Editorial Review
The CanoScan N670U scanner is a truly remarkable addition to your home or workplace. Its intelligent, state-of-the-art features save you time, and the unbelievable price can save you money. Its sleek styling looks great on any desktop. And the results you'll achieve are simply spectacular. At just over one inch high, the N670U scanner is one of the smallest flatbed scanners in the world. It's also one of the easiest to set up and use. Connect with just a single USB cable to any compatible Mac or PC - no power cord or bulky transformers are necessary. Then scan, copy or e-mail your images in just one step using the three convenient external buttons. You can even burn complete photos onto CDs with ease. So it's easier than ever to take advantage of this scanner's full capabilities: remarkable 48-bit and 600 x 1200 dpi resolution that gives you over 281-trillion possible colors for richer, more robust scans. The accompanying stand allows you to stand up the N670U scanner to make room on your desk, and still use it to scan at anytime.Canon's advanced Z-Lid Expansion Top will forever change the way you scan bulky items, such as books and magazines. Other scanner covers lift only at an angle and become uneven and awkward when scanning anything that isn't completely flat. The N670U scanner cover includes a special expansion hinge that lifts vertically and lays flat to create the space needed for bulky items, and to help ensure clear scans.

Good software 2008-05-15
Still use this even though I now have an all-in-one printer. The scanning software is wonderful.

My CanoScan has longevity 2007-05-12
I've had my 670U since 2001, and it's given me great service. It takes up very little space(still slimmer than many contemporary scanners), still gives great imaging for a 6 year old scanner, and, with a recent driver update, WINDOWS VISTA COMPATIBLE! This must be the best $[...] or so I spent for a computer peripheral.

Very good basic scanner, but scanning results are variable 2007-04-30
Pro: extremely lightweight - I've carried it on multiple occasions to the Library of Congress to use in research projects there (yes, they allow researchers to use scanners - and digicams too!), low price (I bought mine for $40), easy to use, Canon's specially designed cover that allows you to scan books and other such material much more easily than many other brands, sturdy and durable (I forget how many thousands of pages I've scanned over the last three years or so, but it's still going strong!)

Con: The results of scanning can occasionally be variable, especially if you're using an older OS like Windows 98 (the version of Canon's scanner software for Win98 requires you to calibrate the scanner periodically in order to keep the quality of the scans up). If you're not careful to set things up properly, you can get blurry or crooked scans. To be honest, though, that's a risk I'd say you'd run with just about every scanner. The glass/platen is recessed into the body of the scanner, which some others have complained makes it difficult to impossible to scan oversized items. In point of fact, I don't find this to be a problem, as long as the item in question is smaller than the total scanning field; you can maneuver the original image so as to fit within the scanning area. Also, the WinXP software doesn't seem to be as customizable as the Win98 software.

These are relatively minor shortcomings, though, especially when stacked up against the multiplicity of good things about this scanner. On balance, I really, really like this scanner and, together with the excellent PIXMA 1500 printer I've had since '05, I currently have a very high opinion of Canon PC peripherals. I'm actually even considering buying a second one so that I don't have to remove the current one from my desktop system next time I go to the Library of Congress. :)

Greatest bling for the buck 2003-12-31
Pros: Very small size. Can store vertically with the stand included. Z-lid for bulky scans. Easy to use.

Cons: When looking at the scan on the computer screen sometimes they look horrible, but when printed they look great!! This is the Canon software that is included, not the scanner.

You can't get any better for this price. I wanted an entry level scanner to scan CD covers. This was a perfect choice. I even forgot I have it sometimes because I store is vertically against my monitor so it takes up hardly any space. I love this scanner and it hasn't given me any trouble at all. I love the metallic grey/blue color too!!

Great Scanner 2003-05-08
I've been using this for about 2 years and it's excellent. I use it to scan photos and documents (you can scan a document and edit it on your computer with the bundled software). The quality of scans are superb. You can scan a small picture at high resolution and this scanner will give you a big, clear one. Although I don't use it so much now that I have a digital camera, I'm not selling mine for now cos it's great and it just might come in handy sometimes. Highly recommended.

Great scanner 2003-01-05
This is one of the best scanners for the money. It is very slim, gets it's power from the USB cable so you don't need an extra power cable, and comes with good scanning software. It also produces great scans.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it does not come with any OCR software. I consider OCR software to be essential with any scanner, so you can scan in newspaper articles or whatnot and get the text from it.

Now that's what I call industrial design! 2002-12-02
This scanner is sleek, cheap and scans almost as well as the ...scanners at my office. The designers were almost showing off when they made this thing take its power from the USB port; no power cords! The software interface that comes with it is a little clumsy ...you can't beat this scanner.

The best $80 I ever spent! 2002-11-10
I did some research on scanners and this seemed to be the best one in its price range. It IS. I've scanned about a hundred pictures in the 5 months since I bought it, and haven't had any problems. The detail and color on scanned photos are great. The scanner has definitely paid for itself, as I don't have to buy any more kodak picture cds to be able to email photos to relatives. The scanner comes with photo editing software but I prefer adobe photoshop. I recommend this scanner to everyone.

Excellent value 2002-08-13
Bought this as a replacement for a HP ScanJet 3300C (which never worked despite best efforts of HP techs and myself). Just needed a simple and inexpensive machine to scan a few photographs and the odd document copy. This little machine fits the bill perfectly. It is compact enough to sit atop my computer and it's operation is extremely simple. The test documents I used were a couple of letters, and they were handled really well, quietly, in less than a minute. The supporting software, while not the best, still very usuable and gets my little jobs done with no fuss. For those looking for a decent machine to handle a small to moderate workload, while not spending a small fortune, I would say this machine is eminently suitable for your needs.

For sale: HP ScanJet 3300C, cosmetically perfect, ideal project for the repair enthusiast.
