After using this epilator for 6 months I have mixed feelings about this method of hair removal. My hope in the beginning was to only have to "shave" every 4-6 weeks. Not the case! The hairs on your legs are constantly growing. Even though you have plucked the majority out at once, there will always be strays. I still have to remove hair several times a week. When the hairs grow back, they are lighter and thinner (good) but they tend to break off instead of pull out (bad). Even though I exfoliate my legs several times a week (which makes it very hard to keep a tan), ingrown hair can be a hassle as well. You have to carefully get the hair out with either sharp tweezers or a needle. In the end, even though your legs may LOOK hair free, they still do not feel as smooth to the touch as shaving. So, I still shave for special occasions. As for the pain factor, It did sting the first time, but I have actually started to quite like the feeling (weird huh?).
Better than waxing

This item is great as it really does get those short hairs. If you are a fan of waxing and have hair that is lighter than you will love the ease and convenience. If you are a first time user, do yourself a favor and get waxed first, than keep up w/the Emjoi. Way too painful on "virgin" hair.

ok, so i got this because the majority of the reviews sounded really positive. also, there were women who said they had dark, thick hair that used it too and it worked great.
well, i have very thick, coarse, dark hair and was going to use this for my legs to hopefully save on all the shaving cream and expensive razors i have to go through. i exfoliated and did it and oh my god, it hurt like hell and i had to go over the same area over and over and over and it STILL didn't get a decent amount of my hair out.
i'm thoroughly disappointed and pissed that i wasted my time and went through the pain.

I bought this to get rid of leg hair. After the initial hair removal, great. It was very painful the first time, but worth every penny! I used it on my underarms, hurt like **** but so worth it in the end! No more shaving!!!Make sure you scrub well. Use a tweezer to get bad hairs!!

This is the second epilator I've owned. What a HUGE difference from the last one! Wow, the additional tweezers make all the difference in the world too! I'm done in less than half the time! Great product!

This machine does work well, however there is pain involved. I am the type of women that hates to have any hair anywhere below the eyelashes!!
Day 1, I started on my legs and it took more than an hour for both since I had to get used to the pain. Day 2, I attempted my whole bikini area and lower, (I couldn't do the whole thing though, way too sensitive) I did do my underarms and I am impressed at how smooth they feel. No more day after stubble, that is so noticeable. I never knew how long the hairs are underneath the skin until this machine took them out. I will continue to use this machine regularly. That'll save time. Great product overall!! The pain does go away, just like waxing.
Emjoi Hair Remover 2006-11-14
This is my 2nd time purchasing this item. I bought the first one about 6 years ago and loved it. Like anything else, you can only recharge something so many times before it needs to be replaced -- in the end, I was able to recharge it, but it would only last for about 10 mins and it wasn't very strong. C'est la vie, six years is still a good run! Found a *really* good deal on my second one ($20 less than the first one) and have been enjoying it ever since. For first-time users, it takes a few tries to get used to it (I *don't* recommend using it in the bikini area), but works great and lasts days longer than shaving!

I've used for more than 3 years the older version of Emjoi Hair Remover and I was very happy with it. Almost do not feel any pain, very easy to use.
Same applies for their new version.
Strongly recommend!
