV. Loved it. It is so great watching something you love and not having commercials getting in the way. I also can pop it in my computer and watch it when I am in bed. I have already bought another season.

STARGATE SG-1 DVD:8TH SSN V1: Episode #8.1: New Order Part 1 - When Carter and Teal'c fly to the Asgard world of Hala in hopes of finding a way to revive O'Neill, they are attacked by Replicators, who take Carter prisoner. Meanwhile, Dr. Weir and Daniel Jackson attempt to negotiate a treaty with Goa'uld System Lords who wish to unite against a common enemy. Episode #8.2: New Order Part 2 - The Goa'uld send a mothership to Earth, demanding that it prove its superior defenses. As Dr. Weir applies her most expert diplomatic tactics, Daniel and the still unconscious body of Colonel O'Neill are unexpectedly beamed aboard Thor's ship, where Thor tries to access the knowledge of the Ancients. Episode #8.3: Lock Down - When Jackson contracts a mysterious illness from a Russian colonel, O'Neill is convinced that a contagion has infected the base and orders a lockdown. But when Jackson reveals that he was actually possessed by Anubis, who is now loose on the base, O'Neill must discover the identity of the new host! Episode #8.4: Zero Hour - O'Neill finds his plate full with a visit from the president and negotiations between two warring tribes from the planet Amra. But when SG-1 is captured by a Goa'uld System Lord and he's forced to choose between the safety of the team and the fate of an entire planet, O'Neill begins to question his competency!
Great Season to wrap up the original SG1 story line
2008-02-15
This season was a good season and this set has the full version of "Threads" which is my favorite SG1 episode out off all of them. Most of the episodes are really good exept "Avatar" which is probobly one of the weaker episodes of the whole series. All in all this season does justice to the end of the 1st SG1 storyline.
A fitting end

Others have written of this season.
My two cents is that the show comes to a very nice conclusion with the end of this season. You don't need seasons nine and ten. You can stop here if you wish.
Concerned about buying this....
2007-11-23
I'm a little concerned about buying this because I have the original Season 8 boxed set and Volume 5 DVD plays very poorly, if at all. It will not play at all on my TV's DVD player and I cannot play the first episode at all on my computer.
I read a review with the original boxed set about this problem and I am wondering if it is occuring with this "Thinpak" set. I feel a little awkward buying the whole season again. There are individual used DVD's of the Voiume 5 CD but I am concerned I would just be buying another lemon.
They've lost Their Zing!

While all of the Star Gate episodes still feature the original cast with the exception of General Hammond who makes limited appearances, but has been re-assigned, the show seems to have lost some of its zip. Most of the episodes take place on earth, while the ones that are off world are lacking the humor that Jack would have had. Jack is now head of Star Gate Command and rarely goes through the gate. However, I would recommend buying season eight if only as a means to begin to get some closure with the team.
