Parents, you won't regret this mag 2008-01-29
I personally think this magazine is great. I'm almost 14 and this magazine really helps me with a lot of problems I'm having because, well, I'm growing up. It may contain a few TEEN ONLY articles, but its helpful to us because we really are going through it! Parents think that sheilding their children's eyes from the world will make them stay sweet and innocent forever, but they are going to grow up whether you want them to or not, so why not buy your teenage girl this magazine to help them through the inevitable? It actually inspired me to ask my mom about things like puberty, and all teens need to know about this stuff. It contains some really useful advice, and while it may contain a LOT about boys, girls like them whether they read this or not, and this can be very helpful. I'd definetly recommend this to teens, and parents, I promise you won't regret this magazine.

It's a Girls Life 2007-07-27
I just reached the end of my subscription to this magazine. It was pretty good. With tips about boys,hair,make-up,school,best friends...all that teen fluff. I'm fourteen and I do agree with some other reviwers that this magazine has become explicit. Although they mentioned it as inapropriate,I don't think it's too bad. But just theres lots of talk about sex, sexual orientation, and even masturbation. Even though this may sound really bad,I'd still recommend it.(Only if your daughter is at least 12 and knows about all mentioned)After all, it's nothing you won't find in J-14.

Best Teen Girl Magazine Out There 2007-07-13
I picked up this magazine at the airport just so I could read something while I was waiting. But I couldn't put it down. Unlike ComsoGirl, this magazine has nothing inappropriate, and can help with a girl's personal issues. Also, the magazine's site is amazine, with moderated boards that people can ask questions about their most personal issues and not be demeaned. I will definetly keep my subscription for a long long time.

times are a changin' 2007-05-12
Thinking back i only have fond memories of when i spent my summers laying on the lawn in my backyard reading this magazine when i was 11-12. I'm 21 now and one night when i had to baby sit my 10 yr old cousin she had this magazine. I hadn't read a girls life mag since i was 13, so i flipped through it and was surprised at the change in content. Instead of having real girls on the cover its all these prettied up disney stars, and about how to look hot at a party, how to get a boyfriend , etc. What happened the days when it was about the top ten movies for a sleepover, or how to have a fun filled summer, or reviews on the latest toys, hair and beauty products, books or gadgets. I'm sure they still have some that, and even though I can't put all the blame on the mag, they could just be reflecting and following the changing times. But still...

GL rocks! 2007-04-04
now that I'm 14, I have officialy grown out of Discovery girls, (I used to worship the magazine from ages 12-13) but when I got my April/may issue I felt like I was reading some 10 yr old magazine, they had little kid stuff in there, and not one 14 yr old wrote anything in the magazine, I felt like I had grown out of it, because usually, I would read it from front to back, this time, I read the Discovery Girls magazine from page 1- 4, so, I told my Friend about it, and she lent me an issue OF GL {the december/january 2006 issue) and I adored it! I loved the whole thing, and now, I'm getting a subcription! because I love GL, it has great articals, and has an awesome advice collum! It roks!

Buy the magazine, It's so worth it!

This mag is ok for 16 and up 2008-04-12
I have subscribed to this magazine before and I believe it should be for girls ages 15-17 because of the real life stuff in it.

clothesed-minded 2008-02-19
Out of curiosity I wanted to see what was available for our youth.

I was compelled to say how dissapointed I am at the segregated racist world we live in.

Each cover shows a white, blond girl. They're pretty and covered in make-up. What is it this magazine is trying to convey?

The United States is a multi-cultural country of beautiful girls from various ethnicities.

Let us foster that beautiful unity in diversity & continue to inculcate this into our girls that beauty on the inside certainly makes one even more beautiful on the outside.

Not approrpriate for 9-14 year old girls 2008-02-15
I've just cancelled my 12 year old daughter's subscription. Their marketing materials state this is an appropriate magazine for young girls ages 9-14, yet a recent issue had a large feature article on teenage pregnancy as well as articles on the cast of Gossip Girl. Have you seen this show? My daughter certainly hasn't as it deals with high schoolers having sexual relationships with multiple partners, underage drinking, 14 year olds in night clubs, suicide, drugs...

Good for teens 2008-02-12
I got this magazine 3 years ago for my daughter when she was 10 but found that it was inappropriate for her at that age. Now that she is 13 and in middle school it is time for this magazine. I don't think that kids need to date or have boyfriend/girlfriend relationships but they do have to learn to get along with the opposite sex. My daughter and I often read this magazine together and we discuss topics. It's a great way to open the door with your daughter and enjoy some time with her.
They need parents to talk to them about what goes on at school- don't kid yourself, they hear this stuff and more. I have homeschooled my 4 children through 6th grade and on- my daughter is in the 7th grade and taking 2 classes at the local school.
I don't want to close my children off from the world but want to guide them.
This magazine is good for girls in 7th grade on. I wouldn't suggest it for any younger. It is definitely for older girls as well. I don't like that they say it's only for girls up until 12 or 15 I think.

Not for tweens 2008-02-09
I am a Girl Scout leader with a now 11-year-old daughter. When the annual magazine sale came around last year, GL was listed as "the only magazine for Girl Scouts", ages 10-15. When the first issue arrived, I flipped through it and was very disappointed with what I saw. Articles & letters about teen pregnancy, being sexually active, Dad/Mom is having an affair--the list goes on. If it was just one article I would have ripped the pages out, but that wasn't the case. My opinion is that this magazine is completely inappropriate for any pre-teen, and depending on your own daughter, 14 or 15 may still be the wrong age group. I recommend getting an issue from the library first and doing your own review -- wish I had done so and saved some money.
