Kidde Fire Escape

I was disappointed when the fire escape arrived because it is a "use only once" item and it didn't say that on the disciption. I bought it to practise on, and if I activate it to do so, I won't be able to close it up again for another time or storage.

One time use?

This ladder cost nearly $40 and it says on the box that you can only use it one time. Why doesn't it say that on anything when you're ordering it? Hopefully, we'll never have to use it at all but I'm sure I won't be throwing it away if we do. You should be able to use it more than once. It's not accurately advertised. We never would have spent $40 on something we can only use once. Not acceptable. As far as the rating goes, I rated it the lowest because of the mis-leading advertising, hopefully if we ever have to escape our house through a window... we'll be thrilled with the ladder. I won't buy another one from this company.

Be sure to open the box before an emergency!

We already own one of these Kidde ladders, and I just bought a second one for another bedroom. I almost put the whole box in the closet without opening it, since I know how the other ladder works. But luckily I opened the box anyway, just to check it out. The interior packaging has changed - there is so much plastic wrapping and cardboard packaging taped around the ladder that there's no way you could deploy it in an emergency. So be sure to open the box and remove all the packaging before putting the ladder away.

It seems great, except it is a "one time use only" so we can't test it out, because it says it may break or hurt someone after the first use. But I feel better knowing we have an alternative if there were a fire. That's what is important.

I haven't had to use this yet, ( Thank God ) but I'm sure it works great if I would ever need it. It's a safety precaution and I feel better having it

Buy the original, not the rip-off

After I purchased this item, I found out that Kidde ripped off the design for this product(down to the picture of mom and pop on the packaging) from a mom and pop company named "X-IT" and so I have returned it.

X-IT sued and won damages from Kidde, but apparently the judgment did not include any method of restraining Kidde from continuing to sell their rip-off design.

I was expecting to receive an emergency ladder that I could use out of a bed-room window and that is what this product is. I did find it a little strange that the instructions say "one-time use only". I'm not sure if that's a sales gimick, a safety issue (since the fire could damage the ladder) or if it's a durability matter. The ladder does seem quite solid and is well priced.

Good price, small size, necessary item for 2-story home; disappointed 1-time use though

The price for this was great and the size is small so fits easily under a bed or something. This is an absolute must for our family in a 2-story home. I was disappointed to see it quotes a 1-time use but I hope I don't have to ever use it so understand.

Haven't tried it out yet and hopefully will never need to but seems easy to use. I feel safer knowing that we have it.
