Editorial Review
Making headlines in the camera market is nothing new for Canon. What is new is the advanced, user-friendly technology built into this state-of-the-art 35mm lens shutter camera. Its sleek, lightweight design belies its wide range of capabilities. Sure Shot 105 Zoom delivers advanced 3x zoom capability at a size and price you would expect from a 2x model. Add crystal clear optical and autofocusing technology, auto flash with red-eye reduction, self-timer, fully automatic film loading and maximum ease of use, and you've got a winner in your hands. There's even a Date Imprint function available on the Sure Shot 105 Zoom Date model to track those memorable pictures. The extremely versatile 38-105mm f / 3.8-9.9 lens delivers optimal contrast and exceptional image sharpness. Subjects can be as near as 2 feet (0,6 m) or as far as infinity. Whatever the distance, the real image zoom viewfinder assures accurate picture composition and subject placement. The Sure Shot 105 Zoom takes the guesswork out of focusing with its 3-point Smart Autofocus System. Now you can shoot through glass and eliminate focusing errors to due foreground objects. You get sharp images every time, even when your subject isn't perfectly centered. Crisp, colorful photographs are a snap with the new Canon Sure Shot 105 Zoom.

Buy something else! 2003-05-27
Had my SureShot for a year, now I have an H on the screen. Does not work, once in a while I can get it off but the Zoom does not work. Garbage!

Flashing H 2002-10-29
I was originally quite pleased with this camera...well mostly...except for the fact that it is hard to catch those "special moments" of my newborn since there is quite a time lapse between clicking and the shot. But now, after having the camera for just over a year, the camera has begun flashing "H" and, even after changing the battery and cleaning the connections (as suggested by Canon), the zoom is still stuck in the extended position and the camera is out-of-operation.

After trying to access Canon's website for information I have found that they do not even list this model in their model history...and access to technical support is not available online for service problems such as this.

When consulting with the various online camera tech sites I was told this is a Canon flaw...and it is not exclusive to the Sure Shot 105 Zoom...as it has been seen in the Elph also.

Guess I'm going digital now...need my cameras to last more than 1-1/2 years!!

Great Little Camera 2002-04-14
Had a cheap Kodak camera before this one .... I saw my aunts pictures used with her canon sure shot 105 and I knew I had to get one! Sharp, clear, beautiful pictures!! The only draw back is waiting between pictures. Can't take rapid pictures one after another. This is a great camera for family pictures which I use it for. Wonderfully priced! Can't go wrong!

I'm here to buy another one for my boyfriend! I LOVE mine!!! 2002-01-10
My first Canon Sure Shot (I don't remember the model #) was purchased in 1980 and lasted until 1998 (that's 18 years, folks!) I loved it and used it constantly. I grew up being THE person who took the pictures of whatever event was taking place (holidays, birthdays, etc.) That camera went EVERYWHERE with me including the beach, numerous cruise vacations, etc. No, you can't take funky dark evening shots, but hey, what do you want for the price???? I purchased MY Canon Sure Shot 105 Zoom in May 1998, one month before I went on a two-week vacation to Sweden. In Sweden I shot 26 rolls of film, all of which came out wonderful. From the ease of film loading to the zoom feature to the self-timing feature to the forced/no flash to the red-eye reduction, as long as you familiarize yourself with what the camera can do, you won't be disappointed. I'm here today to buy the exact same camera for my boyfriend - so he'll stop borrowing mine!! P.S. The only reason I got a new one in 1998 is that I broke the old one when I dropped it from a considerable height and snapped the "door". Other than that, the camera worked fine for those 18 years and I fully expect to get that many years out of this one!!

Disappointed 2002-01-06
Like another review I read, the camera took great pictures but I took it to the beach, and some how sand got in the lens. When I took it to the repair shop to be repaired they said the warranty was void because it doesn't cover sand damaging the lens (although judging from the reviews it seems to happen quite frequently). Secondly, the price to get the camera repaired was almost the price of a brand new camera, so it wasn't even worth it. Thirdly the repair shop advised me never to take it to the beach again, but what is the point in purchasing a camera for vacations if you can't even take pictures on the beach?????

Beautiful photos but.......... 2004-02-29
I love the pictures this camera produces, very clear and vibrant. However, the length of time it takes once you push the button until the picture actually takes is too long, especially if you are trying to capture photos of kids, animals, action, etc. If you are just taking pictures of still things such as flowers, people willing to stand still for a few seconds, etc. the pics come out great. The main thing that has gone wrong with this camera is that after probably only 15 rolls of film, the automatic rewind feature broke, my film got hung up and I had a disaster on my hands. I have to now remember how many pictures are on each roll (ie. 12 or 24, etc.) and when that many are taken I have to use the little button on the bottom to rewind. If I take, say 25 pics, on a 24 count roll, the film hangs up and will not come out and has to be taken to a professional to get it out. I initially loved this camera but because of the slow shutter speed and the rewind breaking, I would not recommend it.

A fantastic camera...until it stops working 2004-02-07
My SureShot 105 provided me with 3 years worth of beautiful photos. Then one day, the camera failed to turn on. The camera was never dropped, shaken, or exposed to moisture, and the battery was new. A camera shop estimated a repair cost of $75.
I lamented my camera's short life until I saw the "made in China" label on the box.

Built to last 2003-07-05
I have had my Sure Shot 105Zoom for aboutt 5 years now and have been extremely happy with it, especially since it has been used and abused in that time. The quirky delay when taking pictures is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. It was weird at first, causing some of my pictures to be blurry or completely messed up... but once I got used to it I never had a problem. I never used the red-eye feature so I can't comment on that. I pretty much always use the green "Auto" selection and have never had red eyes in any of my pictures.

The only reason I am looking around for something new now is that it seems through old age and heavy usage, it's starting to go through batteries pretty quickly. Pictures still turn out great though, and I just have to make sure I have a spare battery in my case. I can't say enough about this camera, it has definately served me well. I'll definately purchase something new in the same "family" of cameras!

When it works, it works great... 2003-06-09
I got this camera as a gift from my parents, and was delighted to find that for what it is, it worked quite well. It's not a $... SLR camera, mind you, but the pictures turned out nicely; very crisp. About a year after I had it, I too got the Flashing "H" of Doom. I followed the instructions in the owner's manual to no avail, fiddled with it, and finally resorted to the internet to find out if other people have had the same problem. From what I've read, it's not worth fixing due to the cost of repairs and the fact that it usually breaks again shortly afterwards. I'm going to save the $...+ it would cost me to repair it and put it towards something nicer.
I would recommend people avoid this camera and purchase something more reliable.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."
