Stack It Brackets

Just assembled wood racks with two sets of these brackets. Simple, but clever and foolproof. Will update this review after a few years to report on their durability, but they seem well made. The pressure treated 2x4s I used varied somewhat in their dimensions, so I had to lightly plane a couple to fit in the brackets, but this was easy to do. These brackets do the job well and much better than anything I could have built.

Good, but design and instruction flaws

They do what is advertised and make a sturdy rack. Because you cut the wood, you can customize the size exactly to your needs. That's great. The price is an added plus, since you can make a large log rack for about $25, including the lumber.

However, there are a couple of things that prevent a better rating:

1) The holes on each bracket line up with each other. That means that when you pound nails in from each side, the nails hit or come very close. That leads to splitting of the board.

2) The directions don't mention pre-drilling holes. Pre-drilling would probably help the first problem, although still would not solve it. The company should offset the holes a bit to correct this flaw.

Great product

This was very simple to assemble. It took about 10 minutes tops. I added a few decking screws to hold the bottom side 2X4s in place but may not have even needed them. Once I stacked the wood on the rack it tightened up and was very solid. This is used for kindling and what was a mess in the wood shed is now a neat and organized stack. I highly recommend the product - so much I have another set on order and will build another rack as soon as it gets here.

Brackets worked out very well for outdoor stacking of firewood. Used pressure treated 2 x 4s (8 feet long at base) and built the height to 5 feet (only 4 feet is recommended for height). To give added strength I added a 2 x 4 cross piece (from left over scrap) at the top of each end and then added 2 - 8 foot boards on top of the cross pieces. With the top boards the unit is very solid. My wife says the structure looks like a bunk bed.
The addition to the top not only gives the overall structure more strength, but I now have a surface to store kindling on and a tarp will fit over the whole thing more neatly during the winter.

Note: The instructions recommend a cross piece UNDER the bottom span to help support the wood stack. I would make this mandatory, especially since I am building mine 1 foot higher than recommended (wood is very heavy). I am actually thinking of using 2 equally spaced supports under the bottom span in future builds just in case.
If you have spare pressure treated 4 x4s lying around you could use them for the bottom cross pieces in the brackets as well as the span supports. That probably would help extend the life of the structure by raising it farther above ground.

Definitely recommend these brackets. I have ordered 5 more to finish stacking the 3+ cords of wood I have. I really like the flexibility these brackets offer so I can vary the design as needed.

Excellent Product

The product arrived in a timely fashion. I used them to build a log rack and it was very easy to do. The best part is that they are Made in the USA.

This is a great product that is pretty easy to assemble once you have the necessary lumber. It looks great and so far it has held up well.
