The CLIE PEG-NR70V handheld is the ultimate in handheld convergence. Take pictures with the built-in digital camera (100, 000 effective pixels), listen to MP3 files (headphones and remote controller supplied), display videos and images, plus keep your date book and contact list organized - all in one stylish unit. The unique swivel LCD design lets you choose your preferred method of text entry - use the stylus to enter data directly on the screen, or flip and rotate the screen (180 degrees) for access to the built-in QWERTY keyboard.

Great product UNTIL...... 2004-01-06
Great product UNTIL the serial number wore off the back of the sticker on back of pda and I needed it. I was loyal to Palm until I saw the Sony Clie NR70v. Love the screen. Used mostly for my constantly updated address book. Soon after the warranty expired, I could no longer hot-sync.
Sony said, for a fee, the cradle was damaged. I had unfortunately purchased Circuit City's extended warranty. I waited nearly an hour twice to talk with someone at the extended warranty company who spoke extremely hard-to-understand English. They wanted the serial number. It is on the back of the clie on a sticker, but it had worn off and couldn't be read. C City didn't have my serial number in their computer. I threw away the box. DON'T THROW AWAY THE BOX or at the very least, SAVE THE SERIAL NUMBER where you can find it. The extended warranty company would not honor the warranty. Eventually, after I had to make a fuss, I found someone at C City who said he'd swap the cradle if I brought in the damaged one.
The Clie is heavy with camera inside, but I love the swivel stand feature. I've propped it up many times while looking at addresses to write. Someday I'll learn how to use an MP3 player. I'm now interested in the Garmin iQue 3600 palm compatible with built in GPS. No swivel, though. If Sony made a pda with gps with tech support (Garmin doesn't have it) and a Sprint phone inside, I'd buy it in a minute..without the extended warranty. By the time it breaks, I want the updated models anyway. They're always improving!

Multi PDA Owner 2003-10-10
I own both a plam and pocket PC based PDA. For those who are trying to decide which is better, I hope this is somewhat helpful.

Sony NR70V Pros & Cons
- The screen quality is much better than a pocketpc based handheld, but I have to admit that I was surprised that the battery life of both are about equal. It used to be that plam battery life was much longer. That is not so with this Sony.
- For those who are looking for basic easy-to-use, palm is the way to go. If you want more capabilities, then pocketpc is better. I was really disappointed that when I purchased the sony that the software included only included a trial version of the presentation software (particularly for this much money). The pocketpc had the excel, word, powerpoint as standard.
- The memory is too limited. I spend over half my time trying to clear up space on the memory. Not all programs work on the memory stick. I am not sure why this is?!?!? My pocketpc has a lot more space to move files.
- The sound quality on the sony is much better than my pocketpc. However, the Sony Sonic stage is very intrusive and doesn't work with the more inexpensive sony memory sticks. I found this out too late, of course. Pocketpc I can play wma and mp3. This gives me a better ability to save space. The sony "check out" system is insulting. I am not sure why sony treats all Sony handheld owners as potential music downloading criminals. I own all my own CD's.
- There is a lot more software for the plam than the pocketpc. However, not all of the software will work on the Sony. In particular, I was looking for a better music player, but because of the Sony propriatary software, none of it is compatible. Still, some of the palm handhelds I dealt with sounded pretty good.
- The sony is far superior when it comes to the quality of photos and software to support it. However, this is my least used feature.
- It is a big advantage to have the keyboard included. I don't enjoy trying to hook-up my pocketpc with the fold out keyboard. Too much bulk.
- For work, I am forced to use my pocketPC. For personal and fun, I use my sony. I am not willing to buy third-party software for a 500 dollar PDA to look at work files.
- Sony memory sticks cost much more than SD/MMC and CompactFlash cards. WHY?
- Overall very disappointed.

If you decide to get a Sony and are a heavy user of your PDA, get one with more than 16MB. Remember that the some software will not work off the memroy stick, regardless of what sony says. If you are only using your PDA for personal and recreational needs, Sony is okay. If you want a PDA to also listen to music, look at the other palm handhelds that support multiple files, not just the MP3 or propriatary software sony forces you to use. For the basics and for photos, then this Sony will work for you.

Good luck.

warning! 2003-02-18
After owning 3 Palms and one Pocket PC (... I kept dropping them), I bought but deeply regret buying a Clie. If you are a heavy user of "tasks" as I am, Clie's performance is so bad the PDA is unusable. When one makes any change in the task (...change date to "tomorrow"), there is about a 5 second delay. For all the Palms this was instantaneous. Change "priority"... same thing. Etc. This renders the Clie unusable.
I will not complain about the fact the machine just flat stopped working after a month of use because I sent it in and they fixed it for free and quickly. I pointed out the above problem but they did nothing.
This really disappointed me as I had previously thought well of Sony.

Spectacular!!!! 2003-01-18
Simply perfect, I changed my old palm for this and have it all, plus very good price against others similar to this one

Nice Unit, but save your money tand get the next upgrade 2003-01-02
Depending on what you use your Sony CLIE PEG-NR70V Handheld
by Sony for, I would wait and save up for the Sony CLIE PEG-Nx70V.

Sony CLIE PEG-NR70V Handheld 2007-03-10
Works well enough If you want it just for your day to day activities.
I have had to reset it like a million times. Good thing is it does n ot lose your data whet you reset.
The camera is a sham and never works at all.
Nice media player though.
You can not sync it on any other palm OS even those that run The same OS.
I am looking to excnange it off or sell it off.

This PDA Is Excellent 2004-06-01
I just bought this PDA and it is everything I could hope for. Sony struck a pot of gold with this one. Get a memory card (128 mb maybe) and you have enough memory for thousands of applications. I had trouble with Sonic Stage, but I am assuming I can figure it out. The camera works great. The keyboard is not good with numbers, but you can use the on screen one for that. If you have any further questions e-mail me at ryanj0@belleville.k12.wi.us

Super PDA for the Price 2004-04-14
My wife bought this for me and I love it! The previous PDAs I have owned were not nearly as high tech. I certainly could not say more about the wonderful camera features than the other reviewer. As for all the other features all I can say is they work great. I have had mine about six months now and I have used them all and I have not had any problems. I mainly use it for my DVD and CD databases and games, but all the capabilities are amazing. I also highly recommend getting the Belkin USB Sync/Charge cable. It sure beats using a Sync/Charge Cradle since it is easy to carry anywhere.

Ahead of its time..... 2004-04-06
Back when this Clie came out, it was the first with integrated keyboard and a built-in digital camera. Two years later, it is still ahead of many handheld devices! One neat feature: remote controller! MP3 player is another nice feature, so check out the used Clie's.

Reply to Great PDA, but..... 2004-02-05
I am actually waiting for my unit in the mail. I wanted to point out that Sony has a patch on their website that is supposed to address the memory stick recognition problem.
