The classic Palm 2001-12-08
This was one of Palm's real groundbreaking handhelds, with it's sleek case and low weight. Still a great handheld but only has 2 MB of memory and lacks the SD slot that the new Palms are being manufactured with. If you just need a calendar and address book, this will do it, but the m100 will do just about the same (...)(with albeit a much smaller screen). The backlight on the Palm V is woeful like the backlights on all Palms, but is not needed too often.

Irreplaceable rechargeable battery wears out after 3 years. 2001-12-04
My Palm V is about 3 years old and the battery stopped recharging. When I called Palm tech-support they were unhelpful and said that I should try resetting the unit. I was told that in order to find out why the unit was not recharging, I should pay $25 to find out what the problem is, or send the unit in for $100 to repair it (hardly worth it when you consider the price of a new unit). Unfortunately, the battery is factory installed and cannot be replaced (except by Palm.) This is either built-in obsolence or sloppy quality control. I am very disappointed.

The Palm V connected organizer: Put your mind at ease 2001-11-07
I am the very satisfied owner of the Palm V connected organizer. I had long wanted a hand held organizer, one that would have both computer interchangeable abilities and one that would be able to perform different applications. Christmas day was a happy one for me last year, not only because of the brimming smiles on my children's faces; but because that is when I received the Palm V as a gift from my Santa (my wife!).

After giving the product and it's instructions a look over, within moments I was on my way and began the charging procedures necessary prior to it's use. This was my only initial disappointment, having to wait for the initial charging that takes 4 hrs. I couldn't wait to tinker with my new toy, and it was a bit annoying. After completing the charge up, I installed the cd that came with the product to familiarize myself with it. The cd is both quite informative and very easy to follow. Then I was ready to begin to learn about my new toy.

Looks can be deceiving when it comes to the appearance of the Palm V. In viewing the device, with it's ultra sleek, thin design; one might come to the conclusion it could be nothing more than your basic address/date book. This little "power packer" (as I like to call it) is simply amazing!

The applications that can be utilized with the Palm V as well as the storage capacities are as follows:

1) Address book: that holds up to 6000 addresses
2) Appointment record: that records up to 3000 appointments
3) E-mail functioning: that can receive up to 200 e-mail messages
4) Memo pad: that can hold up to 1500 memos
5) To Do List: that records up to 1500 to-do items
6) Expense Reports
7) Games
8) Security
9) Calculator

(All storage figures are approximate, and flexible according to the overall storage capacity of 2 MB)

The Palm V also comes complete with the necessary software to facilitate all functions on the organizer. Other items that came with my Palm V were the synchronizing cradle & battery recharger, the handbook, an adapter, a protective cover, and one metal stylus and a spare plastic one.

While the Palm V comes to you with all the pre-programming stated in my epinion, it also has the capability of being able to receive downloads from the internet to expand its functions, or to simply download games to play on this hand held device.

The ease of operation of the Palm V is remarkable. On it's face are are 5 buttons on the metal frame and an area on screen with 4 buttons (to be used with the stylus), as well as an area for information input or free hand graffiti writing. All of these help the user quickly and efficiently operate the Palm V to expedite the tasks at hand. The device also has a back light that can come in rather handy.

Input of information into the Palm V can be done in a number of ways. One can access the keyboard on the device, or use special graffiti free hand writing to input the desired material. The device may also be directly hooked up to your PC and the information typed in with your computer's keyboard.

The greatest thing about the Palm V is the ability to transfer data between the device and your computer. The ability to be able to access e-mail, download information from the internet or your computer, for me is a God send; and in my opinion nothing sort of revolutionary! To process the transference of information, the Palm V needs to be placed into the HotSync cradle. Then the user just presses the HotSync button on the device to perform the HotSync operation. It proves to be completely user friendly as far as the exchange between the organizer and the computer.

Maintaining your organizer requires as little as a few minutes charging a day of the Palm V, by placing it in its cradle. No need to buy batteries, it is self contained with a Lithium ion rechargeable battery. It is so small in size and weighs a mere 4 ounces, it easily is carried in a coat pocket; both comfortably and unnoticed.

My main use for the Palm V is during my business hours. It is always on my person, for me to access at a moment's notice, to jot down things I need to remember (which are many with my bad recall). Whether it be to record an appointment that I have just confirmed with a client, or a note to myself; the Palm V has become an invaluable device; one that has proven to make my day much more pleasant and hassle free. No more need to run to a desk for a paper or pen, or to ask my callers to hold on; I am always ready with my Palm V on hand.

If you do not have any prior experience with a hand held organizer of this kind, and always thought about purchasing one, I would highly recommend the Palm V. Once you have had a device like this, you will never want to be without one. Just like all the modern luxuries in life, what you don't have you do without and don't miss; but what you've had and have no longer, is greatly missed and still desired for easier living. Thank you Palm V for making my life, just a little bit easier!

I never knew how much I needed this toy! 2001-10-18
I love my Palm V! I won it over the internet and now I don't leave home without it! Very simple to use and EXTREMELY useful. I store telephone numbers, my date book, grocery lists, myriads of other lists for work and home, and just yesterday I downloaded a trial copy of SplashPhoto that lets me show a slide show of family pictures on my Palm V. A GREAT electronic toy!!!

It Continues to Live after 6 years!!!!! 2008-03-19
I received my Palm Vx in 2001. It is now March of 2008, and I am still actively using it. I am so very grateful. There have been some scary times when I thought the end had arrived, but I was wrong. The problem ended up being so crazy. A button was stuck. Consequently, the unit would run out of juice and not charge. Once I figured that out, I have been able to revive it without much incident. I have read many of the reviews about the Tungsten E2 and am quite discouraged about buying it. Thus, I will continue to offer life support as long as this Palm Vx allows. It has served me so very well!!

Palm V 2004-04-01
The shipping and receiving of the Palm was adequate. However the back light didn't function. I e mailed the seller about the problem but never received a reply.

Tired Attorney 2002-04-29
I got a Palm V about 2 years ago. My hope was that I could trash my full-to-bursting filo fax with multiple addresses/business cards for my ever-moving family and friends and also take my work calendar and address book on the road thereby avoid the constant stress of not being able to get hold of my secretary to access diary appointments and contact details when away from my desk-top/lap-top.

The touch -screen alignment of the first Palm V I received went out of whack almost immediately making it impossible to "tap" anything in the top half inch of the screen and extremely irritating. I tried a number of times to access the help-desk but who has an hour a day to stay on hold? By the time I finally got through it was about 10 months into my warranty. The chap I spoke to was very pleasant and advised that I return my Palm for a refurbished model. The return policy was easy and I was impressed by the "just put it back in the box it came in, have the courier service pick it up and we'll sort it all out" and hopefull of a successful result.

The refurbished model I later got turned out to have exactly the same problem once I hot-synched it with my desk-top application (leading me to think it was the software and not the actual device). It was a few more weeks before I had time to brave the help-desk again. This time my one year warranty was up so I was told I could either pay $100 to get it fixed (and risk getting the same [bad] system back again) or buy a new one. I decided to put up with the one I had. Unfortunately the "refurbished" model turned out to be even [worse] than the first one as not only was the screen out of whack, this one randomly "fainted" when I took it off its cradle even when fully recharged, i.e., sometimes I would switch it on and five minutes later it would totally run out of steam and freeze up, sometimes I could take it away for a week-end and it was ok. As it always seemed to pass-out and leave me stranded on the business trips, I took to taking a hard-copy of my contact database with me as a back-up. I am now at the point where I print out my entire database and calendar when I am out of the office AND take my filofax to keep the business cards in.

I am still committed to the idea of the Palm and jealous of my friends' functioning models but am wary of shelling out another [item price] for something ultimately less useful than an etcha-sketch.

PalmV Handheld 2002-01-15
I've owned one for two years; it made it possible for me not to travel with my notebook. It sync's to ACT!2000 with more than 1200 names in about 90 seconds. Be sure to download the newest software from Palm and from your contact manager for best results.
The slim design allows you to carry this anywhere. It's never given me any problems.

The worst Ever Experiance with Palm 2001-12-12
Having comfortably used Palm3 , I thought i would go for Palm 5.
In the first 90 days , Palm sent three units , which to my utter astonishment have got different kinds of problems . After one year of purchase of this Palm5 , I am using my old Palm3 . If you want to rely on Palm hand held , Don't go for Palm V.
