Great for home use

I already had a small P-C compressor which I used almost exclusively for airbrushing. Whenever I tried to use any other tools, I found that it was, at best, marginally powerful enough to struggle through the job.
This unit has 2.5x the airflow as the little one and I've yet to find anything that it can't handle. I'm not running a car repair shop, paint shop, or even a construction site, but for home use in the workshop, it's probably the last compressor I'll ever need to buy.
Construction appears solid and the handle attachment is quite solid. I was somewhat disappointed by the completely plastic wheels but I guess for something I'll move only infrequently, it'll sufice. For a job-site tool it wouldn't survive.

Bought this compressor for my son and he loves it. Says it really delivers the power he needs to run his mechanic tools. The condition of the product when delivered was another story. He said there was nothing left of the box and the tank was badly scratched but at least in working order (just missing the rubber feet which he is trying to get now). I had read the reviews stating that the shipping has been a problem but hoped that after all those bad reviews the situation had been corrected....not so lucky.

The unit is as advertised, very satisfied. Greater air delivery specifications than similar Sears units. My second Porter-Cable product and both are high quality. But like so many others, the first one was rejected for shipping damage due to inadequate packaging.
It works, it's small 2007-02-18
Well, it's not hard to design and make a small air compressor. Porter cable offers a nice portable unit here (with wheeled movement). I quickly have outgrown with tank capacity, but that's my fault, not Porter Cable.
My machine is darn loud and for that reason is not 5 stars. Someday, someone with make a quieter motor for these things.
I'm a woodworker and use the compressor for everything from nailing to spray finishing. Do yourself a favor and get a larger tank unit.

Arrived seriously damaged. Replacement arrived out of box and more seriously damaged. Missing parts.Red Paint Chips in what was left of box.Box was retaped w/ Wide Plastic Tape by Shipper.
Do not order this item from Amazon!! They are not capable of shipping it successfully.
I buy a lot of other items from Amazon and am a loyal customer but will never order another large item
How much is this costing Amazon & PorterCable? 2008-02-08
Follow up to below. 4 stars now!
The replacement arrived with a broken air filter and a few dings but I decided to accept it. With a few emails back and forth with Amazon I finally got someone who passed along the bad shipping information to their shipping department. Amazon was always more than willing to send a new compressor but it took a while to get through to them that it was the shipping box problem that needed to be addressed. I hope they will take action and ship future compressor in a stronger container. They couldn't replace the individual part but offered a discount which will quite easily cover the costs of obtaining a new one from Porter Cable.
The compressor runs great, just a tad small for my spray gun but if I wait a minute for the tank to fill I'm ready to go again! Initially the pressure adjust was stuck but once freed it works fine. It is light enough on the wheels that I can still move it up and down the stairs from my basement workshop to the garage.

I'm a longtime Amazon customer and like others I was concerned about the damaged shipments I read about but decided to press ahead thinking by now Amazon would have taken care of the problem. Not so. The carton arrived at my work with torn packaging. I checked inside and found loose parts & the compressor head BADLY dented and the compressor cover bent and sprung off its clips. Immediate return of course but damn the delay!! What is with Amazon & PorterCable? This is annoying customers and costing them money!
1 star for the above but I have no idea what the product is actually like!
air compressor 2007-11-27
I was really hesitant to get this because of all the shipping complaints that other reviewers had mentioned. But it was such a good deal at under $200, so I decided to try it. It arrived in perfect condition from FedEx, but I think that had something to do with the fact that I opted for 2-day shipping rather than standard. Because it wasn't on a truck ride all over the country, it didn't get bounced around as much, so I imagine I lucked out in that respect.
Great product though...nice and easy to move around. I run a remodeling business, and this is a really terrific setup...enough power to run what you need, yet portable. I have a smaller pancake compressor that doesn't quite cut it for everything I do, and this solves that problem more than adequately.
Great compressor for the money 2007-11-10
I found that a lot of reviews noted damage to their compressor when delivered. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because mine came without a scratch. I like this compressors size. Just right for nail guns and enough power for a paint sprayer. I also found that this compressor is quieter than my pancake compressor. And with the free freight, this was actually less expensive than my much smaller and less powerful pancake compressor.
