Niece Loves It
2007-01-31
I bought this as a gift for my niece when she turned 4 and purchased it again this year. Her mom says that when it comes in the mail, she wants to do the entire magazine right away-"she can't go to bed until she does her homework". Both my niece and her mom enjoy this magazine tremendously-especially the Arthur pages!
Great to grow!

My 3 year old daughter loves this magazine and so do I! It features her favorite characters from PBS, Disney, and others totally commercial free. I expect this one to grow with her as well. Some of the activities are just right and some are a bit above her and we do them together or save until she's ready. She certainly won't outgrow this magazine before her subscription runs out!!
This is perfect for my 2 year old

I was in the local library and saw this magazine so I checked out several issues to read to my daughter. This morning, right after breakfast, she is going through the magazine on her own! She remembered the games that we played and replaying them on her own, she was going over the stories we read and telling me about them, and she was trying to follow the maze on her own.
Although some of the games in the workbook section is a bit beyond her (tracing the letters - she can't draw a straight line yet), it's perfect for her to grow into for years to come. I'll just pack away the older issues and bring them out again when she is ready.
I'm actually having trouble trying to pull her away from the magazine (they are from the library) - that is a great sign. She sees me reading and looking at my own magazine so this is great that there is something that is created specifically for her.

This is not full of ads although it is full of tv characters and that in and of itself is an ad. However, it is educational with cute activities that are easily appropriate for ages 2 and up.
There are short stories, matching pictures, what's wrong pictures, what's different pictures, poems etc. It is filled with bright colors and parental tips on how to use this magazine to teach.
I was very impressed with this magazine and would renew the subscription to it. Well worth the money. Enjoy.

We had this for my granddaughter when she was little and we sent in one of her pictures, here it is a year and a half later and they are going to use it! If any of you get this it will be in the March April issue. Would you consider sending me that page after your child is through with that issue? I can't find a place where I can order just a couple copies of that issue. If you find an address to send for back issues would you please email me. cindyleet@gci.net

How do you explain to a grandchild why their magazine didn't show up. This is a ripoff.

My 4 year old loves this magazine! The activities are geared toward him learning his numbers, cutting with scissors, etc. Getting it in the mail is very cool too.
Shill for TV shows
2007-10-22
This magazine consists of little more than advertisements (disguised as content) for television shows (Barney, Arthur, Curious George, Bob the Builder, etc). Our parental intent is not to instill television viewing as a primary attraction for our children (2 & 3 1/2 years) so our family did not get much out of this magazine.
We find that Highlights High Five is a much higher-quality magazine for our pre-schoolers.
3 year old son loves this

My 3 year old son loves this magazine and we wish that it came more often! When it arrives, my son wants to immediately sit down and read it cover to cover! We then read it again, cover to cover! Each issue has activities and stories about all of his favorite television characters. There is also generally a fun recipe as well as age appropriate skills to practice. It really makes him feel good to receive mail and he gets so excited when, after several days of opening the mailbox, his Preschool Playroom magazine has finally arrived. I do wish that the paper was a little more sturdy as it gets pretty beat up after a few days of reading.
felt like one big advertisement...

When we ordered this mag I knew it would be very "character" oriented, but I just had no idea how much. Maybe its better for bigger kids. For my 3 1/2 year old its way too busy, way too jumbled and way too much about loving the characters. Some fun games. Colorful. Its okay, but its definately not our favorite.
