2004-02-11The graphics are up to par with the most modern games, and the 3D camera is great. The units are very very diverse, dispite what that other reviewer said. There are mechs, tanks, helicopters, hover vehicles, anti-grav vehicles, ships, and boats. You can build bridges, dig trenches, build tunnels - what other game lets you do that? This game involves so much strategy - that is to say, there are so many ways of accomplishing your objective. There are many weapons, and shields which protect from energy weapons; non-energy weapons need to be resupplied, which adds an awesome dose of realism - and fun. I love shooting down my friend's resupply planes during a big battle, then taking out the helpless unit. It's tough, though, because the planes are well-armored, and move fast, dropping off the ammo and heading away.
Another feature which is cool is the ability to divide the screen, and keep an eye on multiple locations at once.
Man, nightime in this game is great. Everything gets dark, and your base lights up. All lights - on buildings and vechicles - can be turned on and off at your discretion. With lights off, it's much tougher to see units in the dark; but they move slower.
With the LC, they get power from the sun. At night, they are forced to use batteries. But if your battery runs out, you're screwed till dawn. I've never played a game like that; the scariest thing is to be sitting there, helpless, hoping the enemy doesn't attack. Because you're defenseless. It may seem like it'd be frusterating; but no, it's just scary.
The other two teams have differant power situations, which don't involve the sun.
Man, does this game rock.
And if you haven't already, buy "Firefly - The Complete Series". I swear, you won't regret it. Just search for it here on Amazon.

just wanted to make a note that earth 2150 and moon project also play on windows 2000. A similar game to pick up is empire earth. you will spend plenty of hours multiplayer, or single player it is very challenging, multi tasking at its best, but very enjoyable.
Not that good
2003-03-28
The game is good but the building and all units are the same color and it is hard to tell who is who and what is what. The graphics may look good generally but if you look closely the details on some things are horible! The guys who made that game made the units with diffreent shapes and lines so it make it even harder to see. Units and building are so covered with shapes and lines, that it reminds me of a low budget movie. Also when it is night in the game, You cant see anything! I have a 100% vision my friend and that game is nothing but poop.
you an't seen nothin till you get this

Amazon.com Product DescriptionAfter years of war, Earth lies in ruins. Now, it is plummeting into the sun. Your only chance for survival is to fight your way onto a shuttle to Mars. In a deteriorating landscape with hostile weather conditions, you'll need all your cunning and intelligence to defeat your enemies. You can engage in Internet or LAN matches for up to eight players with the multiplayer mode. An easy-to-use map editor lets you create your own mission map and post it to the Internet for immediate download. Mattel Interactive will also make a steady stream of new maps and other surprises available on the Internet. The completely 3-D landscape demands that you take it into account as you plan your troops' movements. Dynamic weather effects can lay waste to large sections of the territory, and challenging day-and-night cycles will affect your strategy. You'll want to watch the shadows change as the sun rises above the horizon or sinks lower in the sky. Be ready to rethink your strategy as you wage battle on, above, and below the Earth's surface with a full arsenal of aircraft, tanks, robots, ships, and helicopters, or construct your own units from a choice of chassis and weapon systems.
Great graphics, great plot, good gameplay
2001-07-24
The graphics are the ..., the weather effects are tight, and the plot is pretty damn interesting. The campaings are nerve racking and can be annoying, however: build, harvest, kill. well thats what it is suppossed to be it's actually: build, research, build, harvest, research, build, research, harvest, kill, build, research, die, start over, research, research,... research,... research, build, build, be taken over by some weird hacker named NEO, build, harvest, and kill. And then die again.
And then start over again. And this is just one scenario. I dont mean to be talking ..., it's actually a pretty good game for the money, except, i got it for free.
If you've got the money and the technology, buy it. but it isn't worth getting a new computer over.
A GOOD C&C like game

Normaly I don't play ripoff games, but this one defenatly blew my mind! I often play as the United Civilied States (UCS in short). This game kinda reminds me of Total Annihilation almost too. It's 3d graphics are amazing! So a 3DFX card is required.
It's just...depressing
2001-02-19
I bought this game after trying the demo, which seemed pretty neat. However, after playing Ground Control, this game seems constricting, boring and...forgive me...depressing. Allow me to explain.
First, the graphics engine, although good looking, does not allow for full camera freedom. This means that you are limited to a top down view of the battle, unlike the far superior Ground Control where you can look wherever you want to. I personally find this quite limiting, especially considering you can't zoom out far enough to make any sort of real strategy or troop movements easily.
Also, the whole environment of the game, from the music to the seemingly omnipresent fog to the rain to the plot to the night, is just depressing. It doesn't make you WANT to play. I found myself slaving through another boring and overly long mission just to see some new technology, one of the cool parts of the game, and eventually I just gave up and moved on. There are some great lighting and weather effects, but I really don't think the atmosphere is condusive to fun gameplay.
In short: If you're looking for a great, fun, beautiful 3D RTS, buy Ground Control. This game just isn't worth the effort.
Great Concept, Poor Execution
2001-01-22
I love RTS games in general, I recently bought Earth 2150 and have put a good 25 hours into the game. Here is what I think of it: Highs: Great futuristic scenario, cool 3d engine, great weapons. Lows: User interface, software bugs, hard to control units in the heat of battle. The biggest problem with this game is the user interface. Compared to other RTS games such as Age of Kings, or Command and Conquer, this game offers a very awkward and counter-intuitive user interface. The so called Total 3D Warfare loses it's "Wow" factor pretty quickly. It is a decent buy overall, especially with the price cut by a third, but I wouldn't call it one of the greatest real time strategy game around. The designers should take cues from other RTS games on the GUI, then this game will be a contender. Overall, the game's OK, nothing to stay up for.
