Nice extension

I bought the gate extension, along with the gate, because other reviewers needed it for their extra-wide spaces. My doorway was either 36 or 37 inches. The extension was very easy to slide onto the main gate.

Excellent gate, extension works great!

We needed a sturdy gate at the top of our stairs that was pressure mounted because we had to mount it on both sides to our wood balusters. We did tons of research and finally settled on this one. We couldn't be happier with our pick! It is extremely sturdy, doesn't move in the slightest (and we use it ALL day long), and is well built. The hands-free option is an absolute must if you're getting this because you have small children. I can step on the release and nudge the gate open with my knee, so my hands are still securely on my child in my arms. I cannot imagine a child being able to open it because it does take quite a bit of pressure, in fact, our two year tries to step on it and can't budge it. The gate swings nicely in both directions and easily latches back in place. I don't especially like that the bar is underneath, but I also understand that there's no way around it. I will say that at least the designers tried to alleviate the annoyance of the bar by adding in slopping plastic mounds around the bar. They're not great but definitely better than just the bar. We also had to get the extension and it works great. Like other reviewers, I should mention that when you order the extension it's only ONE extension (I think about 5 inches or so), not two separate extensions, which is a little misleading in the description. We were right on the edge of needing another extension but it actually works great with just the one. Also, when you pull it out of the box it appears be bent, but it's made that way and it works once it's in. It's also easy to assemble and install. I highly recommend this gate! We might even get another one for the bottom of the stairs because it works so well.

sturdy extension

This extension was purchased at the same time as the gate. Hallway is 37" wide and extension and gate fit perfectly and sound. Extension is easily attached to gate and once tension knobs are tightened this gate is secure. Since I only used one extension it forces the door of the gate to the left or right. Pick your preference and adjust the tension knobs evenly. I started at the bottom and then finished at the top. Trim boards stand no chance against this gate for the gate and extension have been well thought out to withstand the going ons of a busy house full of kids and dogs.

I bought this extention at the same time as the handsfree gate. My house has 36" doors and the gate alone was too narrow. This extention makes it work, completes the look and keeps the strenght of the gate. If you're planning to use the handsfree gate in a wide door or hallway this is a must have.

Sturdier than ever!!!

We've had the hands free gate for quite a few years now but recently moved into a house with a wider doorway so the gate was not fitting as securely as we'd like. We ordered this & when installed, the gate is very sturdy & now I have no worries that my daughter will fall down the stairs. Highly recommend this product!

Excellent gate!

This gate extension really does work well; it adds about 6 inches to the First Years Hands Free Gate. We had to use a total of two, which we didn't realize when we first bought it (be sure to carefully read all the lengths of the products). Since we got all the parts, though, the gate has been secure and highly easy to use. Definitely recommended!

Great Extension!

This extension fits in perfectly and provided exactly the extra amount we needed. It is just small enough that our cats and dog are unable to fit through the gate, but we also have large cats. Not sure how well this would work if more than one extension is needed.

Good, but measure first

We really enjoy the gates, but one of them came without a set of parts, so we had to order them, which was a pain because Amazon couldn't do it for us. Also, we installed them in a hallway with irregular molding, and it was hard to install them because the height of the molding was exactly the same as the height of the gates. So for smooth walls and regular doors, they work great; if there's anything irregular about your setup, make sure to measure it first.

GREAT PRODUCT, BUT OVERPACKAGED

The gate extensions work perfectly to fit the gate into a wide door, exactly what we needed! The product is great, but Amazon really overpackaged it. First of all, they shipped each extension separately in its own box from the same warehouse. Each unit (36"LX10"WX1"D)was shipped in a HUGE box (40"LX15"WX10"D), mostly filled with packing material (they could have shipped 8-10 units in one box!) C'mon Amazon, in these days of exorbitant gas prices and overflowing landfills, you need to be more mindful of your warehouse packaging. Now I have to recycle all of the huge boxes as well as packing material. Why weren't these shipped together in one appropriate box??? All I can say is I am glad that I didn't have to directly pay for shipping on those two big boxes filled a small amount of product and a lot of nothing else, but I am sure that that cost of overpackaging and overshipping is built into your overall prices.
Product recommended, Amazon deserves a slap on the hands for poor Warehouse packaging!

Works as Promised

I purchased four extenders for my two gates and they were very easy to install and didn't compromise the stability of the gates at all. I think they are a little overpriced. After purchasing two gates plus four extenders I had spent quite a bit of money, but the product really works.
