Great Sound, NOT BUILT TO LAST
2008-09-30
I loved these speakers for nearly 3 years. Then the DIN cable that goes from the control pod (right speaker with controls) to the subwoofer stopped working. Search the internet; it's a common problem after you've had them for a while. And it's hardwired and can't be replaced without cutting and soldering. Don't buy these if you want them to work for more than a few years.
Very impressive and highly recommended.

I bought these for my office a year ago. I like them so much that I just ordered a second set for my home PC.
I'm a longtime fan of Klipsch, and they still exceeded my expectations. They don't just sound great compared to the crappy speakers that you get for free with a new computer-- they sound great, period. I've heard many home stereos that aren't as good. I listen to all kinds of music, and these speakers do a great job of handling anything I can throw at them.
I notice that a lot of reviews have complaints about the power switch being inconveniently located on the subwoofer. This is true, but there's really no need to shut them off during normal use. They don't draw any significant amount of power when they're not being used, and it won't hurt anything to leave them on. Mine have never been shut off in the year I've had them.
My only complaint is that the speaker wires use chintzy 1/8" headphone-style connectors, which don't make the best contact. Occasionally one of the speakers will sound quiet and distorted, so I have to twist the plug back and forth to restore the connection. It's not a big deal, but it's odd considering everything else is so well designed.

Klipsh vs. Logitech
2008-08-02
Klipsh Promedia 2.1 offers the best audio quality in its price category. I have tested it against Logitech Z-2300 and in the end decided to go with Klipsh due to its far superior sound quality while playing cds.
However, Logitech is worth its price times over. I liked its sound while playing streaming audio files (56 Kb) - internet radio, youtube, e.t.c. For compressed files Logitech with wider musical spectrum seems (or sounds) to be a better choice than more directional Klipsh. I did have hard time deciding between the two while playing DVDs, Klipsh offers more detailed and clearer sound but seemed somehow less dimensional than Logitech. With Klipsh the dialog seemed to be coming from the bottom of the screen, where Logitech more accurately matched the picture.
The thing that won me over to keep the almost twice expensive (must include extended warranty due to its notorious subwoofer problems) Klipsh was its unbeatable dominance with quality music. Logitech with its rather poor midrange was no competition. Playing CDs with Klipsh was a pure joy. The sound is very clear and warm, especially the vocals that sounded quite bland with Logitech just shined on Klipsh.
So the final conclusion. I don't think it's right to say one is better than the other - both carry exceptional value and leave its competition in the dust. Considering the price difference I would recommend Logitech to anyone with preference for mp3, streamed audio or video. However, if you keep popping CDs into your system, Klipsh is the only way to go.
Not The Best Of Speakers (or LOUD)
2008-07-26
Not the best of spearkers if you're looking for a LOUD system. I was looking for a 2.1 system to replace my reliable altec lansing speakers which were fairly loud. The sattelites are loud enough on the highs, mids are OK and will require some tuning to sound just right, the sub on the other hand...... The box port design is tuned for low notes. The type that you barely hear, so turning up on the sub volume quickly distorts the bass. The bass does travel around though (low bass) but there is no excitment (high-low bass), it's not LOUD (especially compared to the volume that can be achieved from the sats). If you want a LOUD system, stay clear!!! For a GOOD sound system it's OK.
Nice Sound

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker System (Black) These speakers are just right for my needs. I use them mainly listening to XMradio on my computer. They sound great and you only have three speakers to fool with. I did not want a lot of speaker running all over the room and I don't notice a lot of difference from my six speaker system.
Well WORTH the MONEY!
