2002-12-21The graphics are great, and the music is a lot of fun. The game is not as mindless as people might think, and there is a strategy that can help determine if you win or lose. I have found myself playing 2 or 3 games a day. It is nice how it keeps score of how fast you solved the game, so you can compare your times with other people. This is a great game for people like that like the simple solitare games, and can play in small 10 minute bursts of time in a busy schedule.
No Response From Global Star ever!

I LOVED the original Moraff's Maximum Mahjongg. In fact I loved it so much I recommended it to anyone and everyone!! When this one came out I bought it thinking this would be great. Well I was incredibly disappointed. The game would not work on my system, no matter what I tried. I uninstalled and reinstalled it. I even exchanged it, thinking maybe it was the cd-rom that was not working. I could only get into one game. I could never get into any of the options, tile selections, etc. So I went to the Global Star's website to see if there were any patches available. No patches, but there was a contact support form. I filled out the form and got an error message that the form didn't function. So I wrote an email to the email addy listed and never got a response. I wrote them a couple of times and still no response. So basically I have a ... coaster.
The best I've seen...

I got hooked on solitaire Mahjongg and have tried about five different PC versions. This, by far, is the best. The tile sets are fantastic, looking like actual Chinese tiles. The games play full screen so your eyes aren't straining. Best of all, there are so many variations, backgrounds, layouts and sets to choose from it's hard to tire of the game. There is even a feature that makes it possible to solve each tile set, so you can skip the shuffle feature if you're inclined. Still,I wind up playing the original game the most.
I also got a kick out of the feature that allows you to create your own tile sets with photos. It took me a couple of tries, but once I got it down, it was easy and fun.
The only drawbacks I found: Each game starts with an enormous cursor, which annoys me, but once you set your preferences you don't have to deal with that. And the game remembers preferences, so you don't constantly have to reset. I also have the music switched off, but that's just me. Also, I wish such other Mahjongg tile games as Gravity Tiles and Concentration were featured, but they're not. Try the Hoyle's disc for excellent versions of those. But for the classic tile matching game, this is the disc to beat. But be warned: It's very addictive.
A fantastic Mahjongg game for users of XP
2002-05-24
I am a big Mahjongg fan, and have purchased a few other titles such as Mahjongg master, etc. This is by far the best. I have had a little trouble with some of the older games on my new XP system, even using the XP "mode" to play older games using a previous version of Windows.
The tiles are large and the symbols are easy to spot. The pointer is extremely large, so you can concentrate on the game itself instead of squinting and trying to read small symbols. It runs extremely fast on my system. There are options to change the tileset graphics and the bacground. Nothing too incredibly fancy, just simple and fun. Soothing music options too. If you are looking for a great Mahjongg game, look no further!
