Good product for my needs 2003-01-22
The HP Jornada is easy to use and learn. I am already receiving infared contacts and files from my clients. As soon as I learn how to transmit infared files, my work productivity will increase. I do a lot of file sharing and versioning with my colleagues. Getting my calendar synched will be very helpful too. I am a first time buyer of used goods on Amazon - and I am glad I took the chance. Only one disappointment: shipping took much longer than I anticipated (11 days instead of 1-2).

Excellent 2002-12-01
Very good Pocket PC - owned quite a while - never any problems! I love it!

Money Well Spent 2002-06-06
A very good product. Knowing nothing at all about the world of palm pilots and pocket pc's, I started looking into them. Aside from working full time, I was getting ready to go to school and figured I might need a little help keeping myself and my schedule a little more well organized. My first decision...I decided to go with the lince of pocket pcs rather than the palms. From there, it wasn't an easy decision, but after comparing costs, things like memory, the different features, etc. I decided to go with the HP Jornada 548...not one of the newer, but not one of the oldest models either. I've got to say, it was one of the smartest shopping decisions I've ever made. I've owned mine for about 6 months now, and I have absolutely no regrets. Easy start up, easy to sync, and the memory is more than adequate. For someone hesitant about buying a pocket pc, I'd say this is definitely a good buy!

Excellent value - great organizer 2002-05-03
I recently replaced an aging Palm IIIx with the Jornada 548, and what a great choice! I'll start with the two cons I have about the 548 - it's a bit on the bulky and heavy side compared to other Jornadas and PDAs in general. And the record button could be moved down or to the right side, I always seem to mistakenly press it and end up with some muffled sound recordings.

On the positive side (and there are many!), the customizable screens and buttons are fantastic. If you're not happy with the pre-determined buttons on your home menu, then simply change them - really, it's that easy. The MP3 player is relatively simple to figure out and download to, and the sound is ok for a PDA; not top quality, but good enough for voice recordings. The recorder does copy sounds as MP3 files, so it can take up a lot of space (the ease of adding memory is a bonus). The feel of the casing is great, I feel like I could drop this and it would bounce right back (though I haven't performed that stunt quite yet!). It has a nice rubber-ish grip on the side that is quite comfortable to hold. The setup is quick and easy, especially if you sync to 2 different machines.

Overall, this is in my opinion the best PDA you'll find for [the price]. Forget the Palm - go with the Jornada!

Nice product, for the most part 2002-05-02
We inherited one of these from a cousin who had a major hassle with it. The screen kept blinking on and off--just enough to be obnoxious. After hassles with HP he finally got them to replace it entirely (their customer service was helpful, he said). So he gave us the old one. We got it to work for a while, my wife got hooked on it, so I bought her a new one. It works fine. Now I'm considering one after using the blinking one! We mostly love that it synchs with Microsoft Word and Outlook. Proof enough? We like it.

HP Support not there for me. 2006-01-08
I bought my HP 548 in good faith. Paid good money. When it came time to buy a battery, I got shuffled around the planet talking to the folks (support) in India whom were polite but didn't provide any answers. The result was, I was to the forced to buy (on my own) a questionable battery from another source which doesn't work (it seems to be counterfeit). I'm glad Carly is gone from HP.
HP: How about supporting your products from now on ? Only thing is...I won't be among your customers. Ever.

Not so much a review.. as a "What the?" 2005-12-16
in the description for this device, Amazon says
"Date first available at Amazon.com: September 4, 1973"
wow.. I mean, I didn't know Amazon was even around then, let alone using their time machine to beam products from the future to their catalog that shouldn't even exist then..
BRAVO!!

Quick shipment, but now there is a problem w/no response. 2003-10-22
The product was shipped quickly. But now I cannot get the Pocket PC to connect to any PC. I have emailed the seller numerous times about this and they will not respond to me. Amazon is abolutely no help either, they will not do anything to help me. If I ever do get the problem fixed, I will change the bad rating for the seller.

HP Jornada 547/548 2003-02-19
Great PDA, beats out any palm type device by a longshot in capability expandability. Only draw back is ever shrinking selection of aftermarket goodies for it due to the processor.

No Pocket PC 2002 2003-02-03
For its day the 548 was a stunning piece of equipment. I have been a Jornada 548 owner since week 1 of its release. I am disappointed to report, however, that the older Jornada models have been left in the dust by the Compaq-HP merger. Ipaq'ers get an upgrade from the Pocket PC OS to the newer, marginally better Pocket PC 2002 OS. Although the OS is only moderately more useful, it is aesthetically more pleasing and is symbolic of the fact that the 548 will receive little attention or support from HP/Compaq ever again.

Also, the lack of back up batteries is quite a nuisance when you lose all drivers and software because you forgot to recharge the 548. Furthermore, and this may be my error, I never found a car charger for it which would have been useful given the adequate, but not stellar battery life.

I would suggest buying a newer piece of equipment, its worth the dough.
