Basic Bushnell laser rangefinder perfect for bowhunting 2007-05-04
I'm not sure any laser rangefinder would be effective at long ranges, but this one at least is absolutely perfect at close ones. It even works in dim light.

    How would I know, amazon.com won't deliver it!! 2005-03-02
I ordered mine at amazon.com's back in early December. I am still waiting for it. They have delayed it 3 times already. They are telling me now that I might get it come April. At this rate, perhaps I will finally get it before next Christmas! Don't be fooled by their "1-2 days shipping". Sure, it only takes 1-2 days to ship it; after they hold your order for 4 MONTHS. Other than amazon.com, this might be a good product.

Not the best, but you get what you pay for 2005-01-12
I bought this at a local Sporting Goods store for $150 because of the price and brought it to the range. I could range the 50, 100 and 150 signs. I was able to range the 181 yard flag...once only. And the bright yellow 200 yard sign....forget it. I tried until the battery was dying, balanced it against a board and still couldn't hit it. Forget all the other pins. I was able to return it and am waiting for a Nikon with it's First Priority program to go on sale. Maybe good for other uses, but not golf.

    not for golf 2004-03-13
I decided I wanted a range finder when I played golf with my father-in-law. He had the Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 and it worked great. Just point, shoot, and the yardage to the hole was returned promptly every time.

I was really excited when I first got this range finder ...until I got it on the golf course. It is much smaller than the YP1000, but the Sport model's superiority ends there. When you are inside 150 yards, it can range on a flag fine. Any farther than this and it becomes more trouble to use than it's worth. You have to hold it very steady and it takes several seconds for the range to register (if it is going to register at all).

This range finder may work fine for hunting, but if you are going to use it for golf then spend the extra money and get a better model. I am currently looking at the Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour XL 20-2025, but I haven't tried it out yet.

    Rules of golf 2003-08-16
I have been playing golf for 50 yrs. on public (and some private, such as Pebble Beach) courses. Your buyer talked about the "Rules of Golf." First, they have so many rules--most of them stupid-- that the AVERAGE golfer can't possibly follow them. On a crowded public course do you really think you (or ANYONE) can take a ball back and hit another drive. There will already be at least one group "behind" you that you will be hitting into, and one on the tee wondering if you are insane to come back and slow down their game. The "Rules" are stupid enough (ask Craig Statler)for the pro players, but ARE SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR AN AVERAGE PLAYER ON A PUBLIC COURSE. By all means use a range finder if it will help your game. This is especially true if you travel and get a tee time on a course you have never seen before. HOW FAR IS IT TO THE DOG LEG? Don't know. For shame. Get out your range finder and find out what you need to hit. I have played many times where the slightest slow down will get a ball hit into you. I've cured that often if early in the round by taking a 7 iron and hitting the ball horizontally into the woods or water. It is an excellent training device in this era of greedy, uncaring pigs.

Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 2008-05-13
Using this for golf. Pretty decent. It's difficult to aim at the flag but if you're standing on higher ground it's easy to just aim at the hole. Very useful if you want to know how far to carry a bunker/water etc. There were some instances where I couldnt get a yardage reading from it, suspect it's the angle at which the fairway was slanting towards. Not easy to find the yard/meter switch.

Size-wise it's actually smaller than the picture might lead you to believe. Overall good product for the price range.

This product does not lock on to flags over 130 yards with any consistency. I would not recommend this item.

If going to use for GOLF, FORGET IT!! 2007-06-19
Any pin over 166 yards I could not get it to engage.

Great for anchoring your sailboat 2007-06-15
Basically, it works great! We use our rangefinder to judge the distance from our boat to the shore, other boats, and anything else around us. Typical distances are 20 to 200 yards. We bought the cheapest rangefinder we could find because we didn't need accuracy, didn't need long distance, and weren't sure it would be useful to us. Turns out we use it all the time and recommend it to all our sailing friends. We would buy the same unit again, but there are three things about it I would change. First, the unit is about 1/2" too long for the case that came with it -- it fits, but the case doesn't close all the way. Very annoying! Second, sailors tend to measure in feet or meters and this unit measures in yards. It's easy enough to multiply by three, but at the end of a long day when you are trying to figure the dinstances between a rocky point, a mooring bouy, and two other boats, it would be nice to avoid the math... Third, I would add a backlight to the display for use at twighlight and at night -- the unit makes the measurements, you just can't see the crosshairs to aim and can't read the distance until you look at a light.

    get the upgrade 2007-06-10
I went cheap and got the 450 for golf. It's almost useless over 150 yds out. My cart partner had a Pinseeker, and he had no problem shooting traps 275 away. I could not hit the carts ahead of us. The Pinseeker actually shoots the flag, something the 450 can't. Mine's going back.
