So far so good...but 2003-06-10
I bought this refurbished and have been pretty happy with it. It is my first PDA. But I have had a couple of problems - the flimsy cover which keeps coming off...and then this mysterious backlight which everyone keeps talking about. Where is this backlight? I have not been able to find it in any manual. The only thing I know is you can adjust the contrast but that's it. Thanks!

Does what I need it to do 2002-11-22
The backlighting could be better and if I had to do it again I'd probably buy a color PDA. But overall, I've been pleased with the T415. It does everything I want, it's thin and lightweight, takes a beating (can't tell you how many times I've dropped the thing), and the battery lasts FOREVER. I use it every day and I charge the battery *maybe* once a month.

Sony T415 2002-10-21
I bought this as my first PDA. Its very thin and handles nice in your hand. I dont like the backlight, if I had it to do again I would buy a color one with better color and light

I HAD a Palm M125 BUT.... 2002-06-19
I bought a T415 after three palm M125s that self destructed within the first 30 days of owning them. They failed without being dropped or having any damage at all. They stopped recognizing graffitti, crashed, locked up, or just wouldn't stay on.
I gave up and bought the Sony Clie T415. What a difference! It seems faster, and I can't say I agree with any of the complaints (except maybe the cover popping out the memory stick) I hear.
Unfortunately, Sony seems to be discontinuing the T415, and now that I DID drop the thing, I can't get a replacement from the point of purchase!
I would buy another one in a heartbeat, though, if i could.

slim pda 2002-06-16
I really like this product. I don't know how I survived without a PDA. This one is slim, light and has everything I needed. Easy to use, holds a charge for a long time. I getting one for my husband now.

Vastly disappointed 2002-05-09

almost perfect, screen is dim 2002-04-22
great value for the bundled software, high quality finish, and high resolution screen vs Palm products. the screen is dim in certain light conditions but not enough to be a problem. very functional backlight & high rez screen make up for it. also, the leather/nylon flap it comes with is annoying - clie keeps turning on when you put in your pocket.

The lightest PDA with minor flaws 2002-04-10
This is a wonder hand-held, because one wonders how one PDA can have truly amazing features and yet have a set of very bad ones. Let us start with amazing ones: this is the thinnest and lightest Palm PDA on Earth that is a pleasure to hold in a hand. The screen is the state of art with its low reflection and amazing resolution (the highest resolution you have ever seen on any PDA or in fact on any computer screen) so that text fonts look like from a journal cover. With its Jog-dial, back button and memory stick expansion slot PEG-T415 could have been in the PDA Hall of Fame and the best PDA for under [$$$]. However, do not get too excited until you learn about its flaws:
The screen has low contrast, which makes it hard to read in dim light, in fact the brighter the light the better it looks (Color T615 has the same high resolution but easy to read in all lights.)
The flip cover with its rugged "outdoor" style appearance is so disastrous that one wonders if it is the product of malicious engineering. The cover can easily kick a Memory Stick out of its slot leaving you wondering where you lost this expensive stick. If this is not enough, when closed the cover manages to press on application buttons leaving you wondering why your batteries are drained.
Highly hyped back button could indeed have been a marvel if it would function as "back button", that is taking you back where you were before. No, SONY decided that "back" has only one meaning - "your application/home screen", making it useless repetition of "application button". Third, SONY miniaturized the standard five buttons that all Palms have to tiny thin switches leaving you wondering where is a toothpick to operate them (the worst is up/down button which is most frequently used and which SONY decided to make the smallest... how convenient).
Oh, if you still want to buy it here is good hint: on ebay you can purchase a hotsync USB cable that is cheaper than SONY's and unlike SONY's can recharge & sink at the SAME time (no need for AC adapter!).

tested by a mac user 2002-04-04
Like many in this thread, I spent a long time researching the purchase of my first handheld. I was attracted to the Clie T415's high resolution screen, speed, and expandability. My first and foremost concern was the ability to sync the Clie with my Mac. All the same, the "missing sync" software that I bought made the transition quite simple.

Besides its functionality, the Clie 415 is beautiful, thin, light, and the jog-dial makes it a complete package.

The questions about the screen legibility are over-rated. Like any B&W lcd display, it has its shortcomings, but it's no reason to hesitate. In addition, I don't have any trouble with the Clie turning on when I don't want it to. The cover provided in the package has been sufficient protection from this happening.

Works great, less filling. 2002-04-03
I moved to the PEG-T415 from Palm 7...this was the best unit I could find after hours of research. Sony's 24/7 support was excellent: once for helping me transfer all my existing data, once for correcting a USB problem. The screen is dim, but the long-living rechargable battery lets you use backlighting any time you wish. I like the resolution enhancement. Tiny form factor and aluminum chassis are doubleplusgood.
