You get what you pay for.... 2002-08-28
You would think IBM would put a little more quality into something they put their name on. This camera, is the worst I have ever owned or seen in use. When I could get the buggy program and drivers it came with to work, the image quality stunk. I would not recommend this product to anybody, it's a waste of time and money. Stick to a more reputable company like Logitech.

I've been happy with it 2002-05-14
This isn't any worldbeater, but if you just want to take some vain pictures of yourself and send the odd v-mail -- which is all I do -- this camera should be adequate. If you're looking for a video conferencing beastie, look elsewhere.

The model I have is, evidently, the 33L4890, instead of the '89. I can't imagine there's much difference -- whichever one of IBM's camera's you pick, you won't get much support from Big Blue; it's outsourced to the hodgepodge of hardware and software developers who contributed to the package.

If you don't expect too much, you'll be happy. If you need the damn thing to do as you tell it, spend more money.

Is not the greatest web cam but it work for me. 2002-02-20
When i first turned it on the picture was very dark blury then i figure it out to move the lens the image clear.

You can get something better for less money 2001-12-22
To put it bluntly: This camera is awful. I immediatly returned it after buying it. When I tested it, I waved my hands in front of the thing. Ten seconds later, a 1 fps blur appeared on my screen. I bought a logitech camera for a few dollars less, and it works wonderfully.

Poor quality and unstable - I'm getting rid of mine! 2001-12-11
I plugged the IBM camera into my USB port and installed the software, and...I could not get an image to appear on the screen. After a couple of hours of trouble-shooting I discovered that this camera is not compatible with all USB ports, so you have to use a different driver which doesn't work as well. Choppy, low-quality video. I strongly discourage anyone from buying this product. FYI, this is not an IBM designed/produced product - they simply put their logo on a no name brand which they clearly should have researched more.

Blurry Blurry Blurry Blurry Motion 2005-02-19
The IBM PC Camera is one of those cameras that gives web cameras and video conferencing a bad rap. It hardly qualifies as a "video" web cam because the video produced by this camera is similar to setting a camcorder to 1/8 second shutter speed, which produces very blurred motion. Unless you plan on staying very still--and I mean very still--, you're better of paying more money for a better camera. Even lip motion and quick facial expressions are blurred.

The video is not very flattering at all to the person in front of the camera. The image has a subtle but noticeable pink tint. Skin tones are washed out. These are desirable features in a web cam if you don't want to be seen well.

Furthermore, IBM has discontinued support for this camera. In fact, if you go to the IBM web site and try to search for drivers, you will not find any. I had to use a search engine to search for "IBM PC Camera Support" in order to find the correct web site that still offers the last drivers ever written for this camera in October of 2001. Don't buy this camera. And if you're using one today, do your chat buddies a favor and upgrade.

Don't EVER buy one of these. 2004-02-27
This is possibly the worst "webcam" that has ever existed on this planet. For starters, unless you are using the camera in bright (and I mean solar-flare bright) light, you probably won't even get a recognizable image. Most of the time what you will see on your screen is a black and red mess moving at approximately 2 fps. Two frames every second is obviously way too slow for any kind of video, and the optics in this camera make it unsuitable even for still snapshots.

I originally purchased this cam because it was one of those free-after-rebate deals, but even the sales tax I had to pay was too much for this piece of junk.

If you want a usable webcam, buy a Logitech.

Not worth the money...you could do better! 2003-12-15
I purchased the program origionally without doing my homework. At the time it was an 'ok' camera, but I would never buy another one like this. The reason that I purchased it is due to the 'stitcher' program (for making 360' Quicktime video files)that was bundled with it. ~ At the same time "you get what you pay for". Most people want a high quality camera, but don't feel the $110 (or more) for that technology is worth the price. Even so...it would be nice if these 'low end' cameras would do a better job.

Only Reason I use it, It was Free 2003-06-13
and I want my money back.
A friend of mine gave me this for X-mas and It seems to crash Paltalk all of time. Focus is always an issue and it seems to zoom the picture too much

There are better buys out there 2002-12-02
I received this IBM webcam free when I signed up for broadband with Cox. For FREE it's fine. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay for even the shipping on it. It say's 30 FPS, but it doesn't keep up to even some slow hand clapping. Images are slow and grainy.
