Delightful period film
2008-04-07
This movie has a special feel to it that is different to your average sci-fi film, helped by the period setting. Simplistic but highly enjoyable.
Great DVD!

Destination Moon Review

Movie is "just ok"; not what I remembered. Price and service were great. I'd buy from them again.
Delightfully cheesy

It looks pretty dated, with crouched-over guys in bug suits, a cheerfully dotty amateur scientist, and the obligatory saveable babe. Oh, and that little moon-ship had eating facilities, but not a lot for dealing with the inhabitants' other needs of nature.
We don't see them until way past the half-way point, but Harryhausen's wonderful stop-animation makes this memorable. That includes a dancing skeleton, a whale-sized caterpillar, and a few other goodies. The ending shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who's seen War of the Worlds - I haven't read the book in decades, though, so I can't say how closely this tracks Wells's original.
No matter, it's a popcorn movie. Wait for a rainy Saturday and run the flicks - the popcorn will taste just as good either way.

40 year old, ready to watch some old movies from my childhood

H.G. Wells' fantastic account of life on the moon is vividly brought to the screen by special effects master Ray Harryhausen in this amazing sci-fi epic featuring unforgettable extra-terrestrial creatures. The film begins with a team of United Nations astronauts planning an upcoming moon mission. The astronauts are both confused and intrigued by a man (Judd) who claims he, his fiancee and a scientist journeyed to the moon 65 years ago and were attacked by "Selenites," grotesque, human-like ant forms that live in immense crystal caverns. Now it is up to the U.N. team to attempt a lunar landing that could be more horrifying than ever believed possible.
fun adventure

I sure found it interesting to see an alternative history of what space travel in the past could have been like. In general, it made for a very fun and interesting movie. The characters were humorous and the special effects were great. For the lover of classic sci-fi and adventure, this one is a must-see.
A bit dated
2007-03-11
Although there is some merit in this film it cannot be considered a classic sci-fi film- it would take away from the real value of he true sci-fi ones. The plot is about the very first expedition to the Moon around the turn of the 20th century. Some of the scenes are a bit comical- but that is not entirely a bad thing as it lightens the film and makes it more enjoyble for kids to watch. It is a bit dated but one should also consider the time that it was produced.
All in all a good family film that your kids will enjoy.
TERRIFIC AND COOL MOVIE!!!

This movie is awesome!!! Not only is it awesome, but the Selenites are cool. :) It has an excellent plot and animation (by Ray Harryhausen) and the scenes are cool. The Selenites are really cool. This is a must-have for all sci-fi fans! Even though it came out in 1964, I still watch it! This is an excellent made movie and I strongly reccomend it! :D
Classic Sci-Fi fun

I watched this movie years ago and was pleased when it finally came out on DVD. I'm a huge fan of Ray Harryhausen, the master of stop action filmaking, and this is one of his best. Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy the first Earthlings to visit the Moon.
