Editorial Review
You'll get great results with this Black & Decker heavy-duty Edge Hog landscape edger, one of the easiest-to-use pieces of equipment we've come across. You'll be thrilled with how quickly you can get to work, as assembly takes only a few minutes. This is an electric model, so you'll need an extension cord and an electric outlet handy, but you won't have to deal with gas or oil. And it's so quiet you can edge at any time of day--even early Saturday mornings--without worrying about waking up the neighbors.
We found the Edge Hog has plenty of power in its 2-1/4-horsepower motor for both edging and trenching, and it's easy to switch from one to the other by simply raising or lowering the edge guide. The edger weighs only 12 pounds, which allows for easy transportation and great maneuverability around curved paths, but makes it more difficult to maintain a straight line when you're tackling a lawn that hasn't been edged in a while. If you're digging out quite a bit of dirt along with the edge you're creating, it takes some effort to keep the unit stable.
Undoing a screw toward the front of the edger and raising or lowering its leading wheel easily adjusts the depth of the edge groove you're making along with your edge. The unit can also be adjusted to fit the height of the user more comfortably by changing the angle on the guide handle. The blade requires only a pull of the trigger to start instantly and, unlike many gas models, stops as soon as the trigger is released---an important safety feature.

Great Edger for Small Yards
2008-03-26
Electric edgers have traditionally been the laughing stock of the landscaping world - but this one breaks that tradition. I have been using it for about a year now and it still does a great job. A few notes - Only use it when it is bone dry outside. If you try and use it after watering your lawn or after a rain mud will clump inside the edger and clog it up, resulting in you having to pull out large mud clumps from inside the edger every few feet. I have also found the first edge of the season, or the first time you use it if you haven't ever edged your lawn, can be challenging for you and the edger - but after that this edger can help you maintain your clean edge with ease.
In the end this is an electric edger that requires an electrical cord, so I could only recommend this for personal use on smaller residential lots. However for the average homeowner this is perfect.
Long time user - Happy with edger

I highly recommend this edger. I purchased my electric B&D Edge Hog in 2005 and decided to finally write a review on it.
I have been very satisfied with the product. I use it about 8-10 times a year. I live in Florida and have St. Augustine grass which is a southern species very similar to crabgrass in the northern states. It is tough. Many of the roots grow horizontally on the surface of the soil and creep over pavement edges. Trimming them is a challenge that the B&D edger handles quite well. Some escape the first slice, but backing over them usually wins the battle.
The guide works well for straight stretches of curbing/pavement, but the rounded portions are more of a challenge. Other than a few sparks, it does these with a few back and forth movements. I am still using the original blade, so nothing has been a serious problem. Compared with the manual edgers which you have to push hard and fast, this small electric model is a dream.
I have also used it to dig small trenches when I wanted to install some low pressure plastic pipe for watering a flower garden. The edger dug out a nice little trench that I could push the pipe into and then re-cover with soil and let the grass grow over it.
For the price, this edger is great for smaller, personal use. If I had a large area, I would get a larger, gas powered unit, but with my needs, this has been perfect.

Worked Great

I've been trying to do this edging thing with a trimmer for 2 years now and never got very far. Always thought these edger people were fanatics until I had to shovel snow and realized there was a good reason for doing it. Divorce is such a lovely teacher . . .
Finally broke down and bought this, don't really like the cord, but didn't want to mess with mixing oil and gas, and I guess rechargeables aren't an option for something needing this much power.
Didn't really know what I was doing, though I got the hang of it in the end. I read the instructions but didn't do it for about a month after that. I had to switch the handle to the other side and stand to the right of it so I could see--which I think the instructions probably told me, but I forgot.
Once I got going, it was great. I did my driveway and the sidewalks all around my corner lot. Then I did the neighbors' driveways, which were much more overgrown than mine. Got through most of it, including the strips in between with weeds growing in them. That was the trickiest, a few sparks, well, a lot sometimes. Good thing I bought an extra blade up front :). I'm very satisfied. I could never have done it without this tool. It took much less time than I expected . . . until I hit the nasty neighbor's overgrown mess :).
I recommend this product. Happy edging.

Quiet, powerful, lightweight and easy to use. Does a fantastic job with regular edging; landscape edging is good but not great.

I had never owned an edger until I bought this one. Me and my wife had always used a hole to edge with. Boy waht a difference the edger made. What had been a chore for years turned out to be a short and sweet job to get the edging done and it looks a whole lot better than using a HOE. Thisedger works great and Iam going to use it for my flower beds and plan to use it to dig me a little trench to put in some lighting alon our side walk.
Excellent product for the price.

Although I have only used this tool for a few hours, my impression is that I will get a lot of good use out of it. Even at the end of an 150' extension cord there is plenty of power to handle the toughest jobs I could throw at it. There is no gas to mix, no cranking to mess with - just plug in and go. The adjustments are easy, the guide plate is excellent and I found it very easy to keep the blade away from the sidewalk and driveway.
My daughter also one and she is very pleased with its ease of use and durability.
Total disappointment !

It won't cut the grass, it just crush .. you won't get a fine cut .. it doesn't have enough power too, going for return to HD. Don't waste money ..
