Epson band-aid 2008-04-25
I took one of the "EPSON STYLUS color 777 model - P230A" printers apart at school and we found a big ink soaked sponge in a trough underneath the path of the ink cartridge. It was completly black from catching the 200 pages worth of ink your talking about missing!!
Its obvious they knew about it and didn't want to redesign their ink delivery system, or they enjoy all the cartridges you guys are buying!!

The ink works fine. It is expensive but I have not found any that were not expensive. I love the fact that it is self-contained (i.e., no spills, no mess - just pop out the old and insert the new).

What You Should Know 2002-04-20
My printer came with my Home Internet Appliance, so I didn't "CHOOSE" it. I think Epson sells their printers at reasonable prices, and then make their money on the cartridges. As everyone else has stated, their cartridges do not print as many pages as promised.

Is there a conspiracy by printer manufacturers? 2002-03-26
I payed [good money] for a Lexmark printer in '98 and got tired of paying [high prices] for ink cartridges that seemed to magically dry out.
So when I saw an Epson printer for [inexpensive] bucks last year, I just decided to get a new printer instead of paying [the high price] for a black and color Lexmark cartridge.

But alas, this Epson cartridge is not that much better. I just had to replace a black cartridge installed last summer with less than 50 pgs. printed on them. The funny thing is the last page printed with the finished cartridge was pretty good. Then next thing you know, the printer status program is telling me that there is no ink left. What's the deal here? There is no way a cartridge low on ink should be able to produce that good of a print, only to say "sorry, you just printed your last page and we have a chip that's goint to send an out-of-ink message to the printer so you can't use it anymore (even if there is ink left) and have to go buy a new cartridge for ...

I miss the dot matrix printer I had when I was a kid. When the ink got faint, I remember trying to find the part of the ribbon that could somehow give me a few more pages. With these cartridges, computer chips inside the cartridge decides when you should go out and get a replacement.

This printer and ink stinks 2002-01-26
I bought the 777i about a year ago and have had to refill the ink about 5 times. I definitely do not get the 300 pages it's supposed to do, more like 40-50. Yes I've tried different ways to get by-but the fact is that this printer and ink stink. I will not be purchasing another printer from the clowns at Epson. I advise you to seriously look at any other brand on the face of the planet.

Do not buy this PRINTER 2001-09-23
The black ink cartridge for the Epson Stylus Color 777

Not bad 2001-09-08
Everyone keeps complaining that the cartridge is expensive and they can't use generic. Sadly, thas becoming the industry standard--you can't blame this one printer. I have to print pages and pages of detailed notes and figures every day and I haven't had to replace the ink more than once so far.

The ink saver setting is very faint; perhaps you should try to set your own ink settings. Don't touch the chip!

300 Pages? I only got around 40 2001-08-04
I tried all the ink saving options I could but I can't get one of these things to last more than 40 to 50 pages. Quality all the way down, fastest settings, lightest ink density, none work.

misleading 2001-05-31
The print is beautiful--but the epson 777 I originally bought developed a problem. I contacted epson - and was sent a remanufactured model (the same). Immediately problems surfaced. I again contacted epson; they sent me a new one. Not too long after I developed the same problem- the printer stop printing. I assumed it was the ink cartridge but they said I should print over 300 pages per cartridge--that is not so. I'm now reduced to buying not only the black ink cartridge but also the color as one doesn't work without the other!! The other thing I didn't appreciate is that I wanted to return this epson for a refund--but I can't find my receipt-no receipt no refund. How was I suppose to know I would have such problems with such a "super printer"? I'm in the market for another printer--any suggestions....

Good ink cartridge but expensive, difficult to find locally 2001-04-18
This ink cartridge does not have a generic brand so it is expensive and very difficult to find locally because the local computer and electronic stores can't keep up with the demand. The claim of printing more than 300 pages/cartridge is not true. I ran out of ink after 110 pages and had a tough time looking for the cartridge and finally found it here. If I only read the previous reviews, I would not have bought this printer.
