Editorial Review
BC-20 is the mono-only cartridge for the BJC-4000 series and BJC-5500 printers. When placed in the printer, mono print speed increases. For instance, with the BJC-4200 speed increases from 3.4 pages per minute to 4.5ppm in high speed mode. This cartridge is ideal for printing long mono documents as it lasts for approximately 900 pages.

BC-20 Ink Cartridge 2000-05-09
The BC-20 is a good black cartridge that you can refill up to 4 times before you need to replace it. You can use BC-02 refill ink to refill the BC-20 but as with all refills make sure you refill the cartridge when it is half empty. If you wait until it quits printing then it won't last as long

Buy the Canon brand and replace the ink when empty 2004-06-18
I use a Canon MultiPass C-5500. I print a lot of text, and replace or refill my cartridge once ever 2 -3 months. Through trial and error, I find that I save the most money by using the Canon cartridges and replacing the ink with an off-brand ink jet refill system. I have replace a full tank about 2, maybe 3, times, before I feel that the cartridge itself needs to be replaced.

I experimented with different brands of "refurbished" cartridges, which are ink jet cartridges that have been refilled for you. Although the price is tempting, I don't think it is a bargain in the end. They are difficult to refill and they have already been used once or twice, who knows how many times.

I find that most universal refill kits works, and that you don't have to buy a refill kit specially designated for the BC-20. I like Comp USA's, but I've used other ones to much satisfaction.

No production date on package 2001-12-12
I use Cannon BJC 4000 for 7 years now. Mostly for printing of text so I purchase BC20 cartridge average once a year (two University students + as needed for home). I noticed that sometimes they last half of the time they usually do at my pace of printer use.
The problem is that the solvent in the cartridge evaporates over the time even that the cartridge is originally closed. Unfortunatelly (for us - the customer) Cannon does not print the date of manufacture on the package so the only defense is to purchase cartridge in the stores with short shelf life of the product (high turn over of the stock). I found that large office supplies stores (i.e Office Max, Miles Fox) don't sell many cartridges for bubble jet printers because their customer base originates among bussinesses that use mostly laser printers with toner. Therefore cartridges with ink are resting on the shelves long time and they loose ink. It is impossible to determine how much because the manufacturing date is omitted and store personnel is not familar with the evaporation of ink problem. I like the convenience of shopping on line. This is my first purchase of printing cartridge at Amazon but based on my friend's experience and comments of other customers, here, on this page.

GREAT INK FOR A GREAT PRINTER 2001-05-09
I have used many printers over the years, form the wreaching sound of the dot-matric's to the silent but deadly effective laser's of today. I own a cannon bjc2000 for my home and it was a great price for the amount of quality features it has. The way to keep this product lasting is to use original cannon ink. Do not fall into the trap of those refill kits. Sure you'll save money, but at what cost? The cost is damage to your printer possibly from excessive thinning agent amounts. Well this is an awesome price for the amount of prints youll get out of the box!

I HAVE PURCHASED MANY OF YOUR BC-20 CARTRIDGES FOR USE IN MY CANON C2500 PRINTER AND CALCOMP TECHJET 720C PLOTTER WHICH I USE IN MY SURVEYING BUSINESS. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, NEITHER THE CANON PRINTER NOR THE PLOTTER WOULD PRINT OUT ANY INK. I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY BUYING NEW CARTRIDGES (6) FROM OUR LOCAL WAL-MART STORE, WITH NO RESULTS. I CUT OPEN THE LAST BRAND-NEW CARTRIDGE I BOUGHT AFTER IT WOULD NOT WORK IN THE CANON PRINTER, AND THERE WAS NO INK IN IT (JUST A LOT OF SPONGE). I HAVE SINCE PURCHASED INK CARTRIDGES FROM CALCOMP AND THEY WORK FINE. THANKS FOR NOTHING, EXCEPT TO MAKE ME REALIZE WE NEED A HEWLETT-PACKARD PRINTER INSTEAD OF A CANON (WHICH I HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED) AND WE NEED TO DEAL WITH SOME OTHER MANUFACTURER FOR INK CARTRIDGES. IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD LOOK INTO WHY THERE WAS NO INK IN YOUR BC-20 CARTRIDGES.

Great for everyday use! 2000-08-31
I use this as an everyday cartridge, and replace it with the BCI-21 (Color & Black) when I need to do color printing. It works great--lasts forever, and is easy to install in the printer.
