Editorial Review
Undoubtedly the first movie in history to have played in theaters with three different endings (depending on which theater you attended), Clue is a silly whodunit based on the familiar board game featuring Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, and all the other usual suspects. A broadly comic cast play the sundry suspects gathered in a mansion to solve a murder, knowing that one of their numbers is the culprit. Michael McKean, Eileen Brennan, and Tim Curry are the best of the bunch, and the film is as lightweight an experience as a round of the game itself. Directed by Jonathan Lynn (My Cousin Vinny). The video release contains all three endings. --Tom Keogh

Funny "who done it"? with several twists 2008-09-29
If you like the boardgame, this is a must. The characters, are truly "characters" and they'll make you snicker countless times. It's a classic "who done it" fun ride until the end. It has a classic "theater" feel, and the characters are what old "Sherlock Holmes" type films are made of. Neat film with cool performences!

'It's Not Just A Game...Anymore'!!! 2008-09-25
I think Clue: The Movie is really funny and a good adaptation of the classic board game. I love that it all takes place on a dark and stormy night. All the actors did a really good job. Mr. Green, Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, Miss Scarlet, Mrs. White, and Mrs. Peacock all receive a letter to come to Hill House. Wadsworth the Butler greets them and lets them all get to know each other. During dinner, Mr. Boddy shows up and claims he doesn't know what he's doing there. After dinner, Wadsworth lets them all know why they are there; they are all being blackmailed by Mr. Boddy. After they all know, Mr. Boddy gives them weapons to kill Wadsworth with. Little did everyone know, in another room, the very sexy maid, Yvette was recording the conversation. After he turns out the lights, Mr. Boddy is murdered! Throughout the movie, all the guests try to figure out who killed him in which room with which weapon. Who did kill him? If you love murder mysteries, comedy, and sexy maids, you'll love CLUE!!!

Get a clue; get this movie... 2008-09-23
Quite possibly one of the best ensemble pieces ever, `Clue' is one of my favorite comedies of all time. It perfectly captures the essence of the beloved board game in a hilarious romp of whodunits that keeps the audience guessing (and laughing) until the very end.

It's very true that `Clue' could have gone one of two ways. It could have been a very intricate murder mystery (I'm thinking Agatha Christie inspired) or it could have been a fast paced comedy. You guessed it; they went to comedy route, and who can blame them. Taking the standard whodunit and flipping it on its back with joke after joke, laugh after laugh, gag after gag; `Clue' has become a classic comedy that has a special place in the hearts of almost everyone who has seen it.

The film starts with a group of people attending a dinner party. Each guest has been personally invited by the surprise host, asking them to answer only to a codename (Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock ect.). Once they have all arrived they are introduced to Mr. Body, a man who has been blackmailing all of them individually for certain indiscretions. Once the lights are out though, Mr. Body hits the floor and the guests are now in a panic trying to figure out who it was that killed their blackmailer. As the night progresses the body count rises and the panic increases.

Like I said, this is an ensemble piece to conquer all ensemble pieces. Really, each and every actor holds their own and delivers a hilarious performance that elevates the film to classic status.

Christopher Lloyd is hysterical as the horn-dog Professor Plum and Michael McKean is great as the `is he or isn't he' Mr. Green. Martin Mull handles Colonel Mustard with gravitas, making him the bulldog of the pack. He's no where near as funny as the rest of the cast, but he adds a layer of serious intensity to the film. Of the men though, it is Tim Curry that nails it. As Wadsworth, the butler, Curry is hilariously on-point, delivering gag after gag with effortless ease. His final reenactment of the evening's murders is probably the funniest scene in the entire film and his dynamic energy takes the films already comedic tone to a whole new level.

But, in all honesty, this film belongs to the females.

Eileen Brennan, Lesley Ann Warren and Madeline Kahn are definitely the films major players, all three of them devouring their characters whole. Lesley Ann Warren is devilishly sensual as the `Madame' Miss Scarlet, enticing every man that comes in contact with her. Eileen Brennan is utterly hysterical as Mrs. Peacock. Her antics are brilliantly charismatic and her screams are just side splittingly funny. It's Madeline Kahn though, that really owns this movie.

"FLAMES. . .on the SIDE OF MY FACE. . .HEAVING breaths. . ."

Yes, Kahn's line readings are some of the best in the bunch, and her timing and delivery is flawless. She makes Mrs. White the most interesting and most unforgettable face in the film.

So, the verdict; `Clue' is a gem and one that everyone should cherish. Honestly, there are few films this gifted with talent and bursting at the seams with jokes that actually land.

Horror, Suspense, Comedy, and Twists 2008-09-19
This movie did not do well when it was 1st released, but it eventually gathered a cult following. The story is basically this...Mr. Body's butler Wadsworth (Tim Curry), invites several blackmail victims of Mr. Body to supper in hopes of ending Body's blackmail scheme. (Tim Curry also has a personal grudge in that he blames the suicide of his wife on Mr. Body.) To make a long story short, Mr. Body tries to get Tim Curry killed, but things go wrong, and Mr. Body himself is killed. The 6 guests and Tim Curry realize that they have to find out 'who killed Mr Body, and where, and with what' before the police arrive. The movie is obviously based on the popular board game, but what makes it interesting is that we gradually meet people, see weapons, and visit rooms we already know of. (And there are some other characters who come in now and then...A man with car trouble, a cop, and a singing telegram.) For the purpose of finding clues, the group splits up into 4 groups of 2. Some are more reluctant than others, knowing that one of them has to be with the killer, and thus one of them could get killed. (Great suspense!) The Tim Curry / Mrs. White team is especially interesting in that Mrs. White could have murdered her past husbands, and she finds Tim Curry attractive. (Curry may be flattered, but he is understandably nervous: "Mrs. White...no man in his right mind would be alone with you.") Moving on, the characters all seem to make the best of their characters. (Especially Christopher Lloyd as Professor Plum) I don't want to ruin the story for those of you who haven't seen it, but I can say there is a GREAT combination of horror, suspense, and even comedy. (Few movies combine these things well!) I think one great thing about this movie is that often we're not quite sure whether we are watching a horror or a comedy. Most of you know that this movie offers 3 endings. The 1st is my favorite, and my only real complaint is that the 3rd ending doesn't seem consistent with the story. At the VERY LEAST, I would have changed endings 2 and 3 with each other, for a greater twist. But all of that said, this is a great movie if you want some scares and some laughs. Tim Curry is probably best known for his role in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." But if you ask me, this is his better movie.

Underated and Overlooked Movie 2008-09-02
Having intially picked this movie at a great price, I was very pleasently surprised at the quality of the movie.I was first attracted by wondering what a movie version of Clue could be like. Currently I'm on my second viewing and find it better than the first.Unfortunately, this movie was never as popular as some of the other movies in the same decade .It's a hidden gem from 1985. I love the three endings part. I strongly recommend this film to anyone that is looking for something different than today's comedies. And besides at the price currently offered, it's a real steal.

Best movie of all time!!! 2008-08-18

Question? 2008-07-30
Is there a version of this that has all 3 endings in one movie or one that seperates them cause i see there are 2 different listings on amazon for it. id prefer to have one with all 3 endings in one movie.

One of the funniest movies ever made 2008-07-07
The basic plot of "Clue" is exactly the same as that of the board game of the same name. A group of guests are gathered at an old mansion, one of the guests dies and the remaining guests must solve the murder. That is, who killed Mr Boddy, with what weapon and in which room?

Although the film is written as a mystery (and as a mystery story, it's not a bad one), this is a mystery written and directed by Jonathan Lynn (who also wrote "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister"), so that gives you an idea of what you're getting yourself in for. "Clue" is a very funny movie, starring some very funny people, including Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn and Tim Curry, and it never fails to amaze me that this film is not better known. Nevertheless, every time I meet someone who has seen this film, they usually have the same opinion of it as me.

When "Clue" was released in cinemas, back in 1985, different copies of this film were released with different endings, so the ending that you saw would vary depending on which cinema you went to. On home video (where I first saw this film), all three of these endings were included (yes, that's right, the video had three endings - trust me, it works), and in this DVD version, the viewer is given the choice of either seeing the home video "trilogy" ending or watching the film with a randomly selected ending, as in the cinema.

I saw this film for the first time when I was 10, and then, because I liked it so much, watched it again the following day (something which I have only done about two or three times in my entire life). Over the years, I have seen this film a couple of dozen times, and I can pretty much recite the entire script verbatim, and yet I still find myself watching it again and again. If you haven't seen this film already, you really must. Forget what the AFI say, THIS is what should have made the best American comedies of all time list.

"I Didn't Do It!" 2008-06-24
This fun-filled movie is great to watch with family and friends. It's definitely the best movie ,in my opinion, made in that year. You can enjoy three different endings of this movie, which makes it even better. If you like crazy comedy and mysterious murders, this is the movie for you!!!

So underrated 2008-06-18
I love this movie! Saw it a million times at the theater, wore it out on VHS, and now I am in bliss owning it on DVD. The comedy is in the details for me-- watching what they are doing in the background, watching the characters react to each other, so much fun to watch!

I highly recommend you see this. If you wrote it off all those decades ago, give it another chance. You might spot something you missed the first time.
