Editorial Review
With hot new cosmetics as appealing as it's high-performance features, this new PalmTheater portable DVD players from Panasonic is a hit. The DVD-LV70 features an impressive 7" 16: 9 widescreen LCD monitor and built-in stereo speakers. The player is equipped with S-Video outputs, Dolby Digital and dts output, standard audio/video outs and optical digital audio outputs for convenient connection to a TV and audio system. An easy-to-use, joystick-type control is also featured. This model delivers up to four hours of playback time from a single charge from the included rechargeable battery pack.Nothing brings home the cinema experience like DVD, including the enjoyment of rich, theater-like sound. Even those who don't have the room or the budget for a full-blown home theater audio system can still enjoy superb audio - thanks to the Virtual Surround Sound (VSS) feature. VSS creates a simulated surround sound effect, downmixed from either a 5.1 channel or two-channel Dolby Digital soundtrack, from the stereo speakers of any home audio system. Sometimes a movie's soundtrack can overwhelm a scene and even drown out the dialogue. The Dialogue Enhancer feature conveniently solves this problem by boosting the volume of the center channel - where most of the principal dialogue emanates when playing a Dolby Digital 5.1 disc - by 6 dB, so viewers don't have to strain to hear the actors during a noisy scene. The Cinema Mode feature is sure to be a film aficionados' favorite. When selected, Cinema Mode enhances the picture by reducing glare, softening resolution and improving visibility of details in dark scenes - resulting in a more realistic, cinema-like image. This Panasonic DVD player also features high-speed, five-step Smooth Motion Scan. This feature provides crystal-clear forward and reverse scan, in five speeds. At the highest setting, the unit scans at an incredible 100 times normal speed.

Great for road warriors and travels with kids 2003-05-15
While researching which portbable DVD player to buy, it quickly became apparent that there are two general camps of users.

In one camp are those folks who are looking for a top-notch standalone DVD player that is portable. These people will be using the machine as a substitute for their home DVD player. Things like speaker quality, the remote control functionality and a bunch of bells and whistles matter to these folks.

In the second camp are those, like myself, who want the machine for travel. This means that the features that matter most are portability (i.e., size and weight), battery life, and durability. That's not to say that picture quality doesn't matter, it does. But as long we get to watch a movie or two on our transatlantic flight, without having to dedicate an entire piece of carry on luggage to do it, we don't care about a lot of the bells and whistles.

In this regard, I will report that the unit is great. The picture quality is excellent (at least to my non-videophile eyes). The battery lasted 5 hours, which is about twice what other models (even other Panasonics) last. The unit is much smaller and lighter than many comparable units out there. 2 people can watch a movie comfortably in a car or in a plane. I am extremely happy with the purchase. Speaker quality for me is a non-issue, as I will always be using headphones. With headphones, especially noise-cancelling headphones, the sound is great. So, if you're in the market for one of these puppies and you will be using it for travel and to keep the kids entertained on the way to Grandma's, I stongly recommend this unit.

great product but... 2003-05-06
dvd-lv70 is a great product. picture quality, sound, controls awesome. The only thing that bothered me was the battery. It does not seem to hold its charge. I charged it overnight, went to the airport, got on the plane, about an hour into the movie low battery ,dvd shuts off. It has done this several times, a defect? unknown. Recommend charging battery just prior to long stand alone usage.

A "must have" if you travel 2003-04-09
I finally convinced myself that it was worth it to purchase a portable DVD player. I now do not see how I have lived without it for so long. I average 2 - 3 plane flights each week and this unit, combined with my Bose noise cancelling headsets is the first thing I pack. This unit is very easy to set-up and use. The unit is large enough for viewing, but small enough for easy travel. Using a dual headphone jack allows viewing by 2 people. The battery easily provides 4 - 5 hours of play time. A previous review stated the picture quality was poor. This is definitely not the case with my unit. The picture is crisp and clear and you cannot count the pixels on the screen. This unit is highly recommended, especially for anyone who travels on a regular basis.

Exceeded My Expectations 2003-04-08
I've had my LV-70 now for about 2 years and this is one of those rare electronics products that goes above and beyond.

First, let me say that the viewing experience is excellent, in fact the brightness and clarity of images on the 7" screen are better than on my decent 32" Sony Trinitron and JVC home DVD player. Even though my laptop has a DVD player and a 12" screen, the brightness and resolution are far lower, so my LV-70 is still my preferred portable solution.

Second, the portability is wonderful...I have used my player extensively while traveling and NOTHING makes a long plane trip go by faster. I get about 4 hours out of my battery and even on 10 hour flights, that is about all I want to watch. It is small and lite enough for me to place in my briefcase and take anywhere. Also, though I never watch much of the extras on a DVD at home, I really enjoy them on the road.

Last, it is robust, I have banged mine around quite a bit and despite a number of scratches, it still works perfectly. I even use it on my sailboat frequently and the harsh marine environment has not affected it one bit.

Great piece of equipment 2003-03-28
The panasonic dvd-lv70 is a great little piece of equipment, lightweight, great picture and sound. The reason I only gave it a 4 is that it only contains one jack for headphones. I thought the description that I read said it had two, which I needed.

used over time 2005-05-01
We bought this DVD player back in 2002 and it worked really well for about 1 year it was left in the truck on a warm day and since then it is very testy in what DVD's it will play. And I have cleaned and taken it back to the store (extended warranty) and they said it is fixed. But let me say it will no longer play any of my son's scooby doo movies. But it will play the better quailty movies.

Saved my sanity on a long trip with the kids!! 2004-03-10
This DVD player is THE BEST!! I bought this DVD player after researching all the info I could get my hands on about all brands and sizes of players. I love the one I chose!!! This player lasted through a long car trip (and even down the gravel road to my house) with never once a skip or a problem. I bought a plug-in that goes in the cigarette lighter that I used when the battery ran out. But actually I didn't have to use it much! I also bought a three way headphone splitter so all three of my children could watch from the back seat at once -- and I listened to the radio instead!!! It was heavenly. I would also recommend buying a carrying case that holds the player securely in the car.
Just one note on the sound -- on the freeway the hum of the tires was too loud for my children to hear the sound without headphones. But sound through headphones is amazing!!!! At home we use it without headphones and don't have any problem hearing!!! The picture is great, also. Not a single problem with the clearness and crispness of it! The screen is just the right size, and you soon get so immersed in the movie that you don't even notice it's on a smaller screen!!!! I have a four-door car, but this would work great in a mini-van. The back seat would not have a problem watching the movie -- but you'd have to pipe the sound through the car stereo system so everyone could hear well!!!
Also be informed that this DVD player can't get too hot or too cold, so plan on carrying it with you when you go places -- as it probably should not sit in a parked car in extreme weather!
Love this DVD player!!!

Love this little thing! 2003-07-14
Just used mine on our first trip. Used it on a plane, sitting in bed, and in the car. Got through 3 movies on one charge. That is really the key advantage of this particular player - battery life. I definitely got the 5 hours out of mine. Other 7" players are more like 3 hours. Can easily be watched by 2 people comfortably, e.g. sitting in captain's chairs in a minivan with the player in between the front seats. For car use, we bought an "inverter" which turns the cig lighter into an outlet. Way cheaper than the custom plug.

Excellent, the best must-have and entertaining electronic 2003-06-10
Hi, I am 14 years old. When I first ordered the LV70 I wasn't completely sure of what kind of quality the product had. Anyway, I've always trusted panasonic and when it arrived, I saw it and it was awesome. It is really portable, that is what I wanted. I travel a lot and I sometimes enjoy watching dvds in the car or the plane, where there may be a movie you don't like and prefer to put my own movie, and it is so better than to be carrying a heavy laptop everywhere if the only thing you carry it for, is to watch movies, which is my case. The sound is so cool and everybody near it can hear it, although with headphones is great too. It is really easy to understand how to work it. I recommend buying a case for it, the panasonic case is great for this model. The battery is so long lasting, most portable dvd models have a really short battery life and they are big and heavy, this battery can last from 5 to 8 hours depending on the setting you have the screen on.You can watch a movie from multiple angles and the picture quality is the best. I loved it. It was cheap too. The only inconvinient is that it doesn't come with an adaptor for the car, and the panasonic car adaptor is very expensive, that's why I gave it the 4 stars. But overall, what I can say from this product, is that it is Excellent, the best must-have and entertaining electronic.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! 2003-06-06
I originally attempted to buy a CyberHome portable dvd player from HSN. Because of a shipping snafu I missed out and was terribly disappointed. However, I wanted a reliable portable dvd player so I did my homework and chose the Panasonic-LV70. It was a little pricey for me (...) but I bought it anyway. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the portability, dependability, quality, etc. I had to purchase the headphones and a car adaptor (Cyberhome includes these items with their model) but from comparing the customer reviews of both units, and from what I now know firsthand, I sure made the right decision.
