Awesome Classics, and I can fix the sound problems too!

Those who are experiencing problems running the music correctly in Monkey Island 2 are doing so because of a soundcard incompatibility, as Slackersmurf previously pointed out. However, instead of tinkering with the CMD line of the dos program, I can recommend downloading and installing VDMSound, a free program that's easy to find on google. This nifty little plugin emulates Soundblaster compatibility on ANY soundcard you may have. Once installing it you can simply right-click the DOS game from its folder and select the "run with VDMS" option. I used to have a soundblaster AWE64 card, and since upgrading my computer I'm thrilled to say that VDMSound perfectly matches the tunes and sound effects they way I remember them. This doesn't just work with MI2 either, it has been tested and proven to work with hundreds of classic DOS games. I hope I've helped cure some buyer's remorse for a few people, enjoy the game the way it was meant to be heard!

A must-buy for all TI fans!

This is a truly wonderful pack o' games.Who wouldn't like to see the
humorous exploits of Guybrush as he falls in love with a governor,
meets his father,visits an outhouse cleaner's business,raises his great-great-grandfather from the dead,messes up a diorama,and defeats his main enemies,Kim and Gil.Lots o' humor and puzzles.A must-have!

Im a major MI fan (i spent a lot of time tracking down all the games- had no idea it was on amazon :() Anyway, i'll review one at a time:

1: My first video game. It is witty, charming, and kid appropriate. After playing, i couldnt WAIT to see if they would release other games, and maybe even a movie!

2: A very nice sequel, and while it relates to number one, its ok to play without playing the first.

3: By far my favorite, this is the funniest. The grapics have really evolved, and insult swordfighting is back (you fight like a cow!)

By far one of the best game series ever. I'll go rate 4 now...

These were the best games I've ever played! All three were hilarious with their jokes and puns. I'm only sorry that this item is no longer sold so that other people can't see how Guybrush Threepwood first started.

Monkey 4Ever !!! 2002-12-14
I was just a kid when I played my first adventure game, that game was The Secret of Monkey Island or just Monkey 1. As far as I remember, no other game makes me feel so glad to have a computer ! Since then, I just could not stop to play Monkey Island, so I bought the Monkey 3 and Monkey 4, and finally, after many years, I bought this pearl, the Monkey Island Archives. Monkey is a mix of fun and jokes, and is the only one wich can bring to you the mistery of the Disc 28 and many others ! If you know what I mean, luck you, you are part of the great world of Monkey Island, if you don't, buy it now !

The LucasArts Archive Series lets you follow hero Guybrush Threepwood through his first three adventures on Monkey Island: The Secret of Monkey Island, LeChuck's Revenge: Monkey Island 2, and Curse of Monkey Island.

In this highly anticipated third installment to LucasArts's popular Monkey Island series of graphic adventures, Guybrush Threepwood once again takes up dull blade and rapier wit against the nefarious demon pirate LeChuck. In Curse, Guybrush must save his one true love, Elaine Marley, from turning into the evil pirate's zombie bride. However, hoping to marry Elaine himself, Guybrush unknowingly slips a cursed ring onto her finger, transforming her into a gold statue. He must then find a way to change Elaine back to her beautiful self and stop LeChuck from carrying out his sinister plans. Aye, 'tis a rollicking adventure that is sure to challenge the mind and shiver a few timbers.

Just began playing... 2002-04-08
...but so far this has been a lot of fun. My wife and I have been looking for quality puzzle/adventure games since playing the Myst series- this is a very different sort of game, but wonderfullly playable! Very funny and well done.

Sound Problems 2002-03-16
Newer computers have a hard time running these old DOS games, but there's a simple way to fix it.

For Monkey Island 1, you need to have your cd-rom hooked up to your soundcard. If you can play music cd's from your computer, then you should be able to get sound from monkey island 1.

Monkey Island 2 was not reprogrammed to use the cd soundtracks and you may not hear any sound. You need to copy the contents of the monkey island 2 folder from the cd to your hard drive. Right click on the ms-dos shortcut entitled monkey2 and go to properties. Uncheck the box read-only. Then go to the "program" tab and in the "cmd line" textbox it should say Monkey2.exe. There are three flags you can enter after monkey2.exe: a, r, or i (example: monkey2.exe i). These flags tell the program what soundcard to use. Use "a" if you have an adlib or soundblaster compatible card. "r" if you have a roland sound card. Or "i" for your computer's internal speaker, which sound like beeps when your computer boots up. On my pentium 4 with a soundblaster live! I couldn't get the sound to work with the "a" flag but the "r" flag and "i" flag worked. But on my pentium 3 with a generic soundcard the "a" and "i" flag worked but the "r" flag didn't. Play around and see which one works for you. The music doesn't sound very smooth because your soundcard is only emulating the old soundcards, but at least you can hear that cool monkey island music whilst playing the game.

Also, you can listen to the cd on your cd player. But skip track one, it's the game data.

I(MY PARENTS)BOUGHT ME MY FIRST PC BACK IN 1992(14 YEARS OLD AT THAT TIME). IT WAS A HOT DEAL AT THAT TIME:A 386SX PROCESSOR!!!!!!THE PACKAGE INCLUDED 5 GAMES. ONE OF THEM WAS "THE SECRET OF MONKEY ISLAND", THE FIRST OF THE MONKEY ISLAND'S FROM LUCASFILMS(LUCASARTS BACK THEN)I INSTALLED THAT GAME FIRST AND STARTED IT. IT WAS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 4-5PM.THE NEXT TIME I LOOKED AT MY BEDROOM'S CLOCK THE TIME WAS 11PM!!!!!!!!!!!!!IT WAS AMAZING..!!!
IT IS THE MOST CLEVER AND ADVENTURUS GAME I EVER PLAYED. I REMEMBER HOW I FOUND OUT THAT THE "MONKEY ISLAND 2:LECHUCK'S REVENGE" WAS GOING TO COME OUT AND I COULDN'T WAIT TO GET IT.
I STRONGLY RECCOMMEND THIS GAME FOR ALL THE ADVENTURE-PLAYRES IN THE WORLD. I HAVEN'T BEING AROUND A PC FOR ALMOST 6 YEARS!NOW I FINALLY BOUGHT MY OWN PC AND THE FIRST GAME THAT I BOUGHT FROM AMAZON.COM WAS A BOX COLLECTION OF THE FIRST 3 "MONKEY ISLAND" GAMES. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL I GET THEM IN MY HANDS.GET THEM. THE "MONKEY ISLANDS" ARE THE BEST PC-ADVENTURE GAMES EVER. I GIVE THEM 5-STARS*****.

After all these years, it's STILL around! 2002-02-26
Secret of Monkey Island came out near a decade ago, and it's STILL the same classic it ever was!!

This package comes with all three of the first games to boot, and they truly are a joy to play! Forget smooning over the old graphics. GET OVER IT!!!!! Enjoy it for its humor and charm!! If you can't enjoy it for THAT without overlooking the graphics, then you are S.T.U.P.I.D. beyond comprehension and need to GROW UP.

The Curse of Monkey Island, being the more recent of the three, is more modernized in terms of graphics, along with full voice and music. Remember Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle? Well, maybe you don't. But if you do, you'll definitely see the similarities.

The conversation between Guybrush and Murray the Skull still splits my side even though I've seen it countless times. Murray is by-far the most hilarious character in the game. He's this demonic skull you meet in the beginning of the game that tries *way* too hard to be evil and repulsive.
