had this unit for 2 years and 2007-10-18
it has been flawless. We use this unit for production insulating and it works great...no misfires...fast as you can pull the trigger runs, and really just flawless. We love the tool...yes I know its not its intended use...but some of the best ideas started out with someone thinking out side the box...after going through a stapler a month on the job sites I decided to try this unit...not a lot of moving parts...and air tool...and it takes a beating....to those looking for a case...I can understand...but really this is the only tool outside of my roofing gun without a case and i have to say...it doesn't need one...no issues except a scratch or two and she is Timex ....

For a Stapler, US58 is Great; Not a Good Phone 2007-10-07
Dont try answering this like a phone; there is no safety. However, if you're not a set up the stapler and run it till its empty kind of person, this one might not be for you...but then again this stapler offers great visibility for where you're sending the staples as well as good balance and a functional nose that helps to pull the fabric/material taught before nailing. Only dry fire after over 1000 staples has been due to it being out of staples. This is probably the most comfortable and precise air tool I've every used. Works great with Makita compressor....80-120 PSI at 4.3cfm .. depending on depth of fabric. Sunk through leather and batting into 3/4" maple no problem. Great staple gun with the most effective staple size for all types of upholstery/tacking work. Solidly built. Would have paid $100.00 more versus other air tools. Why aren't these $150....? If its under $80, don't sweat the small stuff and pick it up. Much better than anything else under $100 that I've tried.

excellent product 2007-10-07
Overall, I am very happy with this stapler. Its power is awesome and the tool seems excellently made. I really wish it had a case that would be the one recommendation I would make, and for it to load this category it only makes sense that there should be a case.

Happy this was included in a combo package 2007-06-28
I received this stapler as part of a Porter-Cable package with multiple other air nailers and and pancake compressor. I didn't think I'd ever need an air stapler. However, I just installed some electric floor heating cables in a new bathroom. I needed someway to attach the heating mats to the hardy board I used for a subfloor before laying the tile. My regular hand stapler didn't work at all, but this air stapler worked great and made the job much quicker and easier. I probably won't ever use it for upholstery, but it already paid for itself.

Pretty good but not great 2007-06-21
This is a pretty good stapler for light use but I would not use it in a production shop. It's works well but misfires A LOT. About 15% to 20% of the time it dry-fires and doesn't place a staple. It's as if it shoots one but doesn't advance the stack. One fellow suggested I oil the staples before I put them in the gun. Yeah, I want to attach silk or brocade with oiled staples! I just shoot it again, sometimes 2 or 3 more times and it goes. Staple length doesn't seem to matter. It's an annoyance but a small one.

And the others are right. You can't buy staples anywhere for it. I have been to dozens of places in Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, and Vancouver and no soap - rather no staples. I got them from Amazon but had to wait of course. A few upholsterers had them but not for sale.

I'll keep it and use it, and even like it but Amazon better keep stock in staples. Also be aware - *THERE IS NO SAFETY* on this unit! You squeeze the trigger, it fires!

Great Stapler 2008-07-09
I used the US58 to hang fabric in my HT room and had no problems with it. I had a hard time finding staples at my local HD, but Menards had them and cheaper than amazon. I have run about 10,000 staples through the gun with no problems. It did not come with a plastic case, not a big deal to me.

Handy 2008-05-16
Nice handy tool to have around the house for certain projects. Have used it for carpeting stairs, doing a small hardwood floor job.

Essential Upholstery Tool 2007-12-29
I couldn't do upholstery projects without this tool. It's light, small, and very simple to use. And the price is right.

Doing serious upholstery? This is the tool you need. 2007-12-03
Great tool at a reasonable price. I bought it because of the Porter Cable brand, and was not disappointed. Shoots various length staples, depending on your needs. Easy to set up, load and use. Compact nose allows use in narrow areas. Low air usage. No jams. Very satisfied.

Good so far. 2007-11-01
I just got this not more then a couple weeks ago (today being 11/1/07), so I don't have much to write. I have had good luck so far with this one. I read in another persons review that the only complaint they had was that it didn't come with it's own case. That would be a problem for sake of keeping dust out of the nipple and all. I resolved this by keeping it in its box for the time being. Since I like making things, I'm making a set of drawers for this and my other nail guns. I'll write more later if I come up with any complaints.
