Let me begin by saying that I am the Queen of mowing.....

I have bought and tried so many mowers in the past,from 4 stroke gas weed trimmers, to the "Big Wheel" models( Sears and DR). But never an electric mower. After reading all the reviews on Amazon, I decided to try the Black and Decker electric mulching mower. For a small(less than a quarter acre) fairly flat yard, this baby works!Yeah, no more noisy, gas powered machines to disturb my neighbors! This was an Earth Day gift to myself, and I am very pleased with it. The cord is not too much of a problem, if you stay alert and watch your pattern of mowing.
For the price, it's a great deal.If you want to spend more, the cordless model(battery powered) would be the way to go. But really, how can you go wrong w/ any Black & Decker?!
Start of 3rd season with this mower

This is a great little mower. I replaced a Sears cordless which I loved until I had to start buying new batteries for $100 every year. My neighbor's daughter says it looks like I'm vacuuming the lawn--it's so easy to pull and push with one hand. Highly recommended. I fold over the handle to store in a small space in garage. Oh, I also use the recommended cord size. I'm guessing that those who burn out their motors are using a too narrow gauge cord.
Lightweight for a Lightweight 2008-04-28
For starters, the price of this mower was lowest on Amazon. I never thought I would be buying such a big item online but this deal couldn't be beat. This machine has a powerful motor and so far has done great getting through the first blades of grass of the season which are always so irregular and tough.
It's a workhorse and I recommend buying it before the price goes up.
Surprisinly good (at least so far) 2007-11-04
My gas mower (Yard Machines... never again) fuel system gunked up and/or died after just a few months....carb cleaner or anything simple was of no use) it was Tropical hot and humid KW summer and so at least back yard lawn had not been cut in 6 month. (also no desire to spend rec time back there for same reasons... still had porches an front yard) Had hoped a gas mower would go on sale but never did, and about half of cost of the Yard Machine garbage to fix it... to likely have it happen again.... and HD here doesn't sell electrics, which is REALLY ODD considering how small Key West lawns are and they sell electric ever other kind of yard thing)
On that near back to wild back yard, it took two passes in certain areas but even in mulch configuration not dischargeing anything still chewwed right through tough knee high St Augustine Grass (AKA crab grass) and assorted vine like weeds.
That is an advatage to electric... it always has full torque available.... it only slightly bogged down... where as gas movers (besides the added mechanical complexity) as soon as it drops below ideal RPM for power they die almost instantly.
This is why heavy duty things like 1000's or tons trains and cruise ships are deisel electric, the deisel needs to run at a fixed RPM for peak output... where as the electric drive motors have full torque from start up to max RPM, making it more practible workable and efficient.
Really amazed at what this mower chewed through remarkably quickly. (It would have been comparatively hours with a gas one constantly near or dying/ contantly yanking to restart)
And enough of it that though grass wasn't wet... just mulching it created lots of moisture from the grass itself, yet turned it over after and clean as a whistle, almost like teflon coated, vs again gas ones, partly due to engine heat, cake up grass debris quite a bit, even straight disharge not mulch.
Longevity remains to be seen but potentially KILLER/very heavy load first two uses I am very impressed, it just buzzed right through it.
(Did more more recently (but still over a month or rainy season) hand weed whacked front yard first and then the near wild back yard cooler second day)
Very quiet, no yanking starter at every stop, and despite some other complaints here no trouble with height adjustment staying put or anything else.

I am 110% pleased with this purchase. It's lightweight, easy to use and it makes mowing an easy and quiet job. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who needs a new mower.
B&D electric lawnmower 2008-07-13
This lawnmower fits my needs. I am old and don't have the strength to start my self propelled gas mower. Since the new mower isn't self propelled it takes more effort to push. It cuts---though a narrower path--very well and I like that I can turn it off by releasing the lever. Handy when making U turns, etc. The electric cord takes some getting used to but I do get my lawn cut.

We are very happy with our purchase of this product. It's very simple to use and no gas! As long as you don't mind a chord, you'll love this product.
Black & Decker 18-inch Mulching Mower 2008-06-25
Having opted to buy an electric mower, I believe that I made a good choice. The primary reasons for choosing an electric mower were 1.) I can't tolerate the fumes from gas-powered mowers and 2.)the price of gas keeps going up. Dealing with keeping the power cord away from the blades is a major negative so if you can afford a cordless rechargeable, you may want to consider those. A minor complaint is that the assembly instructions for affixing the handle aren't perfectly clear and the user is left to speculate on whether the 'plastic tabs' are properly inserted. But, overall, I'm very satisfied with a good product at a very reasonable price.

I wanted one for years, great price, works well, like vacuming....goodbye gas smell and hassle...hello happiness. My 78 year old mom runs it , what a wonder..... and the grass grows in wet oregon.... buy one today!
Great little mower 2008-06-22
Good Mower for small jobs. Very quiet, easy to assemble, and disassemble for storage. One cool thing is that there is one lever to adjust the height of all the wheels on the mower
