Skeptical at first...

Boy, before I went and spent this much money on a litter box, I went and read every review I could find. Before reading the reviews, I of course was going to buy the newest, best model of LitterMaid I could find. After reading all the reviews, I settled on this model, the LM900. While it only had a 3/5 review at the time I purchased it, it was by far the best rated. And for good reason.
I gave this product a 5/5 stars because while I've had this product for about a month, I've had no problems with it what so ever! Just make sure you follow the directions and don't overfill the box and use a recommended litter. We switched from Tidy Cats to Scoop Away when we started using the LM. I have a finicky cat so I decided to purchase this item from Amazon.com because I knew I could return it if I could not get him to use it. Well, both of our cats were using the LM900 within 2 days. All we did was set it up in the place of the old litter box (with the old one right next to it) and didn't scoop the old box. Day 1, the cats filled the old box. With it full, they had no choice but to go in the new box. We did away with the old box, no problem! I LOVE the LitterMaid!!
The LM900 keeps the box clean and scooped so I don't have to worry about coming home to a cat-pee stinky box (that would stink up the entire house if I would be gone all day) If a guest comes in with me, I don't worry about the stink at all. Our finicky cat used to go beside the old litter box if it got too full for him. We've only had one instance of that with the LitterMaid and that was when I put the carpet ramp on the front of the box (I got them used to the LM w/o the ramp because the old box didn't have a ramp) so I removed the ramp and we've been fine ever since. I'll just get a piece of carpet to put under the LM since I can't use the ramp.
As far as loudness associated with this box, it's not loud at all - we have a paper shredder that's louder than the LM! We keep the LM in the basement and we can't even hear the LM 'going off' unless we're standing at the top of the steps watching and waiting for it to 'go off'. It's quiet enough that the cats aren't scared of it, they're curious and will run to watch it scoop the mess away!
I've even ordered a Bag-It and Perma-Lid from Amazon.com to use with my LM. It'll cut back on the cost of those little throw-away receptacles. I didn't order the LM with the Bag-It and Perma-Lid together because I wanted to be sure the cats would use the LM to begin with but boy am I glad I gave the LM a shot!!
I'd recommend the LM900 even if you have a picky cat. Give it a chance - we tried the Breeze system before the LM and the cats wouldn't go near it. Not an issue with the LM! Just be sure you get it from a place you won't have an issue with returning it in the rare event your cat refuses to use it.
5 out of 5!!

I read all the reviews for most littermaids of this kind. I tend to be a pessimist when it comes to reviews, but I did find this one to be highly desired. After having this machine for a month I have had nothing but satisfaction from it. I highly recommend the purchase!
Awesome delivery. Came super fast..

This is my fourth Littermaid... They are awesome but only last around 18 month at most. Don't let that stop you from buying this product. I love mine. The best $100 I spend every year on my cat.
Littermaid Pros & Cons

The littermaid LM900 does an ok job of scooping the litter however the product is not terribly well made, the motor is rather weak, and the metal rake sometimes get stuck.
You can expect to have to replace it every year or two. I'm on my third one, and although my expectations of any product are that it should hold up far better than this, I am willing to accept the trade-off of high priced/low value versus bending over and scooping cat litter. Perhaps the manufacturer is betting on just that. New and improved does not always mean better. The prior model with a longer plastic rake actually worked much better and lasted longer. It is almost as if the manufacturer purposely lowered the quality standard of the product. Other similar products do not seem any better. It would be nice to see someone take this concept into a great product and give these guys some competition.
I honestly don't know what to think anymore

My first unit broke after 6 months than littermaid charges you $10.00 for a new one which broke after 1 month so another $10.00 for another and it broke in one month so they charged me $5.00 for the last one that broke about 6 months later. Well I have 4 broken units sitting in my garage.....or so I thought. I ordered a mega unit last night so i figured i would check these units to see what i could salvage from them. Surprisingly 2 of the 4 units are working again!!! so now i have 3 working littermaids. When yours stops working all of a sudden i suggest unpluging and letting them sit for a while before assuming they are dead like i did.
I will see how things go and update this post accordingly.
Long term Litter Maid User LM-900

Ideal for a household with a large cat or more than one cat, this big, self-cleaning litter box eliminates most odors while keeping the litter pleasingly fresh for tabby. It's ingenious in design: a cat entering the box triggers a sensor; the sensor sets a timer that counts off 10 minutes; then a rake runs through the litter, scooping out clumps and depositing them in a plastic container at the box's end; the container is automatically sealed until the next cat visit, when the raking cycle opens the container for another deposit. (Twelve reusable, disposable containers are included, each 13 inches long, 4 inches wide, and 3-1/2 inches deep.) The litter box can be plugged into a wall socket (AC adapter included) or operated on eight D-cell batteries (not included). It comes with a durable carpeted ramp that leads a cat into the box and cleans its paws on the way out. For safety, the rake stops and reverses at the slightest touch if an object gets in the way. If a cat re-enters the box before the initial 10 minutes have elapsed, the timer automatically resets. The litter box is made of hard plastic and measures 29 inches long, 8-7/8 inches high, and 16-3/4 inches wide. For proper operation, it requires premium, clumping litter but does not need as much as a nonautomated litter box of the same size. For cleaning, the litter tray can be detached. Instructions for acclimating a cat to the box are included.

Not worth the effort
2009-06-15
While the obvious benefit of this product is that you do not have to remove the litter for a few days (compared with every or every other day), the effort involved in keeping this product working is not remotely worth it. The rake (part that gets sifts through the litter) constantly gets clumpy regardless of whether you use the recommended kitty litter or not. Refilling the machine with litter is also difficult seeing as it requires a very specific amount to function. Any more than that amount results in your rake being unable to sift through the litter and making failed effort after failed effort.

Compared to other websites this product came with extras and the shipping was paid for and its price was about ten or twenty dollars cheaper.
Great litterbox unless you have multiple cats

This is the second Littermaid automatic I've owned. The first one broke b/c my last cat liked to jump in and out of the box to make the comb go back and forth so the motor finally burnt out. This second one does okay but struggles with 2 large cats. Even with great clumping litter it still gets jammed and has trouble scooping up all of the urine clumps. Overall though it's better than scooping a box every day.
GREAT!

This is a great product. I specifically ordered this LitterMaid product because it is larger and DOES NOT have the newest features or bells and whistles that the one in the pet store has. I purchased the newest one in the pet store and returned it because it didn't work quietly or efficiently. This is my second LitterMaid Self-Cleaning Litter Box - the other one just wore out from years of use.
I recommend this product from LitterMaid!
