Windows Me is a shoddy OS product. 2006-02-08
I made a big mistake when I purchased this piece of junk version OS. It causes my computer to freeze up a lot, The Blue screen of Death is common in Windows Me, and it is very unstable. I would advise anyone who fell victim to this OS to consider purshasing Windows XP Upgrade. XP is a better OS. I'm glad that Support for Windows Me will end on June 30. 2006. It is outdated, and will expose users to security risks. If you happen to have a copy of Me, please throw it away in the garbage and upgrade your computer to a more decent up to date Windows OS like XP and XP Home Upgrade with Service Pack 2.

Good N Bad... 2006-02-07
Ok I know those of U who shout ME sux well U have to know the OS in order to make it work and also there are resourses out there to help U do this. ME is a little finiky, however the bugs all have fixes that have been put on the web sooo. If u have a web connection(Cable or dsl prefered) then save those $$$ on upgrading to XP till U have to. I have all of windows different OS's running on my 8 seperate computers and the hardest 1 in my book is NT4.

Very good compared to Windows 98 2006-01-29
Better than 98. It loads faster and features built-in USB Mass Storage drivers for usb disks. Has System Restore (It works) in case of emergency and Automatic Updates so you don't need to go to Windows Update to check for updates.

Don't even think about paying money for this! Get win2000 if you can't handle xp! 2006-01-06
Do not buy this product, no matter what.

Trust me, I had to administer one of these machines for about three years before I persuaded the user to let me upgrade it to Windows XP.

The difference was night and day. Same exact PC, but now instead of crashing every hour and having to be shut down over night, it will stay up for months on end. It only gets restarted for updates now.

Do yourself a favor and purchase a copy of Windows 2000 at the least. It's the heart and soul that Microsoft built XP around, and it's rock solid. Make certain that you get all the updates from Microsoft (there have been many, many security updates since it was released) and search driverguide.com if you have a piece of hardware that isn't recognized immediately in device manager.

EVIL WINDOWS ME! LOL! 2006-01-05
What ever you do, do not and I mean do not "INSTALL THIS PIECE OF CRAP WINDOWS ME". I had It on my computer and It gives you errors. These errors are from the OS. The OS was not setup properly, Microsoft just rushed through with this OS to get it out to the market. Who ever "UPGRADES TO XP" is stupid. Buy the full version of XP. For example "AN UNTRUSTED PERSON COULD UNINSTALL UPGRADE XP BECAUSE IT'S IN THE Add/Remove PROGRAMS" ME shouldn't even cost 55 bucks, It should be 99 CENTS for this garbage WinME. Even when I bought ME 6 years ago, I couldn't get on the INTERNET! Even when I set it up correctly and I was only 9 years at that time and now im 15! and I can build a computer from scratch! If you buy ME your a dumb person. Id rather buy Windows Media Center or perhaps Windows 2000, Windows 98 SE! But Im telling for the finnal time If you buy ME don't come crying to me because I know what this software can pull and It won't be somthing like "THIS OS ROCKS!!" and your gonna complain in 3 to 8 days saying "OH MY GOD I CAN'T WATCH VIDEO" and then your screwed. PLEASE GET SOMTHING XP BECAUSE I HAD TO HELP PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE AND I HOPE YOU PEOPLE WON'T COME CRYING TO ME

Garbage 2008-05-09
I have this OS on an old laptop and it is truly madning. Not as bad as Vista but this was the start toward Vista's horrible experience. Crashes like there's no tommorw.

MacBook ME 2008-02-14
I am very pleased that Windows ME runs 50% better on my black MacBook than it ever did on my old HP desktop. Microsoft should be embarrassed! It is possible to run this OS better than even XP or Vista but you will need to know how to manually install many of the drivers.

Mark,

the worst version of Windows since Windows 2.0 2006-08-14
Windows Me is basically Windows 98 with a fancy new name to allude to the year it was released (2000)...it was just some PR stunt. As with Windows 98, Windows Me is crash prone...so expect to see one BSoD (Blue Screen of Death) after another. I tried Windows Me back when it was released...I went right back to Windows 98...and since then I have migrated to Linux.

Really, there is no reason to use Windows 98 or Windows Me on ANY computer. If you have to have an OS but don't want Windows XP or the upcoming Windows Vista, then your best best for your Wintel PC is to switch to an easy-to-use Linux distro such as Xandros, Ubuntu/Kubuntu, Linspire, or Freespire.

Don't ever buy this 2006-04-27
For those who says that ME works properly, I would like to know which computer they have. ME is garbage.....I was going crazy everyday, reinstalling the program. I was a master, an expert doing that. An everyday new crash. I bought XP and my life changed, My girlfriend now loves me and everything is different in my life.

Great for those older computers. 2006-04-23
I owned Windows ME from 2000 to 2005 (when I upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition SP2). My computer came with ME pre-installed. Not as stable as Windows XP. Only ever crashes when you don't defrag, spy ware scan, virus scan and reg clean. If you do this daily - weekly. You will be running more stable. I'm not exactly sure why Microsoft released this operating system so close to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. I think it is because of a delay in XP causing ME to be a force release. A bit like a XP Beta. Id recommend it to anyone but if you're looking for that extra piece of stability, performance and not looking for the blue screen of death id recommend XP.

Minimum requirements states:
150MHz PII
32MB Memory
2GB Hard disk

My Recommended Minimum is
700MHz Celeron, 600MHz Pentium III or equivalent
256MB Memory
20GB Hard Disk Drive (5400RPM)

That is also enough power for Windows XP. Although on XP I do recommend 512MB Memory rather than 256mb.
