Editorial Review
MAGIC has been banned from the great underground empire of Zork. By edict of the grand inquisitor, the empire has been sealed off and the practice of magic declared punishable by totemization (a very bad thing). Can you save the underground?

Old game yet stillf un 2006-11-03
I was introduced tot he Zork series by my older brother when he installed Z:GI on our computer when it first came out. I had a blast playing it then and I had a blast playing it this time. The one and only complaint i can give is that once you beat the game it isnt that long if you play it again (took me like one night to beat it once I got it again). It is a great nostalgic game though.

Zork! 2006-05-23
This game was much more fun to play that any of the other Zork games.
A lot of silly fantasy humour (similiar to the books of Piers Anthony).

The puzzles are medium in difficulty but a few easy ones and a few hard ones.

Even though the graphics are starting to look dated, I would still recommend people play it at least once.

I Miss Zork!! 2005-11-23
I learned how to play computer games with Zork (I think it was all keyboard driven back then, you had to type) and now seriously miss the [annual] sequels. I thought we'd have an annual Zork tradition to look forward to, sort of like Christmas, every year but it's been almost 10 years now since Grand Inquisitor came out. So sad that Zork no longer rises anew every year.

My Favorite 2005-10-09
This has got to be my favorite game of all time. I'm not a very talented gamer, I usually find that games require a little too much concentration and forthought, ZORK grand inquisitor doesn't have to played that way (though for you serious types I'm sure you could). It's very funny and the cast of characters add to the games greatness. I had already owned this game several years ago and lost the first disk, remembering how much fun it was I had to buy it again, and it was as fun the second time as it was the first. If there is someone out there who doesn't like this game they should be sentenced to totemization by the frobozz electric totemizer.

Cheers,
Jay

P.S. There are some cons; First, on faster machines the panavision is way too fast and extremely touchy (I ran it on an AMD 4000 with a PCI Express 256MB V-Card). Second, as you progress through the game (in the time tunnels) you will find the switching in and out of CD's slightly irratating, but these points are a small price to pay for such a wonderfully absurd game.

Loved it... 2004-12-10
I've played quite a few adventures, and though it's been awhile this one still ranks as my all time favorite. I loved details like the flickering lights in the subway car-- taking the subway to hell, the varying ambience-- fun story, integrated puzzles-- I can't find anything to dislike in this game. Other longtime favorites of mine are "Dark Eye", "Obsidian," "Grim Fandango" and "Of Light and Darkness"-- what they all seem to have in common is a bit of a sense of humor and a taste for the quirky, odd or bizarre...

It's obvious though, that "Grand Inquisitor" was created by a group who understands the adventure genre well-- the game is well stitched together, nonlinear, a consistent and involving storyline, challenging puzzles, and interesting and different locations to explore, and for my money the most important-- it doesn't take itself too seriously (a sense of humor). A really great job has been done on this one....

Clever and creative! 2003-10-24

Good 2003-02-11
This Zork is good, but not as good as Zork Nemesis, I just don't like the complaining lamp in the game it is so annoying, they should have has a feature to be able to turn it off, otherwise this game is good.

A refreshing adventure game 2002-04-29
I played and finished this game a few years ago but remember this
game as one of the most enjoying. Why? because unlike myst it does not require too much concentration and a game should primarily help to relax after a day's work and not be too mind consuming. The graphics were pleasant and on the whole I found it very enjoyable and gratified because it was a game that one did not have to resort to hints to be able to play. On the whole even if not the best of this type of game i strongly recommend and sincerely hope that there will be a sequel

Simply Enchanting 2001-07-19
The title says it all. As soon as I heard the strange yet wonderful music of the underground, I was pulled into this magical world of grues and goblins (trolls, actually) ... The graphics were amazing, and it's still hard to solve some of the puzzles even after I've played it 10 times. The only part of this game I didn't enjoy was the jail puzzle. You must beware of dying in strange and humurous ways, there are interesting spells to find and collect, and I guess that's I can really say about the game. I would indefinetly reccomend both Return to Zork, and Zork Nemesis, which is sadly without humour... This has to be one of the best games I've ever played, and I just hope Activision will make another one.

A must for the classic adventurist! 2001-07-11
~~~
I bought this game over two years ago and it was well worth the money. Time and time again I and my family have enjoyed this rare gem.
It is difficult now to find a decent adventure game based in the classic style of simply point and click, though this game should be setting the standard. The easy control system is part of the key, you can't really get into a game if you need to memorise twenty or so keystroke combinations!
Even if you are unaware with previous "Zork" games, please don't let this put you off. The game itself consists of a very original story line weaved with a large helping of humour and suspense, it can be appreciated by both the beginner and the experienced adventure.
Graphics wise the game delights your senses by feeding your eyes with screen after screen of beautiful graphics and wonderful animated and video sequences.
Do not be suprised if you are to notice a few familiar faces in this game, although you have seen them before, they totally engulf you into the characters they portray.
So yes, I throughly recommend this game, it is one that you'll be sad to complete!
