Editorial Review
Beneath its sleek, anodized aluminum exterior and elegant leather screen cover is a power-house of an organizer. Palm Vx connected organizer has enough memory to hold everything you want to pack into it - calendar, address book, to do lists, expense items, memos and e-mail messages - plus a host of applications. All instantly available with a tap on the screen. Add business, financial, language and travel, time and expense or custom applications. Or choose from a long list of personal productivity applications - even games - to truly customize your organizer. Want to track your golf scores? You can. The backlit LCD screen lets you see all that information with razor sharp clarity. The long-life rechargeable lithium ion battery lets you take it on the road for weeks at a time without recharging. If you've got plenty to organize and want to do it in style, choose the Palm Vx connected organizer.

Great unit 2004-11-10
I upgraded from a Palm Pilot Pro about 5 years back to a Palm Vx and then again this year to a Tungsten C. The Vx was a very reliable and robust unit (I got the hard case for it which makes it fairly indestructible) and did everything I needed for a long time. The reasons I upgraded were:
- colour screen so I could carry pictures and movies of my family with me, and watch DVD and MPEG movies (Tungsten C quality is fantastic for these). The colour also enhances all the applications, especially DateBk5
- WiFi just in case I needed to get email whilst away - though so far I've not been anywhere without an internet cafe in range !
- expansion slots so I could store and listen to audio MP3s and which alows me to make a complete compressed backup onto the expansion card (so I don't need a laptop with me nowadays as well)
- enogh memory to store DocsToGo, Ultralingua (French dictionary), Handbase and a few other apps which I use heavily

Unless you need/want any of this, the Vx will do the basics very well indeed. However, the Tc is pretty good too so far (and I can sync via WiFi anywhere in my house so the cradle I only need for recharging now) and you will certainly find useful things to do with the extra features and memory.

Old School and Worth Every Penny 2004-09-24
Intro:

You can read all the reviews (there are a lot) to help in making up your mind on the Palm Vx. For this short review, I'm going to just focus the Pros and Cons.

Pros:

- Very Slim (normal wallet size, so you don't need a PDA 'case')
- Very Long Battery Life (1 week)
- Mature Product Platform (reliable, cheap apps, etc...)
- Clear Monochromatic Display in most daylight conditions
- Tons of Applications
- 8MB is plenty of memory for Calendar, Notes, ToDo, Documents to Go (Word, Excel), and a couple of subscriptions from AvantGo
- Easy to find replacement parts
- Inexpensive to Buy and Maintain
- Tons of Accessories
- Bulletproof Metal Casing

Cons:

- Non-Color Screen
- Only 8MB of Memory (not expandable)
- New Applications Have Longer Load Time
- Serial Connection (USB Adapters are Available)
- External Adapters Required for Bluetooth and Wireless Connectivity

Conclusion:

That's my 2 cents. I just purchased another one for $50 after abusing the heck out of my IBM c3 (it's the same unit as the Vx) for 4 years. I could have bargained him down, but 'mint' for $50 is worth every penny. For those interested, I think I paid $350 for the c3 back in 2000. Yes, this model is obsolete, but I'll keep it until there is an inexpensive, small, wallet sized PDA with wireless and a comparable battery life.

I hope you found this helpful.

Good, but keep a paperclip in hand. 2004-04-26
The palm works well and is simple to use and download things. But, this palm crashes alot!

old, but it's still a great PDA! 2003-11-23
while I haven't actually had the palm Vx, I have the IBM Workpad c3, which is the same thing painted black with the IBM logo on it.

I think it's great, and for it's price, it's easily affordable to everybody. it's got 8 MB of memory, which is more than the old zire and the same as the new one. the only things I don't like about it is that there are no expansion slots or earphone jacks.
another thing that sucks is that after a while of being in my pocket(about 1.5 years) the buttons get loose. that might be because of all the subhunt playing, but I'm not sure. the two outside buttons got loose and the datebook one gets wedged into the case a lot. otherwise, I love it.

A great PDA. 2003-04-26
The Palm Vx has a great amount of memory. I have a ton of applications I downloaded off the internet. I still have about 2.3 MB left. It has good graphics, but it doesn't have a color screen. It seems like it is a stable model and does not freeze up a lot. I also have not experienced any problems with the stylus or screen. It doesn't have "Dead Spots" (where the screen won't respond to the stylus.) Another problem is though that it has no expansion port for more memory, applications, and more. But I like it just fine without it. Overall, I think this is a great Palm, but for the color and memory expansion lovers you should try the M130, M515, and Tungsten's.

Still working!! 2008-02-11
I have had my Palm Vx since late 2001. I am still using it today, February 2008. I would love to now upgrade to a color Palm. However, I am very fearful that I will not find another PDA which offers the durability and longevity I've received from my current Palm. I will continue to use my Palm Vx until it dies - permanently. There were times when I thought it had died, but discovered there was a button that was depressed and I didn't know it. That caused the battery to die and be unchargeable. Once I figured out the problem, I depressed the button, recharged the unit, and went back to business as usual. I love my Palm Vx!! Is there anything comparable? If so, please email me at delecia1@cox.net

Shock for lack of disclosure 2006-11-20
I don't appreciate at all the fact that it was NOT disclosed before the purchase that the product was made in China. I thought it was made here.
I will not order ANYMORE from Amazon because of this.

Rock Solid 2006-05-14
I bought my Palm Vx for six dollars at a thrift store a year ago and I've never had a problem with it. I own a IIIxe, an m500, and a Handspring Visor Deluxe, and the Vx and the Visor are my favorites. The 3.5.3 OS on the Vx seems to be rock solid-no crashes or freezes. The construction also is very solid. It was made in the USA, which I suspect is the reason for the high quality. Beware of PDA's made in China! The case on my m500 (made in China) became loose not long after I bought it and when I tried to tighten the screws they just stripped. I also get good battery life on the Vx, about a month per charge. With all the problems I read about concerning the latest generation of Palm PDA's, I can't help but think that Palm peaked with older models like the III series and the Vx. You really can't go wrong with the Vx, especially at today's prices. You'll have a reliable PDA with enough memory to add plenty of applications and it won't cost you an arm and a leg. Tip: if you want the Notepad app on your Vx (or older Palm), download Notes! 1.1 for free at palmgear.com.

Crashed three times 2005-03-10
I don't see why this item is getting good reviews. It's crashed three times, losing everything. Now the battery won't completely charge. I never could get it connected to the computer. Makes me wonder about Palm.

Still worth it 2005-03-07
In 2005, there are a lot of PDA called Pocket PC, but when you look at palm Vx, you will love it. You are able to put it in your suit or handbag and its glass screen provides you a crystal clear writing. I only need a PDA that take care my telephone list, my personal finance and bible reading. I don't need to listen MP3 or watching DVD on the road, and this palm just meet my need. You will love to carry it with you everywhere you go.

I agree that if you have a portable keyboard, you can even type your homework or paper in the library or anywhere in your home.

Personally, I like Palm OS rather than Pocket PC.
