The Nifty Nineties 2007-04-05
This a great mix of 1990's songs! Lots of great stuff, and none of the fluff!

Where are all the ground breaking Artists!!!!! 2 and a half stars!! im being generous! 2006-06-04
this cd managed to pick out one hit wonder songs. but how about smashing pumpkins, nirvana, or pearl jam even!!!!??? im also a 70's baby so my highlights of high school were goin to irving plaza right after school, to see great bands like stp,nirvana,rage....... these bands made an impact on the 90's era of alternative scene!
i hope someone truly comes together with at least a double cd of nothing but great stuff... until then ill be listening to my old cds.

Basic Memory Lane 2006-05-07
These are really great songs if you remember them or just want some older Alternative rock.
However, how in the world can they make a 90's compilation and not include the band Bush?? Actually, No Doubt was also a radio airwave favorite before they went too R&B.

This compilation is sadly lacking some major moments from the 90's, and a couple of songs on there I vaguely remember hearing, but don't really stand out enough to put them on a CD suming up a decade of great music.

Good Start 2004-10-26
Definately a good start for a 90s collection. Afew that the other review didnt mention as missing that I felt i should point out : Matchbox 20, Third Eye Blind, Incubus, and Fuel. Then the hundreds of bands that nobody remembers...

Sorry 2004-05-30
Sorry, but you can't say "90's Rock" without Green Day... nice try though.

Great start to 90s greatest hits collection, but in complete. 2003-10-26
Excellent cd that is chock full of 90s Alternative hits, but if you think about it, unless you are way too young, there are several songs missing. I was born in 1978 and I think that a 90s collection, just like the 80s stuff, is in need of being made. This cd fills some of the void. Being that I was a child of the early 90s, I miss the songs from about 1991 to 1998. That was before those Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears and at the time when alternative rock was both underground, but also mainstream yet not so mainstream that it became annoying like disco. Instead new artists kept emerging every six months, while most well known artists kept getting bigger. Having said that this CD has a bunch of where are they now bands. You now, the kind that have become forgotten or have split or even have had CD sales fall off. I will go as far as saying that if you turned on a radio in 1995, 1996, or 1997 most of these songs where hits or played by request.
The Spin Doctors is one band I can remember that is no longer around that played catchy tunes. The Toad the Wet Sprocket song was constantly played in 1992. That band became a one hit wonder.
The Gin Blossoms were another band that was forgotten after much success with there CDs: New Miserable Experience and Congratulations...I'm Sorry. The latter CD contained an equally overplayed song just like Hey, Jealousy and that was I'll Follow You Down. The Counting Crows are basically the only band doing well on the play list. Len's Steal My Sunshine is the most recent song from 1999. Mazzy Star was an odd addition. Even I forgot her. Would have put Liz Phair's song Supernova instead or Lisa Leob and the song You'd Say as they were bigger hits. Hootie and the Blowfish are also missing. The biggest and the still hitmakers are definately left out. No Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers , Smashing Pumkins, Creed, Smash Mouth, Green Day, Radiohead, U2, Alice in Chains, Cranberries, Donnas, Luscious Jackson, Beck, Stone Temple Pilots, Sizpence None the Richer, or the hundred other band left out. So this is a start for an alternative CD collection of the late 80s and 90s which would be just like the New Wave stuff from Rhino and not include Pink or Avril Lavigne, God Damm posers! So buy the cd and continue collecting all those great artists of alternative rock. Long live the 90s and 00s. There now you have all I am going to say. Bye, Bye.

The good CD For everyone 2002-12-13
Hi,
I was born in 1986 and have listened to music all my life. After hearing this I found all my long lost songs that I know all the words to but could never remeber the names. I must thank the makers of this CD for bringing back most of the songs I remeber from my Childhood.

Thanks-

Here's what it is... 2002-08-05
Poor, poor Mr. Whippy. What this IS is a compilation CD. A compilation CD of rock bands from the 90's, in point of fact, which - surprising as it may seem - actually did include more bands than just Counting Crows. Yes, we all loved "Mr. Jones." Big hit. Major reason why "August..." went on to sell a gazillion records, and the only reason why it's on this disc. But if all you want is one song? Well...I'm pretty sure that's what singles are for.

As for this compilation, it's decent. It's a pretty broad and rather populist perspective on all that was going on in those weird "explosive" 90's. Sure, stuff is missing. Mr. Whippy cited "Teen Spirit," which is a glaringly obvious omission for anything claiming to be a representation of 90's rock. But there's also no Teenage Fanclub, no Matthew Sweet, no Belly, no Green Day, no Breeders, no R.E.M., no Radiohead, no Beck, no Cracker, no "grunge" to be had at all (some would argue that's a good thing)...the list goes and goes. But such is the case with comp CDs. Logistics are involved with labels and rights and whatever else... I'm sure the powers behind this had a wonderful, great big long list of stuff they wanted on here, but just couldn't get the rights to add.

So all in all, you're left with just an average representation of the more mainstream end of the spectrum of 90's rock, which all in all isn't such a bad thing. Chances are, if you're even considering a purchase like this, it's because you already have some of this stuff and you'd just like one handy disc on which to enjoy it all. So you're already aware of its attributes and its shortcomings and you're cool with it. However, if you're looking for a more accurate account of what was going on then, well I'm sure there's a huge 15 CD box set somewhere with your name on it.

Oh, but...at what point in history did Len become a ROCK band?

Wasn't there more women in the 90's? 2002-05-31
This was an okay album but they could have added a few more women- you would have thought this album was 50's Rock. I bought it for two songs - Mother and Brick - but after that it is full of a lot of one hit wonders.
