The beat printer ever!!!!! 2001-12-07

Good printer with bells and whistles 2001-12-05
Anyone who buys electronics without researching is setting themselves for dissapointment. After doing some poking around, this printer fit me. There are good non-biased reports (cnet.com and pcmagazine.com to name two) recently profiling printers. ultimately, play around with the printer before buying. Despite what everyone tells you, this is not dye sublimation and not studio/ lab quality. It produces excellent but slightly ( I do emphasize slightly) noticeable pixelated pictures. I am using a Canon Powershot G2 camera with a tripod and flash arm ( compatability of components are important) and compared a photo from the printer to a lab and a photo studio. Remember this is an opinion, not fact.
Amongst inkjet printers, it produces nice pictures at a good price (...). It is slow but quicker than dropping film off at a one hour photo shop.
Before you buy, take your flash media card... and print a couple photos at C*** US* or other place and compare. Then buy from Amazon.

This is a Breakthrough Product 2001-12-03
Last year I bought my wife a computer and an excellent Epson printer and tried to help her learn enough to process pics from our digicam -- frustation and failure! Saw 1315 specs, was hopeful, received it yesterday -- she's giggling and printing right now! Procedure: Insert flashcard (or memory stick or microdive), push MENU, select "Proof Sheet", out comes however many pages are required, 35 thumbnails per page labeled with sequence numbers and file names. Load 4x6 paper into separate tray, select image, crop, adjust brightness, specify how many, push PRINT. No computer required!

Great printer if you have a digital camera 2001-11-29
Just got this, and with my new Olympus C4040 4.1 megapixel camera, it makes some AWESOME printers. 8x10's are no problem for this baby, and they look like photo enlargements.
Speed is very impressive, the fastest photo printing I've seen. Black text looks great too, even at 17ppm.
The coolest feature of this printer, however, is that it can be used standalone without your computer. MMC, smart media, and compact flash slots can read media from ANY Camera, and the onboard 2+" screen shows the pictures well. The printer allows a lot of VERY advanced options, including cropping, zooming, making custom borders, etc. The printer also accepts true 4x6 photo paper if you want to make REALLY cool prints.
The software allows the printer to act as a media reader for the cards, but it seems to be fairly slow.
You do need high-end images to start out with, however. This printer, nor any other, can preform magic -- if you give it a 640x480 picture, you shouldn't expect anything more than a 2".

Definately the beast of the prosumers. If you have a 2 megapixel or higher digital camera, GET THIS PRINTER.
If you have a 4 megapixel camera, I don't know how you can live without this baby.

Not enough info 2002-03-27
I had tested the Hp 950 and the Hp 1315 for print quailty. Altough the HP 950 is a multi-task printer it has the same resolution, dpi, and just about the same ppm. I find HP print quailty is far superior in regards to richness of color and most important, the life feel it brings to the picture. The Hp 1315 is at best the number one"photo-smart" printer on the market ,however, the technology which is being used is not discussed and secondly the warranty compared to it's conterparts leaves a lot to be desired. One year suggests" I might brake down in 16 months". Hp confidence in this product in regards to their warranty is not good enough.

Easy to use, fantastic results 2002-01-28
I bought this printer after seeing a friends digital photographs printed from the same model. The results are fantastic, as good as any 35mm pictures I have had developed. The true magic of this printer is it does not need to be connected to a computer. A computer phobic could use this printer. I simply put the sony memory stick in the printer and can edit and print the pictures. The printer even arranges the picture on the photogrphic paper before priting which makes it extremely economical with paprer. Used with a computer a USB connection is recommended for equally excellent results.
The other bonus of the printer is the ease of installation and use. I had the printer up and running in minutes and quickly worked out how to print my photograph with out using the manual.

Poor customer support 2002-01-26
I'm very disappointed in Hewlett Packard as a company. My printer arrived missing parts December 24th. I have called HP Tech 3 times and was assured they would send the part right out to me. It's now January 25th and I still haven't received anything. In my opinion there are too many other manufactures who want my business, I don't need to deal with this kind of customer support.

This is a fantastic printer- for all our needs! 2002-01-06
We had an old HP inkjet that was on it's last legs. As we had gotten a 3+ megapixel Sony digital camera recently, we were looking for something that could print photos AND documents, but not be 1000s of dollars.

I looked at the Canon S800 and this printer. I had started out looking at Epson, but had heard from friends and family that they wouldn't recommend one. I'll be honest, the Canon was a VERY close second! But the ability to use our memory stick and the fact that it's compatible with Windows XP was a big selling point for us.

I needed a photo for a 12 month calendar (present) and we put in the memory stick in and printed the photo ASAP on our coffee table as we hadn't even hooked it up to our computer. It worked wonderful- you would just have to be careful not to scratch the surface. In setting up with the computer, it took about 15 minutes and my husband said "USB is the way to go." All in all, it was the downloading of software that took the most time, but it was easy.

I highly recommend this printer and have told my family and friends about it. Yes, it's pricey, but if you can afford it, it's worth it. Also, the documents print great and the colors on the photos are true to form.
