SO HAPPY I FOUND ONE OF THESE AGAIN

Bissell stopped making these, I used mine for over 12 years, it was the best ever but I didnt know it I was spoiled with it, once I got a new vacuum I was dismayed, it was terrible I wanted this one back!! I am so happy I found one here at amazon.com I paid a lot for it more then I should have but I know this is a great machine! So its worth another 12 plus years! I got it and bags at www allfix.biz so happy with all of my stuff, nice people too!
Excellent cleaning ability but much noisier than a cannister - caught fire two years later!

I bought this vacuum in March 2002 in an attempt to find the best of both worlds - my husband prefers an upright, I prefer a cannister. The vacuum does an excellent job in cleaning. I especially appreciate the filtration of the bags and the filter. The air in the house does not smell or feel dusty after vacuuming as it did with all of our other vacuums and the house stays cleaner longer. This vacuum is extremely noisy compared to my old Eureka cannister. My husband says it is quieter than most uprights and that I find it noisy because I'm used to a cannister model. With an upright, the motor is in front of me, so I hear the roar all the time. With the cannister, the motor was several feet behind me when I cleaned. Even in Lift Off mode, the loud motor is always next to me. My compromise is to wear those foam ear plugs to buffer the sound while cleaning. I am not able to vaccum underneath the furniture as well with this Lift Off model because it has a higher profile than the powerhead on my old cannister. Overall we are happy with our purchase and feel that this is a good value. Would I buy this model again? Probably not. When this one wears out I'll look for a cannister model with the filtrete clean air technology (or similar).
***update***
This vacuum cleaner caught fire and started spewing smoke after 2 1/2 years of use. I would have needed to pay for the shipping to have it repaired under the warranty. The shipping costs were almost as much as the vacuum. We threw it out and bought a Miele. What a difference!

I liked my first cannister/upright Bissel vacuum so much that I purchased a second one. This is the best vacuum, for the home, on the market. Believe me, I have tried them all. The bags are expensive but the vacuum is so good that I tolerate the price of the bags, plus the cost of the vacuum is very inexpensive considering the quality. A very nice feature is the long cord. You can plug it in and vacuum several rooms without having to unplug, then plug in again. It is a quiet vacuum, has wonderful suction, snaps apart easily for the cannister so you can vacuum the stairs, and is very durable. My older one is about ten years old and just as good as the day I got it. My second one is one year old and I am sure it will last many years.

I used couple of similarly priced vacuums over the last 5 years and this one is to keep until it lasts. I've been using it for almost 3 years now and had not a single problem.
Pros
1. Less Sound
2. Adjusts automatically very well when you move from hard floors to carpeted areas.
3. Detachable Canister is very light and is so convenient to carry around stairs and to clean blinds, etc.
4. White color makes it look pleasant and neat and the filter system is a plus.
Cons
1. Very Very Very very hard to find replacement bags and filters in [local stores].
I loaded on bags from amazon just to make sure I will not have problem finding them in future. Same with filters.

This two-in-one machine not only vacuums carpets as an upright it also converts to a canister vacuum for conveniently cleaning stairs, chairs, auto interiors, and hard-to-reach areas. Converting from upright to canister is as simple as opening a latch and lifting the canister off the machine's chassis. Key to the conversion is a self-retracting, 5-foot stretch hose that funnels dirt into the canister whether the canister is attached to the chassis or unattached and operating with one of the three onboard tools--upholstery nozzle, dusting brush, and crevice tool--fitted onto the hose's end. I had the Bissell Lift-off and i loved it, it did everything i needed to do and even more. I want to get IT again, i do miss it, and i cant find one even close to that it had so much power and easy to use detachments,

I think your bissell upright lift-off vacuum is wonderful, I love the convinace of the lift-off part. It makes cleaning my car easy and cleaning my stairs just as easy. please dont stop making this type of vacuum. I cant believe someone else has'ent picked up on this lift-off Idea I think its great. keep up with the smart Ideas. My old one broke so Im buying a new one.[The Bissell lift-off up-right again.]

Very Pleased 2002-03-14
I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but I am so pleased with this vacuum that I had to let everyone know. It is very powerful and picks up all the cat hair in my house with ease. The cord is so long that I can vacuum my whole house and only have to unplug it and change electrical outlets once. An added bonus is that it converts into a portable vacuum that I use to clean out my car. It has certainly exceeded my expectations, and I am a very happy customer.
