Crean of Clapton

I had written to say the CD I received (Cream of Clapton) was empty! Someone wrote back to me saying they were re-sending - nothing yet!
A Great Slice Of Clapton
2007-08-24
I have the deepest respect for Eric Clapton. He's an outstanding musician in every sense of the word, and not just on the guitar. Although I would love to get my hands on every single album the man has ever made, I know for a fact that I'll never get around to buying them all. Put together every single band Clapton has been in, plus all of his solo material, and he has TONS of albums. I'd love to get 'em all, but I just don't have the time or money (though I do own his album with Blind Faith, as I'm also a huge Steve Winwood fan). So, this single-disc compilation, "The Cream Of Clapton," is an excellent alternative. Featuring 19 tracks and clocking in at nearly the maximum CD running time of 80 minutes, this is a great little slice of Clapton's music, from his days with Cream to his solo career up to the early 80's. Although it's not a perfect set---no Yardbirds or John Mayall's Bluesbreakers stuff, and no "Lay Down Sally" or anything after 1981---I can't say no to a Clapton disc that has such classics as Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "White Room," Derek & The Dominos' "Layla," and great solo stuff like "After Midnight," "Let It Rain," "I Shot The Sheriff," "Cocaine," and "I Can't Stand It." If you CAN buy all of Clapton's music, more power to you. I don't doubt that there's lots more great music to be found on every single record Clapton has ever played on. But for the casual Eric Clapton fan like myself, "The Cream Of Clapton" is a great choice collection of classic cuts from his mighty-impressive catalog.

I was very happy with my purchase and the CD was excellent! Clapton at his best!
Essential Eric Clapton
2006-11-05
This is definately the best single-disc compilation of Eric Clapton. It covers his best years of work and there's no filler here, just excellent sound-quality songs that truly define Eric Clapton at his best. This is a must-have for his fans, as well as the casual fan. Eric Clapton truly shines on this disc. Very highly-recommended.
Almost there, but should have been 2 disks

Come on - how can anyone try to capture the career and range of Eric Clapton on a single CD? It just cannot be done. But for a single-disk set, trying to keep the price down, it is a pretty good collection.
As for some comments in other reviews - how can you hate Dire Straits? Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton are both superb guitarists - I hope I'm not waiting in vain for the two of them to collaborate on an entire album! If you've ever seem them work together, it is truly an amazing performance. Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits is a must-listen, same as anything by Clapton.
I can rattle off several songs that should have been included -
Can't Find My Way Home
Tales of Brave Ulysses
Bad Love
Motherless Children
The Shape You're In
But the album is what it is - maybe sometime soon we'll get an even more comprehensive collection, but until then...this one IS pretty darn good.
the name says it all

indeed the name says it all,if your only going to buy one clapton cd this is it. it spans his career from 67-81 his best years in my opinon (being to weak before and too soft after)and this includes all his best known tracks from cream, blind faith, the dominoes and his solo career, and they are great tracks all.so for any clapton or classic rock fan this is an essential.
Clapton 101
2008-01-10
This could be called Essential Clapton, as it covers his progress from ex-Yardbird to plain old Clapton, no additions needed (though he always chooses top-notch people to travel with); the one album I missed being represented, of all the terrific ones taken from here, was his great "From The Cradle", an examination of the blues that no Clapton fan should miss. Overall, "The Cream of Clapton" is a faithful survey of all his greats; 'White Room' and 'Sunshine Of Your Love' from the days of Cream; 'Blues Power and 'Let it Rain' from the self-titled Eric Clapton album, which is the album that drew me into his orbit - I still have the vinyl somewhere; the omnipresent 'Layla' and 'Bell Bottom Blues' from his Derek and the Dominos era (he was trying to keep a low pro with the name; small chance, after 'Layla'), and other great hits, 19 in all. He intentionally did not allow the inclusion of 'Tears In Heaven' which has become intensely private for him, and which I can understand; he also never plays it in concert anymore.
This is not an all-encompassing collection, but it certainly hits on many of his best moments. I picked it up on a whim and was not disappointed, other than missing the blues album already mentioned, and in retrospect, that album is one that should stand alone and not be fragmented.
Very good

I wasn't even old enough to enjoy most of the music when it came out. This perpetuates my opinion that you have to look back to find any really good music today.
Classic Clapton

This has a nice selection of Clapton songs from his Cream days through to the best of his solo career. If you like Clapton (and don't already have these tracks) you can't go wrong
Classic Clapton On A Great One Disc Compilation
2007-09-22
Eric Clapton is, without question, one of the most talented musicians of our time. Whether you love him or just like him, everyone should definitely have at least some Clapton in their CD collection. As a casual fan of Mr. Clapton's music, this one disc album containing all his greatest hits gets it just right. The "filler" on his albums is left off while the hits have all been included. "The Cream Of Clapton" is a great overview of a gifted musician. I reccommend it for casual fans like me as well as those who are new to Clapton's music.
