LeapFrog Interactive LeapPad

All 4 of my grandsons have LeapPads and spend hours at a time playing with them. The boys range in age from 3 to 7 and all know how to turn them on, change cartridges and books and the best part, show us and explain to us what they learn! When learning is fun, it proves that anyone can learn more and,
LeapPad is one of those learning tools that helps!
Edutainment at its finest

I have a daughter that will be going into Kindergarten next year. My wife and I bought her a LeapPad system and two software modules for it for Christmas last year thinking it would help her get a bit of a head start before starting school.
While my daughter doesn't play with this on her own, she likes using this software with me or my wife. It seems like she is introducing us to characters she likes and all the things they can do in this software.
By allowing her to "show us around", she has learned quite a bit from the LeapPad system. She seems to have fun with it as a kid, and the fact that she is learning is very satisfying for me as a parent.
I think LeapPad has done a good job here.
A wonderful classroom tool

I recently got a grant for my special ed classroom which I used to purchase 4 LeapPads (green) and 4 My First LeapPads (yellow). I teach students with Multiple Handicaps who have very low reading levels. They just love using these systems each and every day. With the "magic" pen, students play great educational games or read easy stories and are given feedback instantly. A nice thing about this particular LeapPad is that it has a spot to plug in head phones (not included), so kids can work on them independently and without disrupting others working around them. I often include LeapPad time during my centers (while I am working with students in reading groups.) This system has been a life saver for my classroom. The students love them and I do too!
Very good buy

I purchased my second Leap Pad , during xmas time, for my 4 old old. My son used to, and still has the green one, and it works very well. No problems at all in the past 6 yrs. But, i just got the second pink one, for my daughter, as the price was lower during xmas and since she wanted the pink one. Overall, very good buy. She likes the games that the Leap pad books have, and with the wide variety of characters available with Leap Pad books, its really good. My only concern is , now that the basic Leap Pad's price has come down so much [ I bought my first Leap Pad as soon as it came out and I paid $60 for it !!! ] , $ 15 for a book/cartridge seems too much. Hopefully their prices will come down too.
One more important and very impressive thing, the batteries come for a long time too.
Great product but major quality overhaul required

I have now purchased three separate models. My 5 yr old son absolutely adores this toy. He calls it his "Computer" and I was really impressed that he began playing the spelling/decoding game and actually learning how to spell. After a month of the first one, the product failed to turn on. We bought new batteries, followed the trouble shooting directions to no avail. So, we ordered a new model. This one didn't even work the first time we tried to turn it on. We sent that one back and ordered another one. Again, product failed to work on start up. It's a real shame. I would have given this 5 stars if only I thought I could count on the thing to actually work!
Great for kids

My daughter, now seven, is in an advanced reading class. I think part of that reason is we encourage her to read and a big part of that was her using the leappad.
Great educational toy! My child loves it!

My child plays with his leap pad everyday and enjoys it. The toy is educational and has a lot of books to choose from to go with the leap pad. Seems durable enough to save for my other child when he gets bigger. I am very happy with this purchase.
Terrific learning toy with enormous value and replayability.

We travel a lot in an RV and these things are great for long hours on the road. My girls absolutely love them and can play through the same books over and over. They're excellent learning tools, too. My 4 year-old knows all about dinosaurs now and can speak a lot of Spanish phrases, which she learned from these books. My 2 year-old is just starting to be able to actually use these as intended as far as following the prompts and answering the questions and playing the games, but she has also enjoyed playing with it for quite a while before now, just to press the buttons with the pen and see what happens and hear the funny sounds.
They have a lot of popular media titles including Dora, Dr. Seuss, Winnie the Pooh, Toy Story, The Wiggles, Spongebob, Spiderman, etc., but some of my girls' favorite books are the original books created directly for the toy, such as the What Will You Be? book which uses a built-in microphone to do a Mad Libs kind of thing. We've all had a lot of laughs with that one.
Batteries last a surprisingly long time in the machine and the books can be bought at a reasonable price if you search around places like Big Lots and eBay and here on Amazon. We have the MyFirst LeapPad, meant for toddlers, and the regular LeapPad, meant for preschoolers and elementary aged kids. Once my 4 year-old got the regular LeapPad, my 2 year-old had to play the "big girl" LeapPad, too, so we got another one for her and those are mostly the ones they play with now, but both of them still enjoy playing with the MyFirst LeapPad sometimes, too.
Fun and Educational

My daughter has been enjoying this leap pad for a month now. Many leaning levels, with well known charaters (Disney, Pixar, etc.) which enhances her fun while learning. So far this appears to be a great educational tool.
For an quick-learning 3 yr old??

My daughter is turning 3 in April and has out-grown her Little-Touch LeapPad. If I get her started on the Pre-K books with the green original LeapPad will it be too advanced for her? She is quite advanced for her age and picks up fast. I trying to get something that will grow with her.
